QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Dec 4 2013, 11:06 PM) Dell Vostro 5470, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2249, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell HP Pavilion 14-N059TX, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099[2.03kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8; colors: silver/black ASUS K451LB-WX071H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199, 4GB, 750GB, W8 but one thing you might need to concern, thin and lightweight laptops generally traps more heat than conventional laptops, so a good cooling system is out of your requirement if you are planning to choose a laptop which weighs less than 2kg. Thanks for the recommendation. However I suppose those ultrabook style laptop are quite good with cooling due to aluminum body? I have some very bad experience with heating problem which lead to several shutdown and motherboard burnt. Hence I'm quite particular with cooling system.

QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Dec 8 2013, 11:34 PM) Dell Inspiron 14, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM1699 [1.99kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Linux, 6 cell; W8.1SL@RM1899 Vostro 5470, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1899, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell prices are RRP and negotiable. Thanks, However I am wondering that Inspiron 14 obviously has better CPU GPU and battery, yet is cheaper than vostro 5470? What's so good with 5470?Thanks

I saw there are a bunch of laptop having spec of I5-4200U/M with GT 740M..I want to know that out of all that, any of them have SSD/Msata, or light and good battery life or good ventilation? btw I saw most of them coming with 4G ram, can I request the shop to make it 8G? I afraid some laptop might seal up and adding ram yourself will void the warranty. Thanks

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Dec 15 2013, 08:03 PM) The price range for those laptops are RM1.8k to RM2.2K usually, so it's not possible to expect them to have SSD. You can easily buy an SSD and change with the HDD, no biggie here. (caution: Dell Vostro 5470 supposedly is not compatible with SSD) Same goes to RAM, just plug in another ram stick. Voiding warranty? Quite a common misconception. The only way to void warranty if you temper/tear the sticker which says "void if tempered". HDDs and Ram usually do not have such stickers on them. It's usually on the motherboard itself iinm, do correct me if I'm wrong. My only concern on SSD is about the size, 128G is definitely not sufficient, but more than that price will be much higher. I heard Msata offer some help on running smooth and with combination with normal SATA which is sufficient for my item , so I will prefer msata+SATA combo, unless it is possible for me to add SSD and HDD together.. I heard someone mentioned before particularly for Lenovo Z510, the warranty sticker actually placed on the Ram opener ther. Not sure if is true or not. Thanks!

QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Dec 15 2013, 08:23 PM) 256GB Plextor M5S is/was going at ~ RM570. To get to the RAM slot for the Z510, you practically has to tear down the whole laptop already That's gonna away much from budget..haha btw, other than boot time for windows, does SSD makes much diff on launching software and etc? Opps, can I request the dealer to do the installation?

Dear fellow sifus, anyone is using dell inspiron 14R or 15R? How's the cooling system? I am quite satisfied with the spec, cell power and price of it...2.3kg is still acceptable for me, but I need a laptop that can be used without cooling system..Had some hard time with my old lappy that can heat up to 80/90'c Thanks

QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Dec 17 2013, 08:33 AM) Don't understand. All laptop models (except certain tablet / hybrid) has active cooling system (fan and heat sink), can't survive without them. Inspiron 14R and 15R is ok, not good, not bad, just ok. Opps, typo, I mean 'externa' cooling', Any recommendation? With the budget 2.5k, most the spec I found is i5-4200U/M with GT 740M,whille this is the only model I can get with higher spec in the price list. Thanks sifu

QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Dec 17 2013, 03:36 PM) You mean the GT750M right? Inspiron 14R is the cheapest model with GT750M you will find in Malaysia. That's the thing, with that budget most are i5-4200U with GT 740M, only 14R and 15R can give me 4500U with GT750M. I might need it for medium gaming (assn creed, cod in medium setting), and some engineering drawing, i afraid 4200U +740M might not be able to reach my needs

I wana make some comparison,
1) MSI CX61 2OD-078MY – 15.6” / i5-4200M / 4GB / 500GB / GT740M 2GB / W8 : RM2040/- OR Z510, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2399[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs, color: white
2) Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Linux, 65WHr OR MSI GE60 2OC-093MY - 15.6 FHD A.G / i5-4200M / 8GB / 750GB 7200RPM / GT750M 2G / W8 : RM2860/-
Let's say price is not the concern here, provided that the extra money spent is worth.
which one in 1 is better and which one in 2 is better?
My focus in more on the build quality, typing ergonomics, ventilation system, warranty services (JB/S'pore), sound system, design, battery, adding msata(perhaps?)
I notice different in hardisk size, but that's not gonna be my concern
Thanks sifu sifu!

QUOTE(Ladidumdum @ Dec 27 2013, 08:43 PM) The CPU speed is considerably lower, how big is the difference between 740m and 750m anyways? I though you're fine with 4200m ? since your GP 60 is 4200m as well. for the difference, google up for game benchmark. I do see some difference for some game such as AC4

QUOTE(Ladidumdum @ Dec 27 2013, 08:59 PM) Ah, okay thanks But I'm not really willing to top up RM500. I think the price is slightly cheaper than mentioned, after all y410 there shown 2899 as well. Y410 might be a good choice, but a bit heavier, and not sure if i7 is necessary for gaming, but produce excess heat but not getting the benefit of i7
