Hi, I recently just got a job offer from singapore but I have yet receive any offer letter..

However, I spoke to the HR on the phone saying I got the job and will will to apply EP for me..

But the question is 'Is it possible to apply EP without me signing any offer letter?'

I am quite confused here..

EP is with the Ministry of Manpower(MOM) SG....even if you have signed on the offer letter...if your EP/SPass/Work pass is not granted from MOM..its still a NO GO....so your answer to your question is depends...even if the company offers u and u sign...there will be a term/clause to say that if MOM rejects your 'whatever' work permit/pass that offer letter is no longer valid...

OR

the other way to look at it is that the company will give you an offer letter once they have a greenlight from MOM to get u onboard their company..

It's possible. The offer letter serves to protect you more than the employer. If you don't feel safe, just insist you wish to pay a visit to sign the offer letter.

They can help u apply and get the IPA first
once u get the IPA, it's most likely secured
before that, dun make anything drastic
get the IPA from ur future employer first

IPA == In-principle approval by MOM to company, so that the company may go ahead and hire that person stated in the IPA letter

The 70% is for the time & effort required if you had to shop for the ingredients, cook it and wash up afterwards yourself.

The food is not going to shop itself into your fridge and cook itself onto your plate.

It's a trade off each of us has to decide for ourselves. Is the time required for you to shop, cook and wash - worth more or less than the 70% value add you pay to the stall? If your time is less valuable, then do it all yourself by all means. But if you deem your time to be more valuable, then so be it. Eat out.

I would see it as my health is more valuable than anything else money can buy. Strong believer of "you are what you eat", who knows what ingredients they are serving outside.

On weekdays, we probably spent around 2 hours preparing, cooking, eating and dish washing for 2/3 dishes and 1 soup. Money spent roughly about 300 for 2 person per month, 5 days per week. I don't know how much I need to earn to make spending 2 hours to cook more valuable than eating outside. 5 dollar per hour?

Waiting for the chicken soup to be done then have our 30 minutes dinner and 10 minutes to put all the plates in the dish washer and press a button. Those who have time or place to cook should try, its fun and worth it, plus next time the children no need grow up eating McD all the time.

I'm not questioning the choices you've made. I only framed the choices available.

And the point that I wanted to get across is that it's pointless to complain about food prices by basing one's argument on the cost of raw materials alone. That's because selling food in Singapore is as much a service as it is a product. A large consideration becomes how much that service component matters or is of value to you.

ThanatosSwiftfire here is the 2014 fee schedule for NTUC my first skool, among the cheapest
A good comparison for you to see if you/your friend is planning to be a singapore citizen.

Fiona Chin not to mention the occasional fever, cold, cough while they are developing their immune system.

Anyway, a quick repost for Married family with 1 toddler kid (courtesy of ivanswk with some editing, maybe jasonkwk could add on the 1st page)

Basic requirement = $3700.00
3R HDB rental (2 bed room) = $2500 (East) - oh yes we are the sucker who help people pay for their house
Childcare = $700
Household Food & Groceries = $500 (includes occasional weekend eat out)
Utility (Electricity+Water+Cable TV+Fibre) = $200

Not inclusive of
Parents' meal when at work
Parents' transportation cost to work
Weekend outings
Parents' entertainment
SG Car installment (which also need to calculate in insurance, roadtax)
Commitment back in Malaysia

Mine is 500 a month as I'm on a budget and I've defined my kids early years mainly to play and socialize

But perks of a citizen, I only pay 200 a month...

... From my cda account where I put in 6000, the gov matches it... So I can say it costs me $100 a month biggrin.gif

Haha... But it's somewhere a kid socializes. Bound to fall sick anyway

On a positive note I think Msia worse as they are more relaxed when it comes to hfmd. Sg all cases reported to MOH and they do close down centers who do not seem to impose proper measures to control outbreaks

there are pros and cons whether to send your child to a care center or a nanny

care center will provide more interactivity with peers...but the downside is the kid will not have 100% attention from the caregiver (1 caregiver multiple kids) and also higher chances of getting infected with disease (depends on how u look at it, it may be a good thing as it helps to immunize your kid)

nanny looking after the kid will allow the kid to have 100% attention, less disease from infections but the interaction will most likely be bound to the kid and the nanny only since it is 1:1

so it all depends on which 1 the parents prioritize.
i basically grew up in a child care center...was healthy all the way.
