wow, thank you for such a detailed reply. So factoring in all the benefits, MB2K would be better? I've looked around the Internet and most are stating MB2K to be the best choice. But my colleagues however suggest that citibank is better with their promotions and offers, keeping me right at the fence at the moment. Thank you again for your time and insight.

if the place you frequent has more citibank promo then go ahead. for me it is only good for movie and coffee bean thus it is not in my high usage priority card.

Since you are earning less than RM30K currently, you can't qualify yet for the FREE FOR LIFE Maybankard 2 Cards.

Click here to my article The Best Credit Card Combination 2014 where I prepared a table of comparison between cash back cards.

IF you do spend RM500 a month on petrol or groceries or dining (pick 2 out of 3), then the HLB WISE credit card will earn you most in cash back BUT only the first year annual fee is waived.

For petrol, if you pump less than RM300, then the UOB may be good for you where you can earn 5% cash back or MAXIMUM cash back of RM15/month. And if you can pump at BHP, you get extra 2% $MARTCASH. First year is FREE, subsequent years they do have auto annual fee waiver if you swipe 60 times a year (which works out to be 5 times a month). But you can request for annual fee waiver and the chance of getting it pretty good.

Now, since you are only earning about RM2K/month, I strongly suggest you do not give your mum a supp card or to anyone because if they were to max out your credit limit, you may be in debt and it is not good for a young person. I am not implying that your mum will max out your credit card, it may be she lost her supp card and someone go charge the card and she failed to inform you in time and the bank will say you are liable for the charges, better to be safe than sorry, i.e. be kiasu.

Since you new to credit card, click here to my Tutorial Page and read my article especially CC101 and Credit Card Interest Rates.

Once your annual income touches RM30K, go apply for the FREE FOR LIFE Maybankard 2 Cards.

Hey Bro, if I only got two choice left between Alliance Platinum or Citibank Platinum (not the Rewards Platinum), which one do you think I should have? I know both have Enrich miles conversion program and allows me to use the airport lounge in KLIA. hmm.gif

You want the card for what? If airport lounge only -

Alliance Bank annual fee auto waived with 12 swipes.

Citi Plat you got to be like me where I need to beg for annual fee waiver.

For cash back, sure Alliance better, earn evergreen points too.

However, Citibank do have discounts at more merchants vs Alliance. Check out my facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/GenXGenYGenZ, post January 12, buta buta I saved 10% because I have the Citibank Platinum.

For Enrich Miles conversion, in my article New Toshiba i5 for RM999 with Maybankard On The Spor Redemtion and Enrich Miles Redemption., I show you a case there is no difference in value converting Treats Points to Enrich Miles to redeem Economy Class ticket versus Cash Vouchers. And that's with Maybankard 2 AMEX superb conversion rate to Enrich.

So if you ask me, if you do spend a lot at places where you can get 5X reward with the Citibank Platinum, then you should go and calculate/compared the "effective cash back", i.e. worth of Malaysia Airline Raw Fare from Citibank vs Alliance Plat Effective Cash back (based on your monthly spending) and see which gives you better value.

Hi all the experts here, would need some advice and recommendation for most suitable CC.

1. Annual Income: 30K (just worked for 4 months)

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Waive-able

3. Card required for: Dining, Shopping, Movies and Groceries

4. Existing credit cards if any: None

5. Looking at CC from: Citibank/ CIMB/ Maybank

Checked through the threads here and noticed that CIMB DA is the most suitable for fresh grad. Could I apply at Sunway Pyramid's branch? Use to go there quite frequently.

Has applied for Citibank Clear Visa since 6 Jan (love to watch movie, so go for that card), called CS today to check on status and she told me that my application is still in processing, not found in the system. I rmb agent said about 2 weeks, maybe there's too much of public holiday rclxub.gif oh well, seems like might got rejected.

Firstly, soon all Direct Access cards will be converted to CIMB cards.

The Clear Card is good for movies. If your application is still not shown in the system next week. Go apply online directly via Citibank website. But please be aware, the Clear Card FREE Movie Benefit is really good if you go to the movies every week with a partner but many have reported it is tough for the annual fee to be waived for subsequent years. So, if you really go to the movies every week, the savings you get is much more than the annual fee and you would be more than happy to pay it. But if you go to the movies once a month, then different story, no point getting the card. And Citibank do have many promos for shopping and dining but that is to entice you to spend more.

For general usage and on weekends, the Maybankard 2 Gold card is really good for spending up to RM1000/month. The MBB2 Amex earns you 5% cash back every Saturday and Sunday plus 5X UNLIMITED Treats Points everyday. The 5X TP itself is already very good. It works out to be 2% cash back based on 12,500 TP = RM50 cash voucher.

Click here to read my article The Best Cash Back Credit Cards Combination 2014.

ronnie did an excellent job compiling places that accepts AMEX, click here to see where AMEX cards are welcome.

If you decide you want to get the MBB 2 Cards, click here to Maybankard 2 Cards Thread, and read at least the first 2 pages and most of the answers to your questions will be answered.
