QUOTE(azarimy @ Aug 15 2008, 12:49 AM)
if u plan to finish of early, might as well just study in some cheap college in malaysia.

nowadays there are too many overseas graduates in malaysia. employers have learned how to choose those from the good universities and put aside the not so good ones. 20 years ago, sure, u can just graduate from any university in the UK or US and everybody would be welcoming u with open arms wink.gif.

my advice: go find a really good uni.
*
but one thing you dont get if you study in malaysia college, compare to some uni oversea even it is a so-so university only, are the attributes some company looking for, survival skills, the openness to different culture and lifestyle and skills learnt from other education system.

well of course, if you are coming UK anyway, opt for a good school, one stones two birds.

Slightly off topic. I'd like to start applying for my Masters now, and start that as soon as my degree ends (degree end, if according to plan, around July/Aug next year).

How easy/hard is it to apply and get scholarship in uk while I'm still in uk?

yea like what others had said above, if you can go to a better Uni and if you can afford it then why not?
smile.gif

I am going to NU because there are only 6 providers outside London offering the course that I want and NU is the best that I can afford.

Easy if you have money but if you are trying to apply a scholarship in UK then it will be very hard. It all depends on what scholarship you are going to apply from. You must understand why should the UK university give a scholarship when you are not a UK citizen? sweat.gif You can still try but is going to be hard to get it. It will be much easier if you can get a scholarship from Malaysia that send you to UK to do your Master degree.

I assume you must have good result since you are trying to apply a scholarship. If not i suggest you not to waste your time at all.

HEY GUYS URGENTLY NEED TO KNOW:

OK, basically I need to know how much is the postage fee for a letter from UK to Malaysia. Probably using regular post. This is because UCL accomodation requires us to buy an international reply coupon and send it together with the accomodation form so that they can reply. However, the posmalaysia branch at my area dont' sell it (do any branches sell it? and how much?), so the people at the post office asked me to buy a bank draft. But I don't know how much should I buy....Please advise. Thanks. Sigh, should be able to do online la, kononnya technological age. pfft.

P.S I know I'm late for the accomodation.

Yea, just papers.. oh RM5+ only? I just went to the post office, for here to send to UK using poslaju, it's RM77....so expensive. But using normal registered post about RM5 also. I think no choice but to use poslaju as this accomodation thing supposed to be sent by 31 MAY if i want to have guranteed place... doh.gif Anyway, Rm77 is nothing la when compared to the tuition fees+living costs if I do study in London later...

Everyone is eligible except you have committed a crime or something.

2)what is my qualification when i apply through UCAS, is it diploma in higher education?
There is no need qualification to apply for UCAS but you will need to include all your result and stuff. Then the University that you apply will tell you what is the requirement that you need to qualify. (I might be wrong since it has been a long time i didnt used UCAS.

1.Everyone is eligible except you have committed a crime or something. This might only lower your chance of getting a visa

2.Not sure if this is called qualification but you will at least passed form 5 i think but for you i m sure you are better than that. There is no need qualification to apply for UCAS but you will need to include all your result and stuff. Then the University that you apply will tell you what is the requirement that you need to qualify. (I might be wrong since it has been a long time i didnt used UCAS.

3.It depends on what subject you study.

Just received my A-Levels results and my place to UK's uni have been confirmed. Will be doing Electronic Engineering (4 years). The question is do I need to have my own laptop for my degree course because during my A-Levels course, I'm so used to handwritten notes for all my subjects.

Thanks in advanced.

not compulsory but advantageous. most assignment/essay has to be done with a computer. not to mention checking email, taking presentation notes posted on the school electronic board etc etc.

though you can also do them at the school computer facilities.

So, what is your recommendation then in your opinion? I know that I can use school's computer facilities but there's restriction and my privacy might get exposed.

I'm not used to typing notes on a PC, especially when it involves writing equations. Prefer handwritten. Fast and flexible.

MMM really funny I replied earlier but didn't seem to stick .

Out of your list , only 1 I consider is Man U . The rest are on a downward spiral.

If you UCL or Imperial is out of your reach then try :

Durham , Bristol , York , Southampton ,ST Andrews , UEA , Bath maybe Sussex etc top 20 up and comers .

Why not get out of UK and try NUS sg and HKU ?

UK fans don't get emotional or flame me , I am only repeating what are facts already printed in UK's own newspapers.

Beware all students and potential students UK :

As fellow Malaysians , we should all try and help our bros to get the best deal possible since UK edu is SO expensive unless there are some who want to hold back info from them , in which case their reasons and motivation for posting is highly suspect

I tell no lies :

http://extras.timesonline.co.uk/gug/gooduniversityguide.php

look at where - university of liverpool, university of manchester, unviersity of sheffield, unviersity of leeds, Cardiff or queens belfast are .

No one in the top 20 .

Anyone wants to know why , can ask me

I went to Pos Laju yesterday.
If PosLaju, arrive in 3 days, RM77. blink.gif rclxms.gif
If registered post, arrive in 10+ days, RM5.40.
If the conventional snailmail, arrive in 10+ days, RM1.50.
The difference between registered post and conventional one is one is signed by the receiver and one is not. biggrin.gif

Yesterday I went to the British Council briefing.

All visa applications must be done online.
Download your application form from www.vfs-uk-my.com
The total application fee is RM664.
You have to complete the application form and make an appointment with the High Commision(if I'm not wrong, located on 19th floor, Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang.
You would need to prepare a white background, passport size photo.
You should allow 5 working days.
You will need unconditional letter of offer from the uni you are going to.
Hope I helped you. Cheers smile.gif
