the most suitable cc for you is mbb2amex (5% cash back but only on weekends transactions): https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2989298

1. Annual Income: 50K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Must Have

3. Card required for: One off insurance premium every year

4. Existing credit cards if any: None

5. Looking at CC from: Any

Looking for CC that offer good cash back for paying insurance. I can switch my insurance to auto-debit monthly to achieve at least 12 swipes a year if that is required to waive the annual fee.

Thanks in advance sifus notworthy.gif

1. How much is your insurance premium annually?

2. If you switch to monthly payment, usually there is a slight increase in your premium, do you know how may percent.

Above info important. Say your insurance premium is RM5K/year. Currently the AEON Watami offer 3% cash back if one spends more than RM3K per quarter and the cash back is capped at RM150. Therefore with RM5K insurance premium you get only RM150 in cash back. Less RM50 GST, your effective csah back is RM100 per year.

If your insurance premium is less than RM3K one off, the AEON Watami card is not good. Other cards offer 1% to 2% cash back. RM3K x 2% = RM60, less RM50 GST you earn RM10!!! What's the point?

So please give info on item 1 and 2.

Bro, click here to read my article The Best Cash Back Credit Cards Combination where I I prepared a table for RM1K spending comparing Maybankard 2 Cards versus Hong Leong Bank WISE Visa, AEON Watami vs OCBC Titanium MasterCard and MACH by HLB.

Based on the table, go key in your own expenses and work out which is best for you.

I see. But what about those reward point and such. MB2K has 3 years expiry date, but Citibank has lifetime reward points. And is AMEX widely acceptable? Kinda just started working a year ago so only started to have money to spend a little.

yes, 1 is definitely a must-have cc for you.
but the 5% is only for weekends transactions.
for 2, the annual fee need to call and waive.
and not 100% will success waiving it.

or if you don't mind lower cash back, you can go for ocbc titanium cc.
1% on everything and everyday including petrol.

My experience with Amex so far can say 80% of the merchant in klang valley accept it, especially bigger outlets in shopping malls.

Correct M2K has 3 years expiry but with 5X reward it is still very good. Citibank only certain promo you get more else just the pathetic 1 point for every RM1 spent.

I have both M2K and Clear Card, M2K Amex is my main card and i will cut off clear card soon after 1 year+ of owning.

Click here to read my article, The Best Cash Back Credit Cards Combination. See my example on Hong Leong Bank Wise if you do spend like RM500 a month, not necessary on petrol. Else get Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX if you can pump on weekends. Other cards waste of time for petrol especially Citibank Cash Back where the cash back is based on RM50.

Bro, all rounder for less than RM1K spending a month, definitely Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX.

Once again - click here to read my article, The Best Cash Back Credit Cards Combination where I prepared a table comparing cash back from different cards. This article will also show you the best card combination for up to RM7K spending a month.

Now, as for airmiles, how much you spend a year and where you want to fly to? For Entry Level and Platinum cards and local spending, the Maybankard 2 AMEX conversion of Reward Points to Enrich Miles is one of the best around (actually the best). If you want to redeem Economy Class ticket by converting your reward points to Enrich Miles, most of the time you will find that you get the same value as if you were to redeem for cash vouchers. If you want to fly Business Class, then it is a different story altogether.

If you really want Air Miles, click on the links below and read them in the following order:

New Toshiba i5 for RM999 with Maybankard On The Spor Redemtion and Enrich Miles Redemption. In this article I show you a case there is no difference in value converting Treats Points to Enrich Miles versus Cash Vouchers. Please also note that when I published this article, we only needed 10,000 TP or less to redeem RM50 cash voucher. Now we need 12,500 TP for RM50 voucher.

My Son Is Going To The USA Again on Business Class. Converting Treats Points to Enrich Miles and then redeeming for Business Class will give you the best returns, i.e. cash back equivalent up to xx%.

Enrich Miles Sale Is Fantastic for Visa Infinite with 5X Reward Points.

Hi Sir,

I should put Airmiles as "Seldom" as well when seek for recommendation.

I only travel overseas about two or three times year....Mostly travel domestically for work.

However, from this website www.imoney.my/credit-card i saw Maybank 2 Platinum/Gold are top in the list. It should be highly recommended for an all rounder card.

Your blog is very informative, will do some reading on your blog.

Thank you

i would suggest you to go for mbb2amex. if you were mostly doing your groceries, dining, shopping, movies, petrol on weekends, that would be even better.

Even factoring in offers such as 10% off at certain dining places? Do note I spend roughly RM1000+- per month. With RM1000 per month, the total treat points after 3 years is roughly 100,000. Where as Citibank its lifetime and I can save it up till I really want to spend my points. And the offers for Citibank Clear Card sort of interest me. Where as Maybank has lesser offers. What do you think?

Yes, Maybe Citibank Card Privileges (Discount or Offer) + Evergreen Rewards Point No Expired Which's become a Attraction to Most of PPL, but the Clear Card do came with Annual Fee (RM90) + GST RM50. Ya, You may Request Annual Fee Waiver from Citibank Every Year but Sometimes also Subject to their Approval, they give or not ... sweat.gif
Meanwhile, Maybank 2Cards will Benefiting U with 2 cards, Maybankard 2 American Express® Card & Maybankard 2 Visa / MasterCard, in 1 Sign up, 1 Service Tax, and 1 Statement plus, the MBB 2 Cards also is Lifetime Fee Waiver with NO T&C's Applied to... thumbup.gif

You can Accumulate/Earn More Rewards Point lebih Cepat: 2x / 5X Treats point + 5% Cash-Back from Weekends Spend with Maybank 2Cards (Amex) for Every RM1 Spent. Do Use the Treats Point to Offset Yearly GST or Shopping Voucher Redemption Even Use it for MAS Enrich Air Miles Redemption ... Although the Treats Point came with 3 Years Expiration Period icon_rolleyes.gif
As for Citibank Clear Card just Plain RM1 /1 Rewards Point
Furthermore, FYI... NO Point will be Rewarded on Petrol Purchase with Most of the Citi's Credit Card doh.gif

With Maybank 2Cards U Can Enjoy Lowest finance charge of 8.88% per annum on your outstanding retail balance. All you need to do is promptly settle minimum payment, 5% of the outstanding balance or a minimum of RM25.
Citibank or Most All the Bank CC with Finance Charge of 15-18% per Annum or a min of RM50

Btw, U can Consider also with OCBC Titanium Card as Spared - Unlimited 1% Cash Back for Everything + is Free For Life with No Annual Fee, Which is Good for the Place that X Accept Amex wink.gif
