Hi sifus, looking for a new laptop to get my tax rebate

1. Preferred Brand : None
2. Budget: <3200
3. Usage: whole day usage, watching movies, travelling, light gaming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: at least 14 inch & at least 900 or 1080 reso

SSD hybrid would be preferred. i'm also very concerned with over heating as my dell xps 15 graphic card burnt out

Thanks in advance
*
SSD hybrid as the laptop has mSATA SSD + SATA HDD, or you want a SSHD?

Need to take care of those thin and light laptop with discrete GPU properly. Make sure the air inlet / outlet is free of dust, and clean the fan and re-apply thermal paste probably every 6 months / 1 year.

14" with HD+ or FHD screen is out of your budget, so you are left with 15". And even at 15", not many is within your budget.
If you also want SSD, then only option, iinm:

Acer
V7-582PG-74508G52k, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD + (1920x1080 IPS; touch)@RM3399[2.2kg], 8GB, W8

If you left out SSD, then can consider these:

Dell
Inspiron 15 7000, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) + (1920x1080; Touch)@RM3599[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8SL, backlit keyboard, 58Whr

HP
Envy Touchsmart 15-J053TX, i7-4702MQ + Nvidia GT750M + (1920x1080;touch)@RM3499[2.56kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8

Lenovo
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3399[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

MSI
GE60-2OC, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM3099,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, steel series KB

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

Are you talking about Vostro 5470?
If yes, go to the "Home" section, not the business section.

Vostro entry level business laptop is discontinued already, replace by Latitude 3000 series.

wow...so much hassle to handle a ultrabook it seems... cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

actually i was also considering an ultrabook too since the Dell 5470 is within budget, but the integrated battery and also the above "bolded and highlighted" statement, it really make me reconsider... shakehead.gif shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

guess i better steer clear and stick with the HP costing RM1999 with GT740M...

or shud i still consider an ultrabook?..with or without discrete gpu?.. hmm.gif hmm.gif hmm.gif

Looking for lightweight laptop for girl

1. No preferred brand but preferred not to be Dell or HP
2. Budget < 2k (with this price is it impossible to get SSD?)
3. Usage: No gaming, only for office work such as word processing, powerpoint
4. screen size < 15 inch as the main criteria is easy to carry around

Thanks in advance!

Get any note book below RM1.7k, get something from Dell IMHO (good warranty support) and buy a 120GB SSD to replace the slow HDD

The CPU speed is considerably lower, how big is the difference between 740m and 750m anyways?

I though you're fine with 4200m ? since your GP 60 is 4200m as well.
for the difference, google up for game benchmark. I do see some difference for some game such as AC4

I think the price is slightly cheaper than mentioned, after all y410 there shown 2899 as well.

Y410 might be a good choice, but a bit heavier, and not sure if i7 is necessary for gaming, but produce excess heat but not getting the benefit of i7

But it seems to be the cheaper of the two, coming with 750m and i7, albeit having a smaller screen and no fancy steelseries kb also a slower hard drive.
