Besides the Leopard 2SG (Upgrade package by IBD & STK) the SAF also operates the Leopard 2A4 same as the above picture.

Indonesia ordered 113 Leopard 2s from Germany that consist of 63 unit Leopard MBT Revolution (Upgrade package by Rheinmetall), 40 unit Leopard 2A4 & 10 unit Support Vehicles (Bridge Layers & ARV).

The Rhenmetall MBT Revolution can be seen here on display during Indo Defence Expo 2012.

Supposed to be replaced by made in malaysia Sakti 105mm howitzer a decade ago but I guess they found that the oto melaras are irreplaceable till now.

sakti... made (more like, licence-produced) by PSC-ND methink

well i think we should look for our 105mm howitzer replacement. oto melara have been used since....what, emergency? i know that oto melara is a great gun, being lightweight and easily disassembled into several pieces (as expected of a mountain gun). but other 105 gun have better accuracy and longer range, not to mention C4I capability

some countries ditched the 105mm guns entirely, but for me 105mm still useful especially as company-level support weapon. the army have bought several 120mm mortar carrier i think

Howitzers are not organic to the infantry formation. How ken they be company level weapons.gilo ke nak maneuver dengan 105mm howitzers

The 105mm belong with the 155mm and ASTROSS as theatre weapons to provide accurate indirect fire to anyone who needs it while mortars provide the infantry unit with consistent fire support, something that Howitzers cannot do

Yeah, you got a point, wait till smeo produce our own supercanggih 105mm multirole gun i guess, if you want to see a change in the lineup of our howitzers regiments. Afaik, the army has 8 120mm mortar based on the Adnan ACV300S and another 8 on order to be based on the AV8. Dont know if they have any sideorder though.

having said all that, i do hope the army to get new 105mm howitzers though

the oto melara 105 really shows its age

No need get 105 howitzers.
120mm mortar on vehicle should replace it.
Sph would be another good call for it.

Report: France Loses Out on Brazil Fighter Jet Contract

Dec. 15, 2013 - 12:59PM  |
By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL — France will lose out in its bid to win a multi-billion-dollar fighter jet contract with Brazil, the Folha de Sao Paulo daily reported Saturday.

The newspaper set France’s $4 billion proposal for 36 Rafale fighter jets, from a consortium led by French giant Dassault, will be shot down for cost reason. It did not say who would be the likely winner of the highly prized contract.

The French bid is up against Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet and the Gripen, made by Sweden’s Saab, for its FX-2 program.

French President Francois Hollande held talks Thursday with his Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff in Brasilia during which he backed sharing technological knowhow and saluted increasing bilateral trade.

With Brazil seeking to retire its Mirage 2000 jets at the end of the year, France has been pushing the merits of the Rafale, initially believing it had a deal under Hollande’s predecessor Nicolas Sarkozy.

Rousseff’s predecessor, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, had said in 2009 that Brazil would plump for the Rafale but he left office before a deal could be put together and Rousseff then decided to reassess the options.

Indications in Brazil are that Rousseff is not ready to approve such a big-ticket purchase going into a year in which she seeks re-election and when her government is already under fire from voters for the estimated $11 billion cost of staging the World Cup.

Folha predicted a final decision would not come before 2015.
