imo, a medal should be given to those who have done something heroic during war or peacetime or KIA..in this case, i don't think PGB should be given to the trainees just because they survived that incident..maybe they should just give medal to the instructors, i heard the one who thought about using minyak senjata to power up the boat engine are the commando's instrutors..seems to me, lately gov been handing medals easily to whoever they want..iinm, there's no medal when a few 10 Para Brigade Paratroopers died during practice for LIMA 2007...

well, Nakhoda Ragam was also offered to us some years ago, but we rejected them bcoz needed some modifications to make them up to the mark..surely it will cost more to modify them

and lots of other foreigners..seriously, why are we giving titles and pingat to foreigners??

Kerajaan negeri bersetuju menganugerahkan pingat Bintang Gagah Perkasa (BGP) kepada dua jurulatih dan 11 pelatih asas komando yang terselamat ketika bot mereka karam ketika menjalani latihan mendayung di perairan selat melaka, isnin lalu.


Penganugerahkan itu akan disempurnakan oleh yang dipertua negeri, tun mohd khalil yaakob dalam suatu istiadat yang akan ditetapkan kelak.

Pingat BGP dan bukannya  Pingat Gagah Berani (PGB) yang dilaporkan sebelum ini, dianugerahkan kepada mereka sebagai menghargai semangat berpasukan dan setiakawan yang ditunjukkan oleh anggota terbabit ketika berada di laut hampir 28 jam sebelum selamat mendarat dengan bot di pantai puteri.
   
Pingat BGP pernah dianugerahkan kepada jurukamera bernamatv noramfaizul mohd noor yang terkorban ketika menyertai misi kemanusiaan di somalia pada 2 september 2011. Ia dianugerahkan sempena sambutan Hari Jadi ke-73  Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka.


Kerajaan negeri menghargai semangat juang yang ditunjukkan oleh jurulatih dan pelatih komondo terbabit ketika menghadapi cabaran dan dugaan yang patut dicontohi oleh generasi muda.

Philippine Marine Corps to get tactical ISTAR UAVs

The Philippines Department of National Defense (DND) has announced a plan to purchase reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to boost the expeditionary and combat capability of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC).

The DND Bids and Awards Committee said on 10 December that the programme comprises the acquisition of three marine imagery and targeting support system (MITSS) sets for each brigade of the PMC. Each set will comprise two "small" UAVs, three target acquisition devices and four tactical sensor integration systems. The supplier has also been requested to supply integrated logistics support.

The DND said the programme is valued at PHP684.2 million (USD15.5 million) and that bids will be considered from 6 January 2014

Iraq signs $1.1 bn deal to buy S. Korean fighters

Seoul (AFP) - Iraq signed a $1.1 billion deal Thursday to buy 24 multi-role light fighters from South Korea, officials said, in what will be the Asian nation's biggest arms export.

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) said it would deliver the T-50IQ, a variant of its T-50 supersonic aircraft, to Baghdad between 2015 and 2016, under the terms of the deal signed in Seoul.

The company also said it expected to sign an additional $1.0 billion deal in 2014 to provide parts, equipment and pilot training for 20 years.

The T-50IQ is an advanced multi-role fighter that is equipped with precision-guided weapons, missiles and machine guns.

"It's the biggest order in the history of South Korea's arms exports," a KAI spokesman told AFP.

KAI officials hope the deal will help their company tap into the lower-end fighter market as they seek to expand the global outreach beyond Southeast Asia, Europe and South America, according to the South's Yonhap news agency.

It quoted KAI Chairman Ha Sung-Yong, who is now in Baghdad, as saying: "South Korea's aerospace industry has shown its competitiveness in the world market and its export potential."

The T-50 is South Korea's first home-built supersonic aircraft and one of the world's few supersonic trainers. After its maiden flight in 2002, the aircraft entered active service in 2005.

The trainer has been developed into combat and multi-role variants.

After its first overseas deal in 2011 to sell a T-50 attack variant to Indonesia, KAI has pursued additional export orders with Turkey and other countries. In October, the Philippines agreed to buy 12 fighters.

KAI was formed after South Korea's 1997 financial crisis as a joint venture of three companies specialising in arms production and aviation. It has launched various projects to produce military and civilian planes.
