This thread started as a seeking for dashcam thread, ended up being a discussion thread. There are so many dash cameras out there, and here are the models that I'm currently using:
- Xiaomi Yi Smart Wifi Dash Camera (First Edition) [NOT POWER EDITION] - Xiaomi 70mai Mini Dashcam

Hi guys, plan to get a traffic recorder for all my cars. I've went through LYN's automotive garage but still not impressed with most of them. I'm looking for something with:
- Full HD videos, but good quality and better colours - GPS showing speed - look as stealthy as possible - budget less than RM300 per unit.
Anyone can recommend me any unit or any shop i can visit to test it out. Thanks!
been looking the same thing... unfortunately this car DVR are consider new market in malaysia... not many seller advertise their item online.... and many buyer i believed bought from china/taiwan/HK themself.. and pricing wise is much more cheaper than malaysia market because of their competitiveness and market demand
p/s: btw..i found some seller with physical shop that i believe you can test out the product yourself but currently they only sell one type of DVR http://www.lelong.com.my/full-hd-1080p-car...7-01-Sale-I.htm or you can search at aliexpress....but it still a RISK buying electronic product from oversea online seller
like sanadi recommend i also recommend blackvue blackvue also have cheaper models but NOT full HD...its 720p which for me is more than enough or go papago..but also RM300 budget, impossible full HD when its cheap and stated its "full HD"...they mean the size of the video is full HD, not the quality
Well, frankly speaking with less than RM300, I don't think you can get what you have listed above. So, I advice is, try to topup to RM700-RM800, then you may have somethings you want.
I am currently using DOD LS300w, which is truly Full HD 1080P.
Since you already set the budget around RM300, I guess you can only get a good camera recorder with reasonable quality on optical, but not with GPS ability. For a unit with GPS....the budget need to be up! maybe twice as much...somewhere in Rm600 range!
Mio Mivue 388
the image above shows MIO Mivue388......probably close to Rm600-700!** This unit has Full HD and GPS ability
But MIO also offers a lesser model ie Mio Mivue 338 and 358!
Basically, The Mio Mivue 338 has 720p resolution(around Rm300) and the Mio Mivue 358 Full HD!(Rm400)
Where to get it? Ebay!
I currently using the Mivue338 and although it is just a 720p in resolution. I compared to the WayWay V270 HD model found in local market(Rm229). The Mivue338 actually has better optical (wider angle) and better night time images! The WayWay V270 HD although having full HD or 1080p resolution, the lens a bit distorted and night time recording is less detail and darker!
Wayway V270
Other than image quality, we need also need to take note on file sizes.
at 720p the Mivu338e files averaging at 70MB (for 120seconds video), but WayWay V270 at similar resolution, the file is trice as big! Around 200MB ....
A small memory card such as the 8GB card is useless on wayway....due to its memory hungry nature!
In short, similar size SDCard can store less recorded videos on Wayway compared to the Mio Mivue devices!
Lastly, you need to look also on the the "buttons". Are they carefully layout? Are the buttons Easily to access and press in driving situation?
Plastic quality on MIO devices are great as well, suction cup and accessories(charger) are as good as Garmin product. The Wayway accessories on the other hand, are working fine but the quality is not as good as Mio!
Thats my personal review ....
And below is the basic Mio Mivue338 look like:
** since the Mio are sold at Ebay.....I couldnt give you a definite or reliable pricing! The prices keep on changing on day to day basis, please check them out regularly .....it may be lesser that what I said now!!!!

Do acknowledge that by buying these cheap china dashcams, you're basically taking a gamble by the way. Google for GS9000 on dashcamtalk and you can read horror stories as well as success stories. My tips is do your research before buying any dashcam so you know the pros and cons before buying. Also read up on processor types etc and don't fall for cheap prices on ebay as it might be fakes(yeap, fakes of china brands)
add: just added another sample that happened today

I personally use a Blackvue DR380HD. It's 720p only, however the video quality at night is excellent. It has even more features that I never thought about when buying a dashcam eg. parking mode, battery backup for recording when the engine is off etc.
Build quality is excellent, I've had it for 7 months without problems but the price is far too expensive in Malaysia for any dashcam as mentioned by someone already. I would like to get a cheap dashcam but from watching youtube the video quality at night is lower, plus from dashcamtalk forums etc. most of the cheap China made dashcams aren't very reliable (overheating etc.)
This is my own personal video at the KL-Putrajaya highway

Unfortunately it is. Most people advertise online nowadays. But we would like to try it out first before purchase. There are lots of dashcam manufacturers out there, especially china and HK, but all they do is slap in a idunnowhat camera lens and that's it. Not really optimized for the proper usage.

Hmm... I know this guy. Some people said he sounds like James May. I did watch his videos before, but he sounds like every single additional features on the dashcam is stupid. All you need is a camera lens and a screen. That's it.

Mivue 338 sounds great. I've watched the videos on YT, but the night shot isn't good. Very dark. Since you're using it can you post night shots here? From this video it looks so dark:
Plus, sometimes I'll take it off and use it as action camera and stuff.

No, I didnt keep samples of my night time driving videos! Wipe them off already....sorry
Anyway, the YT sample that you post has similar quality or close enough on what I am having now.....wait until you see the China made devices night time recording! I tell you... very very dark! The video images are darker than the actual situation.
As for Mivue, I guess the device managed to capture as close as what you can see during night time driving!
(note: it was a good video sample, as it was dark and raining.....yet you can still recognize the white car passing at the junction)

just use ip4 is an option in youtube...i did follow a channel where he record everything that happens when its behind a wheel but if not wrong, hes using ip4s he starts record everytime hes in the car

The BlackVue definitely has audio. I have one and using it for some time already. Caught one accident happening in front of me too.
I did some research on the iPhone first obviously because I have an iPhone but I'm not convinced that the lens is wide enough or the iPhone is sturdy enough to record during an accident.

depends on the model. Thats why we have forums like Dashcamtalk to discuss the quality of the product and also sample videos on Youtube is aplenty. Not all china dashcams are bad, you just have to pick wisely and also pray hard before getting it as QC does seem to be a problem but if everything's good, you may had just purchased the best thing for the money.
Heres a sample from my GS9000 night shot, taken on NKVE. It's not too bright but it still retains alot of detail and noise levels are in check unlike some other cameras which boosts the ISO until the video literally becomes blotches of colour.
this model here does not have GPS, but look at the specs and sample vids, the video quality is AWESOME especially in the night! Only costs roughly RM350
Seems to be a rebranded DOD LS300W which means it's quite decent!

That's why I've searched high and low on LYN's AG, about 90% of them are idunnowhat brands, costs roughly RM89-200. I saw this guy, he's selling 5 types of china idunnowhat brand DVR and after watching all the sample videos, all of them are crap. My friend bought one of those, around 150++. Just normal basic lens, full HD but it's quality isn't good.

thats a no some cheapo DVR dn't have that loop function
most cheapos will have the loop function, and that's it. btw, it's not cheap to get an iphone 4, and I personally using an iPhone 5, so I can actually use my iPhone 5 to record, but problems are:
1) overheat easily, with screen on all the time and recording, and you need to keep the iphone plugged to the usb adaptor 2) if use normal camera app, no date and time will be shown 3) 3rd party "car dvr" app for iPhone costs a bomb and they only add date and time and probably speed, and they record at most 480p. 4) recording will stop when someone interrupts with a phone call

Btw, a DB9's bumper will costs you >50 grand.
That's why i ddin't bother searching locally when i was eyeing out for a dashcam. I guess the only decent one sold locally is the Papago which the cheapest model is RM400 and the only features it have is record, plus it does not have a battery, instead it have a 'supercapacitor' of some sort, enough juice only to save the video file when you kill the engine, no extended record.
I bought mine from Dealextreme by the way and this video came with my camera
Oh and btw, unlike some dashcams, the GS9000 have literally ZERO gap between files. playback via the software provided which automatically detects the recordings within the same session then compiles everything and you're able to playback all the segments as if it was one long video instead. Between each segment i do not see any gaps at all
at least i know they test their cameras out before sending it over. And my package actually arrived from Singapore
And yes it does have GPS and G-Sensor as can be seen from the speed imprint on the video and also the link i attached showing the screenshot of the app.

New Hero 3 around 800++, so i guess that's the original hero, or second/third hand item.
Hero 3 got 3 models, white silver and black. the cheapest one priced at RM8xx is actually the Hero 1 HD repackaged while the 2nd in the series is actually the Hero 2 HD repackaged. The only one that's truly new is the Hero 3 Black edition, also the most expensive.

But i'll try to avoid something like this:
That one is utter crap and it's flooding our malaysian market. Can be gotten for RM100 easily.
If you really don't mind the GPS, you can opt for the one i posted earlier, with F1.6 lens and WDR. The image quality is simply SUPERB!
Seems like it's a new model as well, just released 2~3 months ago.

what other models you were considering/recommend besides the 2 you've mentioned?
the gt550w seems like the best bet if you don't need the GPS features. The GS9000 seems to be having more than usual amount of issues but most of it fixable by yoourself if you're a technical type of person. Might be opening up my unit soon. I noticed that after the unit had been placed under the sun for some time, the focus will change, resulting in blurred image, but once it had cooled down it returns to normal
suspecting the holder holding the lens to the sensor might be loose lol.

Anbody has tried the Papago P2Pro? Thinking of getting this thing and it has few more features which might be useful like lane depature warning etc. ipmart seems to be the cheapest source at the moment. Only thing that I'm not that keen is the danggling wire for the power source

Hi guys. Sorry for bumping my old thread but I'm actually still interested in finding this thing. Something happened today and something else almost happened today so I think I really need one. Budget still less than RM300/unit. Tested out a few units and I must say that even the shitty brand ones are kinda impressive.

I think this is a copy of this product:
DOD LS430W. It has lots of great functions but look at the darn price.
epic price requires epic staying away... aggaga
but with the G1W, considering u can get something for approx RM300 INCLUDING a 32GB MicroSD card (purchased separately) with that kinda quality... i have to say its pretty bang for buck. but id still wanna find one locally....
not only price, i emphasize on quality also. out there even got RM69 ones, but the quality is crap.
how would u know those sold in ebay arent good enuf to take videos? price starts from 200-800+... should be fine i guess.. most of them give samples videos if ur not convinced enuf..

Try Garmin GDR35, its support FullHD and cost around rm290, it even have option for additional rear camera.. I already use it for work purpose, its quite good n all ur video can be watch with Garmin PC Tools software at computer..
It can even detect sudden impact where u can setting its sensitivity.. The video support is VGA, 720p n 1080p.

New cheap NTK96650+AR0330 Car Camera arrived-G1WH Posted on December 30, 2013 by FoxOffer — No Comments ↓ The car cameras based on NTK96650 chip and AR0330 sensor are very hot sale this year, the popular car camera is like G1W, LS300W, GT300W. Now we start to sell a new camera called G1WH which looks like LS300W.
g1wh car dvr_LRG
The difference between G1W and G1WH:
1. Looks different
2. G1WH view angle is 140 degree VS G1W 120 degree
3. G1WH video quality is a little better(personal opinion)
4. Mainboard is different, but is hard to tell which one is better.
You guys should get your cameras from Foxoffer, Dealextreme or reputable eBay sellers, heard a few horor stories from Ali. Foxoffer and DX will be your best bet and their prices are pretty cheap, shipping's free and also the DVR's ship from Singapore!

interesting... any reviews? dont have time to google for GW1H reviews yet
and any idea how long it takes for shipping? would be awesome if its only 1 week... kinda need it before the 8/2

I was thinking of getting the G1W but haven't saw any shops selling it yet.
Mine has a crappy microphone. So I need to test another one.
Just get it online. All you can get locally here are cheapass dashcams. Actually I'm thinking of bringing in some good quality dashcams to be sold here seeing that all dashcams over here are all crap quality. Only thing worried is whether will people buy these dashcams considering the cheaper ones are priced around RM100-150
My GS9000 have very, very good audio quality, not too sure about the GT680 or G1WH though but I read the Novatek's have a tendency to produce a constant frequency hiss but they say it's not really a deal-breaker, just a minor annoyance during video playback

Well, if you've seen the G1W sample videos, the G1WH just adds wider angle and slightly better video quality.
I remember my item from DX took 2 weeks to arrive from Singapore. We'll see how long the GT680 i ordered from Foxoffer will take to arrive but they provided me a tracking number to Singpost.

My GS9000 have very, very good audio quality, not too sure about the GT680 or G1WH though but I read the Novatek's have a tendency to produce a constant frequency hiss but they say it's not really a deal-breaker, just a minor annoyance during video playback Well, if you've seen the G1W sample videos, the G1WH just adds wider angle and slightly better video quality.
I remember my item from DX took 2 weeks to arrive from Singapore. We'll see how long the GT680 i ordered from Foxoffer will take to arrive.
G1W will be the best value for money dashcam. I saw someone selling G1W on ebay for just RM124. You can say it's "award-winning"
If you dare to take the risk, bring in stuff like Blackvue, MINI DVR 0801, Vico WF-1, etc.

Beware of buying from eBay though as there are many fakes, unless you're 100% sure it's the original one.
fuggit... just ordered G1WH from foxoffer and included the 32gb card one shot so i no need susah2 go find the stuff since the card only converts to RM75.... total came up to RM282.37 for camera + 32gb card....luckily can pay using paypal heh.
hopefully it arrives soon... wanna test it out before bringing it to SIC for track day on the 8th of Feb
and i hope its flexible enough so i can mount it on the rear passenger side window to get this kinda angle
just so that i can see how sucky or menggelabah i am in the car... heheheheheh
anyway.... now id like to ask for recommendations on a dual camera (front and rear) DVR... getting an MPV soon which my wife n son will be in most of the time, so i wanna make sure all is good.... something around the RM300 range inclusive of memory card would be awesome....any ideas? something that maybe has a screen up front so that can use as a reverse camera oso

LOL you finally decided to buy. I chose the GT680W because of the GPS.
I'd recommend you get another card to load on during the actual track run though. At least you don't risk your files getting overwritten on your way home or when you forget to unload the videos
But then again, 32gb should be good for around 8 hours of videos...
And currently in the market there aren't much decent dual channel DVR's though. The good ones are all bloody expensive made in Korea stuff with touchscreen and all. Price can rival the GoPro Hero 3 Black edition
I'd just go with sticking another G1W to the rear

hahahahahaha...yeha.... been wanting one of these since my last track day 2.5 years ago... might as well just bite the bullet since bonus just came out hahahhahahaha
actually im planning on unplugging it as soon as track day is over just to make sure heheheh
that is of course, provided the camera arrives BEFORE 8th of feb la.. otherwise itll be an epic facepalm moment

Just leave it plugged in la. Mana tau will manage to record some dude crashing on the way back from SIC lol.
High chance it would arrive before feb. Most of the time it will arrive within 2 weeks though my longest wait was 4 weeks, but that was from eBay chipment from China.
Else you could borrow someone's Gopro. I'm sure you have friends who owns one

Quick review of my dashcam:
Already destroyed 1 microSD card when using the built-in format function. Just now went out for lunch, it kept saying Memory error and I had to remove the SD card and plug it into my PC to make sure it's okay. It turns out to be almost full and I had to manually format it.
So Nightstalker1993, might be considering your G1WH. Anyway G1W is already a fake copycat of LS300W.

Well, alot of these company share the same body, they just change the internals and sell it as a new product under a new product name.
I might get one G1WH for my rear though. Will definitely beat any dual channel DVR's in terms of price and quality

See any difference other than the price? Both the specs and casings are exactly the same. And DOD cameras are all from Taiwan/China.
Oh well, maybe you're right. Maybe not.
Compare a real iPhone 5S and copycat iPhone 5S from China. They claimed the specs are the same. Some even claimed they have better specs than iPhone 5S. Lies, lies everywhere.

Well that's kinda obvious. Apple iOs is something branded and can't be copied(at least legally) as Apple develops their own software and hardware while brands like DOD just finds the companies that makes these cameras and ask them to print their brand name on and sell it as their own. This is a very common practise where one factory can produce the same or similar products and be rebranded under different names. I'm sure you've heard brand like Sonic Gear who makes speakers, they actualyl source their products from an OEM company in China which is why you see other speaker brands who sells speakers with similar or the same design with the same quality and components as they are from the same factory afterall.
Brands like Papago or some Korean brands like Urive who actually develops their own software and hardware on the other hand, does not have an unbranded version of their product.

The GT680W is really an awesome performer in low light. Here's some comparison shots with my GS9000. The GS9000 looks like shit next to the GT680w shots. Notice in the last photo the GT680w managed to capture the Satria's plate number while the GS9000 failed miserably

i find that rattling sound super annoying..... anyway to get rid of it? if its just the mounts then should be easy.. but if its the camera's internals... abit the susah.
got the tracking number already for my G1WH... i guess mebbe another week it should arrive.

it's the car i reckon, 14 year old car... well lol.
camera mount/internals should be fine, from other people's reviews/videos.

id still look into it... even my car handphone holder has rattling sounds when i record video and i ended up using padding a few places.... and that rattling sound in ur video sounds exactly like the rattling plastics of the mounts that i had.

Lol the lens flares are most likely due to the super old windscreen than the lens.
About the brightness, it's not digitally enhanced in-camera else we'd be seeing tons of noise, but the camera itself have pretty amazing low-light capabilities with it's F1.6 lens and the sensor+processor combination.
Only complain about the GT680W is that the mic seems to be pretty shitty.

Should be gua if pattern same as mine. Mine sent 2nd jan, arrived 8 jan
Too bad it isn't really mine, bought it for a friend and just handed it to him yesterday, so no more sample shots from me

- it's 14 year old iswara that is speeding over 100km/h (last vid is having around 176 km/h based on gps - the mount is a simple 'click' secure mount, no mechanism/place for you to put paddings - instead of windscreen suction, the mount is HARD GLUED to the windscreen using 3M tape (it's going to ruin the glued part when i remove and transfer it to my new car later ) - the DVR mic is known to be, well subpar considering the insane premium price i paid for it. and yes, wind noise (you know how old car feel/sounds at higher speed right?
=edit= i'll update if the issue still persist on the new car XD

i'd say the mic is pretty decent, quite on par with mine anyways... and especially if you compared the pricing between the 2 lol
Damn, my GS9000 mic like a condensor mic man compared to the GT680W and your DR500GW
in the 2nd video you can hear me and my friend engaging in a conversation and also trying to tune the car
oh btw...has anyone tried using these dvrs powered by in car handphone chargers? can work ah?
ive got a dual socket charger... one socket pushes 1A n the other is 2.1A... can it work? coz ill need to power the camera as well as my phone at the same time

Or either get the 12v socket extension from Brothers or Carrefour or something. Baru RM5-15 for one cucuk 1 keluar 3. I'm using that as well

Lol. Don't want 2 la. If good one below 500 also I ok liao Any to recommend?
i dont understand, is it that important to have crystal clear quality, as long as you can see the car plate is enough right? unless you are racer and take video of your driving skills, then i understand lah, like those gamer with fraps.
Like when i look at your night video above , even in 1080p i can't see the license plate of the cars that are passing you by. If accident happen like the car cut in and all that you wont be able to capture the plate.

Yeah, if you say the video I post is considered bad quality, then the ones from the rearview mirror combo type is even worse as the one i posted, is considered one of the better quality dashcams you can get in the market.
on the contrary, if all you want is to record drives, then you don't exactly such high quality anyway.
And I wouldn't want to replace my high quality original rearview mirror with a cheapo one anyway. Original mirrors have anti-glare which i doubt any of these cheap rearview mirror dashcam got.
And whether the camera captures the number plate or not depends on alot of factors, at night it would obviously be harder, just like how you'd try to take a photo at night of a moving car without flash.
this one seems to be the most decent rearview dashcam, but....

I just got this unit last week from FoxOffer. Ordered on the 12/12/13 and received it on 1/3/14 in Los Angeles. I was hoping for better video quality because of the sensor and chipset but I'm just overly disappointed. The video from this unit is very noisy when you compare it to GT300W, which I also have. GT300W is amazing at night but K100 is just very bad at night. Night video is very noisy and just not sharp. I would consider night video to be useless at this point because you can't see the license plate number clearly unless you're a foot away from the car in front of you.
I'm not sure if it's better but K100 file uses AVC 4.1 profile at 15Mbps. GT300W uses 4.0 profile at 15Mbps. It doesn't seem to have WDR/HDR and the EV adjustment just adds more noise to the footage. Picture on FoxOffer site does show HDR in the menu but it doesn't show up on my unit. K100 is rated at 1Lux min illumination so I know I wasn't getting better image at night when compare to GT300W's 0.3Lux min. But GT300w appears to me to be at least 4X brighter and sharper. The video from K100 just looks like 720P extrapolated to 1080P. It's just not sharp.
The microSD is on top and the slot is very recessed. You pretty much have to take the thing off your mirror to remove the memory card. You'll need a long fingernail for a male to press the memory card that it would eject. You can't really adjust the lens angle much unless you move the mirror to the point where you can't really see behind you. If I aim the lens to get a good front view then I can't see the middle and left side of anything behind me. It's just a very poor design. With so much space on the unit, they should have used standard SD card instead of microSD. That would at least help fix one issue.
The battery on it is either defective or not meant to be used more than 1min. I let it charge overnight and was only able to get max 1min of usage before it turns off. This really doesn't matter much if it's easier to remove the memory card to copy the videos. But because the card is so hard to take out without removing the whole mirror, I have to cut power to the unit and use the USB port to copy the video off it. The USB port should have been moved a bit lower. At the current location The USB is at the top so the USB cable will hit the headliner of your car unless your stock mirror is mounted pretty low. This makes it difficult to unplug the unit to copy the video files off because you have to tilt the whole mirror forward to unplug the cable.
Had I not have the GT300W, I would think that it's borderline acceptable but because I have been using GT300W for over 6 months, K100 is just a big disappointment to me. I was really looking forward to have something more discrete but I will have to keep using GT300W for now until something better comes along.
I will try to upload the video comparing the K100 to GT300W later on.

if you had bolded the 2nd part of the first sentence you wouldn't have to nitpick like that la. Im just asking why you need to have clear quality when the most important thing is the license plate. No?

Uhhh.... you have to have clear image quality in order to see license plate
hopefully it arrives thia week though I have my doubts especially with the 2 public holidays...
as long as it arrives before the 30th, im good...coz theres a track day on the 30th that I might be joining...decided not to join the one on the 8th bcoz based on feedbacks, ignition.my organized trackdays are like "who let the dogs out"...especially since they dont really limit the number of cars...
no one has experience powering up the dvr with the handphone in car charger before? would like to avoid buying the splitter thing as it adds clutter to the car n I dont really have a good place to mount it.
as for the quality thing, I bought it mainly to record my drives...n yes I need good quality as I wanna see everything clearly....its like watching a movie at home...takkan wanna watch cinema quality? like that means better watch movies on small 14" crt tvs instead of big flat panel tvs

Well I predict it should arrive before Friday kot.
If no limit for number of cars, hailat la Sepang internal traffic jam weyh
And the splitter thing you can find a way to hide it somewhere wan. Mine i stuff it into the gap between the seat and center console, ngam ngam fit. Most DVR's would prefer to use the original adapter as well as I know some actually wire the pins differently. And also the original adapter comes with a super long 4~5m wire which you can conceal under your roof trim, A pillar trim and carpets to make a neat installation.
anyway... i think ill just buy THIS SPLITTER.. at least itll be stuck on the power socket itself and i wont have some extra thing some place else...
only problem is... my ciggie lighter socket is somewhat recessed in the dashboard... not sure if the bulkiness of the 2 sockets will cause problems plugging it in.

G1WH Test Videos.. 4 minutes of day shots with a few different lighting conditions and 22 minutes of night shots with multiple situations and lighting conditions as well as speed...
did more of night shots mainly coz there isnt any... day shots u can find on youtube already...
night shots are pretty decent although at times i wish it was better...but definitely good enough i suppose... bulb colour of street lamps makes a diff in quality of the recording... can see it in the video.... i find white bulbs better for video quality as compared to yellow bulbs
as always... set the video at Full HD (1080p) to see it in all its glory.
i think i may need to "dampen" the microphone.. i find that it cant really take the noise from my exhaust and makes a rattling sound in the video...heck of alot worse at high revs. but not sure if its the mic... or its the plastic case itself that cant handle the noise... hahahahhaha
I've also managed to answer my own question about using the DVR with a mobile phone in car charger. answer is yes, it works. all functions like auto record during startup works... i used USAMS 3.1Amp Quick In-Car Charger...so yes.. i can record my track session and charge my phone while using a GPS Lap Timer like Race Chrono

Can see theres youtube's sucky compression working on the video though
And gawdammit, remove the lens protector la weyhhh
mADmAN too bad G1WH doesn't come with SOS function... the picture quality is good in my opinion
Nightstalker1993 i think this WDR tech that shadow GT680W use is more benefit towards china market... because on their plate colour combination...blue and white you can see it pretty clearly in their video advertisement but in your video...malaysia plate number is quite blur and china vehicle plate number also seems using some reflector material just like most of our road signage so the WDR can capture more lights in night time

I think the problem is more to Youtube compression. The raw videos out of camera looks much much better than after uploaded to Youtube. It's like youtube hates DVR videos and specially compresses it more to make it look like crap
mADmAN if you met an accident... you can just push the SOS button so the video will be save in your memory card automaticly without the possibility of video looping record on top of the SOS video
Nightstalker1993 so what you saying are the GT680W can captured clearly malaysian vehicle number plate?? you estimation... what the distance between yours and car in front of you in order for the DVR to capture the number plate clearly??? because when i'm seeing their video advertisement i'm quite impress.. but from the video you posted it doesn't impress me much...sorry

but ive turned mine off due to my car's stiff adjustable suspension as I dont want it to save each n every one of the videos everytime I hit a bump or rough patch on the road

yup...that's why in my opinion g-sensor is not very effective.. and that's also the reason i like DVR that comes with both.. g-sensor and SOS button like GT680W

Uhhh I think most cameras have that feature.
And yes the GT680w can capture malaysian plate numbers pretty good. Distance estimation few cars length kot. Just take note that the wider angle your lens is, the maximum distance where plate number still looks eligible drops. Like my GS9000, super wide angle lens but cars more than 2~3 cars away cannot see plate number liao

even if there's no such feature, with an 8gb card you've got 2 hours of footage, so that's 2 hours left until it overwrites, and if it's a 32gb card, you'd need to drive from Penang to JB and back in order for it to overwrite itself. Now, if you continue driving for 8 hours without saving a file, I'd call it user error for not saving the file.
It's like youtube hates DVR videos and specially compresses it more to make it look like crap
mine is ok though, only sound quality, which i just recently realize that it's on 16000 Hz sample rate, 24.00 kbps bitrate, faad audio format (aka shit, lol)

Finally got the time to make a sample video.
This is my Tourmate G100 (someone selling in LYN GS). You can see the video quality is not good, sound quality even worse.
Well, at least it was able to record what's happening, except when it overheats and hangs after long usage. One of the air vents have to be pointed at this unit to prevent it from overheating and hang and all the videos that were recorded halfway are not viewable.
I randomly checked what's in this card and was very disappointed. Most of the clip can't be played and some of the clips went crazy. Formatted the card and it worked fine today (i'm using 16GB Class 10, only 2 hours of recording). Plus, i can't format memory cards with this unit as it'll just destroy it completely and it'll cause computers to freeze when trying to read/format them (2 memory cards were destroyed. RIP)
But was impressed with the gapless recording and very clear date & time stamp. That's it.
P/S: The month of the date will always stuck on October. No idea why.
I'd recommend getting one from more reputable places like FoxOffer. They ship from Singapore

Lolz that model DVR very common and its a generic DVR. Usually these lower quality DVR will perform very poorly in terms of reliability and many of them have their videos corrupted which is why if you're searching for a DVR, better get one which is already tested and well known for reliability. My GS9000 hanged before once, read online that formatting the card may solve it due to corrupted files being in the card. One of the files got corrupted as I removed the memory card from the device while it was still recording halfway. After I formatted the card, it did not hang anymore.

yup...the quality is horrible even when set to 1080p... i could barely read the number plate of the golf and the nissan u were trailing on federal highway...
on the other hand... this video is a good example for spacelion to see why good quality is needed... coz without quality u can barely read the number plate.

The Tourmate one is definitely not 1080p. Looks more like 720p or 480p upscale
Your G1WH video you compare the Youtube uploaded version and the RAW files from the camera, are there much difference? Maybe posting a screenshot from the raw image would be better at judging the image quality like I had done with mine..
I have been using the PAPAGO P3 for some times now, except for overheated issue, no other complaint. Here are some sample pics I had prepared:

Note: I am not a PAPAGO agent or seller.
Yes the Papago is a decent camera. I've known it since the P1 days. Very sharp lens but very narrow field of view. Upside about the narrow field of view is that you can actually see plate numbers from vehicles that are further away compared to the super wide angle models like mine where cars further than 1~2 car length it'll be very hard to identify the plate number.

yes theres a quite difference... notice the white myvi's number plate as well as the number plate on the wira in front of the myvi.
also notice the rear wheels of the red wira on the right...in youtube, the wheels looks a round black blur... with the raw file u can actually see the

It's 720p upscale. That's why there's no difference between the two. It's the same. 480p is the worst.
I'm looking for another car camera and last time I mentioned G1W, but since mADmAN mentioned G1WH, and from the following video, it's not bad, I think, so where can I buy these locally? I saw someone selling the LS330W and LS430W on Garage Sales for RM500+ and RM600+. Just wondering where can I get G1WH locally. I don't mind paying a little extra as long as I can test it out before getting. Any shops in Lowyat/Digital Mall/anywhere else sells these?

hmm... I'll see first. Thanks for the offer anyway.

dont think u can get the G1W or G1WH locally actually...
the nearest u can get is probably the foxoffer offices in Singapore...and since free shipping, might as well just buy straight.
im quite happy i took the plunge... pretty satisfied with it so far... hopefully will be recording more videos on the 30th
any links? I was told that the G1W does not take class 10 microSDs.
what about shops that sell other dvrs? i know some shopping malls got but they're selling expensive stuff. Harvey Norman is selling those very cheap cameras at a very high price.
should be... they ship out from singapore using Speedpost

according to techmoan's review, no it doesnt accept class10. but the G1WH i bought, i also bought a class 10 MicroSD card from foxoffer.com and they are working perfectly. totals about RM280 right to your doorstep.
eerr...no idea... forgot to check about warranty hahahahahha
hahahhahaha... warranty is quite important bro for electronic stuff that's why some of us prefer to buy locally... and more importantly we can check the device function before commit to purchase..
p/s: or maybe the singapore office is just their reseller?? damn..i see an opportunity to became a foxoffer malaysia reseller can ahh???

You need to change software bro, Youtube Downloader HD had no problem downloading in full HD 1080p. Your video is a whopping 700mb in size

Just get it from Foxoffer. If you had not done online shopping before, now is the time
If you got the budget, should aim for the GT680w with the GPS module though. GPS feature and a better brighter lens, plus it's smaller.

Yeah after much pestering you finally decided to take the plunge
I'm guessing that DealExtreme and Foxoffer may be sharing the same warehouse at Singapore as my GS9000 which was bought from DX, was shipped from Singapore as well

oic...so if case of warranty.. we can just post it to singapore office is it???
Well, each item is tested before it leave so chances of getting a dud is pretty low. Judging from Dashcamtalk forums, Foxoffer's service is pretty good though. They have a representative active in the forums there.
My GS9000 from Dealextreme, singapore warehouse even cam preloaded with a video when it arrived

I actually thought of bringing in some of it here some time ago but cancelled it when I thought about the tax. If kena tax, hailat weyh

naah...thats the software I use to download movies n series...just so happens it works with youtube oso... and only 700mb?? original file is 2.4gb
u could do that, but dont la order all one shot....since free shipping from foxoffer, u cam just order 1 pc a day
nola, not order 1 a day. Order 2pc, then wait for delivery confirmation, then order another 2pc
but i'd imagine it to be slow moving though due to it's price after markup for profit, which is why i didn't want to bring it in
and goes to show how much compression Youtube does onto the videos
Another thing about cheaper DVRs is that they save the videos in MJPEG format, meaning it eats up TONS of space in the memory card while the more advanced DVRs all save into h264 codec which is less space hungry.

Most of you guys have watched those Russian car crash compilation videos, and one of the most "Famous" scenario is where the tyre of some trucks exploded and the car that's recording the scene was/wasn't able to avoid crashing into the truck. Well, it happened to me just now, a tyre of a truck just exploded, lots of dusts and stones hit my car (a newly painted car!!!) but I was able to avoid it. What really makes me mad was after that I found out that my car DVR hang, again, as usual. Now I wasn't able to find that scene, but this is what I was able to show you:
Just to prove that you can't simply take a 150hp Camry to chase a 280hp Golf R. LOL.
YES I'M GETTING ANOTHER CAR DVR.
THINGS TO AVOID 1) A Camry with 2.0 engine and 4 speed auto 2) This car DVR brand
I've been lurking here for a while. The poison has finally seeped in and I'm gonna buy the Shadow GT680W from foxoffer. I have been using iON Air Pro as a dash cam, it is really horrible in low light conditions... will post some vids later.
cannot promise bro... next week going digital mall/lowyat to source for it and see.
Honestly I'd rather buy one from FoxOffer as there's just so much DVRs out there you won't know which is good and which is not. There's even fakes of certain DVR. Example, my GS9000 which at the time was considered superb image quality, exists a fake version which looks exactly the same but utter horrible image quality. I'd suggest you just get from FoxOffer.

CNY promotion from foxoffer:
BTW, is the free postage trackable?
GPS Module! Don't forget the GPS module!
Oh, and by the way, my friend whom I've bought the DVR for, had uploaded a sample daytime video. The raw video looks much better though eventhough you view on youtube at 1080p

I LOLED when the DVR was bouncing to the bass.
Anyways, after much stalking in this thread, I just bought myself a GT680W with all the shebang. Hopefully the GPS module works properly

Is the vibration... because of the bass? Not bad, 165km/h on KESAS.

You can view the videos or download the raw files directly from these google drive links, raw looks slightly better. I only use the trim and save feature in quicktime pro so the quality is pretty much raw:
720p, 60fps - the dreaded night time footage... quality is shit as far as I am concerned, plus the bmw driver in this video is an ass for not letting me overtake at my favourite syok sendiri corner https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1hwR6M_9f...dit?usp=sharing
I have been using a cheap unknown Taiwan DVR for a few years without problems. But really tempted to upgrade to that GT680W after watching the video quality

As seen the video, yes the DVR failed miserably...

I intended to buy papago P1 pro. so far how is the review? reason I choose this brand is the warranty given by local agent. Just too scared to purchase products without local warranty.

I saw harvey norman got sell 2 papago models... 1 is 649 and the other one is 999 if i'm not mistaken.
i went to a PC show few months back...and there are 2-3 booths selling DashCam.... There was one booth showing very crisp video images and claiming that their Dashcam is the best in term of image quality. TRUE, i have no doubt the video shown on the LCD big screen tv was crisp and clear...even at night time you can see details like license plate and so on. But I got real uneasy feelings....asking myself why all the video clips shown were all captured somewhere overseas....?? And not locals..
How hard is it to go out for a drive and take the local scenes?
So, I just took the Dashcam name and went back home....do some Youtube search!
As expected, the same Dashcam, when submitted by real user(on the internet)....didnot produce the same picture quality similar to what I saw at the fair....
So, friends! Just be careful.....there's a lot of lie in this Dashcam business! Never trust the video submitted by the seller or the vendor.
Other than the video quality, another disturbing fact is the file size. I witness a Dashcam that can compressed a file for 70mb for a 2 minutes clip....and another Dashcam doing the same amount of work, but with a whooping huge file of 300MB ... It is like 400% less efficient....in storing your videos.

Still waiting for my camera to arrive from foxoffer.. tracking on pos malaysia (under pos daftar) shows this: Customs commissioner what?
just give Pos Malaysia a call. If you call them they can tell you exactly where it is and what is going on.
My GT680W finally arrived today. Got a USB2 card reader as a free gift since I ordered during the CNY holidays.
The camera itself looks a bit on the fragile side if you ask me.. However the picture quality is as good as they say, definitely better than my action camera ION Air Pro. The sound quality is pretty good as well, better than my expectations. My only complain is the battery life; not like I didn't know about it before purchasing the camera... Don't like to see the wires dangling (for the add on GPS module and power).
Had a hard time getting the GPS to work at first... because I was in the basement parking and somehow I didn't realize that I have to go to an open space to get the GPS to align.. am too excited with the new toy after waiting for so long, wasn't thinking straight

after watching a whole lot of techmoan's videos, I've narrowed down my choices to Vico TF2+ and Mini 0801 Ambarella A2S60. Thought of spending all my money on a decent Vico TF2+ but it's large and quite obvious and most of the time the camera is going to be in the car. So I was kinda afraid that someone might just smash the windows and steal it.
So decided to get the Mini 0801 Ambarella A2S60, which is this lol:
Gonna source around and see if i can get this camera locally. If not, I'll get it from foxoffer.
yes, but maybe your right different function and needs for both, but i rather get GoPro with that price since i can go stick and do my tongue session
dvr oso can use for touge...i brought mine to the track hahaha..its one of the main reasons I bought it coz I dont really see a need for a go pro
one thing I do prefer dvrs over go pro is the lcd screen...with dvr the lcd screen helps to aim the camera properly...plus u dont need to press the record button...as long as theres power, itll auto record when u turn on the car...battery life sucks though....go pro wins in this regard
not sure if go pro hero3 has lcd already or not
but I do agree that rm999 is sick expensive for the dvr

actually i have mine normal DVRs HP brand, record 1080p at 30FPS, but my friend got new HERO3+ record with 60FPS which give better quality video for collection. lack of LCD to view and adjust also is concern. and sometime you also dont want to stick GoPro at exterior car, its like left your 1k money their and waiting someone to snatch!
dvr oso can use for touge...i brought mine to the track hahaha..its one of the main reasons I bought it coz I dont really see a need for a go pro
one thing I do prefer dvrs over go pro is the lcd screen...with dvr the lcd screen helps to aim the camera properly...plus u dont need to press the record button...as long as theres power, itll auto record when u turn on the car...battery life sucks though....go pro wins in this regard
not sure if go pro hero3 has lcd already or not
but I do agree that rm999 is sick expensive for the dvr WAAAAAAAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA

G1WH cannot add on GPS module right?
I was wondering, what is the important of having GPS module? Anyone can enlighten me?
Guys.. What resolution have you set in your dashcam? I noticed if I put 720p in recording then I will have difficulty in playing the video on pc.. The video Will like a bit lagging.. I wish to set it as 1080p HD but considering my pc can't play it well, what should I do?

I am going to order the GT680W from fox offer. Do I need to pay customs? How much would that be? This is my first time buying something online with my credit card. Is it safe?

I didnt kena any customs...i dont think any of us kena oso since we bought only 1 instead of a bundle

nope it won't get taxed because
1. Total cost inclusive of shipping is below RM500 (that's the golden rule to avoid tax on taxable items by the customs but read below..) 2. Cameras are not taxable items (just like computer components/laptops/desktop pc).
I am thinking of using a powerbank to power up my GT680W.. I really don't like the hanging cable from the camera to the cigarette plug, not forgetting the cable for the GPS module. Is anyone doing this? I wonder if it is safe for the camera? Scared the voltage is different or something and will spoil the camera in the long run.
oh my bulu ketiak.... i just finished going through techmoan's review of the SJ4000 ACTION CAMERA....i waaaaaaaaaaaaannn....for my usage id have to say this package is perfect! since i wanna use for track days and was also thinking of using it for riding as well....plus can be used as DVR too!
and at RM457 including 1 extra battery, 32gb card and car mount (which is separately purchase, but included in the total price i mentioned)...id have to say its damn bang for buck especially since it comes with all the mounts
haih... need to find me marneeeee

ive personally never used my G1WH with the supplied charger.... ive always used it with the handphone in car charger and it works well... but then i havent had much footage on the G1WH since i lazy wanna pasang eheheh...so i cant really say in terms of long run.
ur GT680W charger doesnt have long cables ah? iinm most DVR chargers has long cables which are meant to be routed within the car trim to the ciggie lighter socket... just takes a bit of time n a lil bit of effort by chucking it within to do it.
mind taking a pic of how u set it up? wanna see how far the GPS module u setup... should be able to hide the wires too...

i like how he keeps evading the whole "leading action camera manufacturer" bit during the video.
and yes, compared to the original, this one cost only 1/4 the price

the cable is indeed long, but I'm horrible at cable management plus I don't like the idea of sticking the cable on my dashboard. as for the gps module, previously I sorta mount it at the rearview mirror, but sometimes it would take too long to get a signal so I moved it to the windscreen driver side (like roadtax but on the right). will upload some photos later on
oh another thing.. do you guys use the dashcam daily? or for most of your drives? if yes, do you keep all the videos? earlier on I use it for every single drive but now I only use it when I feel like it because I always take out the micro sd card after each trip and unplug everything so it became somewhat a hassle to set them up again for the next drive.. and I find myself 'hoarding' the videos even when there's nothing interesting going on... sometimes it's just a case of "oh the sky is so blue in this video.. I will keep this" LOL

I dont think ur supposed to stick the cable on ur dash...ur supposed to hide it...should be routed to ur glove box area...one of techmoans videos did show how he routed the cable but I forgot which one....might be the one for the very small dvr
ive only used it a few times...planning on installing it permanently on my family ride and only removing it for track days or group convoys.
just havent bought the dual ciggie lighter port n also abit the malas

I have a Blackvue. I leave mine plugged in all the time, I don't even bother to unplug it except when I leave my car for service. That way it's always on and always recording, god knows when you'll need it The 8GB card keeps several hours of video, I don't hoard any of the videos at all, just let it overwrite the old ones.

So I came across this Techmoan's latest video on hidden dashcam and I thought it was a good idea. So I was thinking of disassembling my car camera and do the same, probably put a better lens (but the board itself is crap). Here's what I've got.
can someone also recommend me one for front and back
without those cables flying around at the middle
How to not have cables flying in the middle unless u found something with solar powered for power supply + wireless data transfer to the main unit . Most front and back only have 1 recording unit , the front with micro sd while the rear send the pic to it to b4 recorded in it . If u have a socket in the boot , well , u can get 2 individual unit so u have 1 for each side without any wires going thru the middle

Any recommendation for DVR with built in GPS? Not that big please. Thanks.

Anyone has the Mini 0801 Amberella chipset? Looking at the review, it seems quite a good DVR and foxoffer has it for US$85 for one with GPS & 8GB internal.

I dont know that but i travel in a singapore taxi before and his cables are hidden somewhere
He do not have those tangling cables on the middle to the slot
ok placed an order for SJ4000 to record my in cabin video because i can't salvage my old android phone for that purpose (the damn thing wouldn't read my micro sd )

yeah i just happen to need a car charger for my phone, and the suction mount so i can mount the thing to the side of my window for it to record my cabin/dashboard

Better than GT680W...?
Not really sure as this is my first DVR. It looks a hell lot uglier though. But RX300 is the later version of GT680W and it has a bigger capacity for its internal battery.
is youtube's video compression that bad or is the raw video mmg like that?
coz the daytime video i can barely read the sign when u turn left.
Will upload a new day time video again, it is probably youtube, had one in facebook which looks okay before and the .mov file I have in the HD looks okay too.
Uploading the same video causes the same effect, no idea what youtube has done but the signboards are all almost unreadable.

Recently there are some bugger scratch my gf car. I'm thinking is there any such camera exist to help tat ?
Any such technology when something near your car , the camera start to record detected by motion ? I'm thinking also how the camera can capture all angle. Got such thing ?

actually alot of DVRs has motion detection recording... but they will detect ALL motion... and plus ur camera only pointing in 1 direction i.e. front... so kinda pointless if the motion is at the side or at the back.
actually a cheaper, and free solution.... is to advise ur gf to stop driving like a prick... park properly and not to piss people off....this is if the scratch was intentional i.e someone key her car.
but if its unintentional i.e. accidentally scratch the car while reversing out of parking etc.... camera not really gonna do any good...

Thanks for feedback. Just dun presume without know anything. Not only her car got scratch, a new car to be delivered to customer also got scratch.
do you guys actually keep your DVRs or do you just leave it hanging on your windscreen everytime you get off from your car? I want to get a SJ4000 but worry people might think its a GoPro and go smash my windscreen to steal it. But if take it on and off very troublesome. What do you guys do? thank you
Are these multi adapters safe to use eg. spoil the cigarette lighter port or reduce the voltage etc.? Cos if same as usb, i notice multi usb does not work well.
Maybe brands make difference?
I see many selling even in supermarkets.
Any experience to share?

u can buy a dual slot cigarette lighter socket like this
yes there are front and rear car DVRs, video quality tend to not be as good as single cameras though... can try searching for the dual cameras HERE

ive only installed mine a couple of days...works qell enough to power up the dvr n charge my phone at the same time...but ive seen many cars especially cabs n tow trucks uae them
go to foxoffer.com...get the price in usd (free international shipping)
after that google for currency converter.... xe.com is a popular one
Thanks.. browse through foxoffers and also this thread and saw most of the people are talking about the GT680W. I'm wondering is there something cheaper than can produce some decent quality of videos. I just need one which can at least capture decent video quality during day and night. Don't need GPS or anything.

Hope you don't mind another question, can the device run just on battery alone? and only charge when needed.. if I don't want to see the cable dangling in the middle of the car

yes but it only lasts a few minutes...so the battery is pretty much useless in a way hahahahha
most (if not all) DVRs comes with a pretty long cable so u can route it within ur trim.... the G1WH has this.
i routed mine within the trim... not that difficult....u can see a sample of how the cable is routed above by wiraone
wheeeeeeeee... May 18th track day is on!!! hope to book muh slot asap
will definitely be bringing muh G1WH
Isn't it better to use one of the smartphone apps for track day instead? At least it'll include lap times, and if you have an OBD-2 monitor, your engine specs too which a typical dash cam won't capture.

dont know of any android smartphone app that records video at the same time as laptimes...most i see on internet are video and laptime recorded using separate devices.

i use racechrono for lap times.
and im on OBD1
I've looked at Harry's Laptimer before and it records video as well as GPS/lap time and OBD2 although I use it on the iPhone only. There's an Android version too. Haven't been on track for awhile though since I sold the BMW...

anyway... ive read comparisons between racechrono and harrys and supposedly racechrono is a wee bit more accurate... n less crap to deal with or something like that.
theres also another app that can detect g forces and all that... but i cant remember the name...if not mistaken its trackmaster
i dont really mind though coz its more for personal use....too n00b to be posting much online ahahha
fixed the youtube for u.
EDIT: oh... n forgot to mention....finding a mount for the phone to record video WITHOUT the damn thing shaking all over the place is pretty hard... ive tried about 4-5 different mounts and all are crap and shakes like hell.... which is why i decided to get a DVR instead...unless u got any recommendation for mounts? (with links)
EDIT: just took a peek at the harrys laptimer app in the playstore... the version that records videos is RM82.... quite pricey for an app... but worth considering though.

Oh yes, finding a mount is hard. I've gone through a few myself, anything that's using cheap suction cup will basically rattle or fall all over the place for sure. Can't really recommend anything sorry, everything's failed me too
hmm, tempted, rm300 full track, you going for that session?
if no pit ok ke? or you renting pit with your buddies?
i'm interested in the full track, not partial as i experienced partial (iinm also south)
yeah 300 full track.
dunno about pit... not sure wanna rent or not... but if no pit then dunno where to put spare tire etc....unless someone brings a car and doesnt enter, can use the car for storage.

aiyoyoyo... baru keluar sudah crash? wat the happening?
RCS eh? id personally go with F Tuned though
too fast and too stupid lol. can't make it to exit (too fast, speeding past) still stubbornly want to go
well RCS not much expensive than f tuned, and i want road comfort. no adjustable in the market can guarantee that except for RCS (well, they aren't even adjustable also, can't adjust anything lol) hence my choice lo lol
=edit= oh ya the video is 2 days after my crash so as you can see, it isn't all too bad la... can bring over 200kph also

Ftuned about RM3k? RCS about RM5k? banyak tu woi! hahhaha
but yeah... thats one thing i dont quite like about RCS and Titan... ur pretty much limited to high low adjustability only... no soft hard. i personally like to adjust the stiffness as and when i like and not have to go back there and get them to open up the abs and revalve bla bla bla... and somemore have to pay after a cetain period.

let's just say a group of us managed to negotiate RCS to just barely over 3k. what do you say about that then? no brainer?
also, for the RCS we getting, you don't even get high low adjustability! LOL! that said, there's the 2/3 way motorsport series from RCS that can tune rebound/compression, but that cost over 10k

yeah...no brainer...FTuned is the choice
no adjustability and at THAT price? still damn expensive man...
but i guess depends on ur priorities la... but id still go with Ftuned street spec (which is cheaper than the road/track spec) and set to softest for daily drives....track days kasi max.
thats what im doing with my TEIN Flex now...still very comfy on softest settings....and last track day i forgot to adjust it to max...so hentam soft oso still performed pretty decent.

well my priorities are on daily driving too since i don't go track daily and i do stand firm on no adjustables in the market can provide daily road comfort until someone wanna prove me otherwise lol
btw where do you mount in car if you want to see your gear knob and rpm/kph meter clusters?

never done that before... gotta take my G1WH and see wat options i have....so far all on front windscreen only
also have to take into account for charging cable since the G1WH battery only lasts a few minutes....dont know if using a USB extension will work or not
the long cable that came with the DVR has been permanently fitted into my other car

well SJ4000 battery does last... but i just can't seem to find a right angle that can capture both rpm and kph together
I don't wanna buy a cheap one and then find out that it doesn't work under certain conditions like overheat or prolong usage.
get the G1WH from foxoffer.com ... most of the cameras on lazada looks like crap... but the more expensive ones unknown
the G1WH at least is proven... i own one... prolong usage? no problem... ive driven for over an hour with the dvr running in the hot sun with no problems
overheat? my car was under the sun for 3-4 hours n it still works like normal. take note that my cars have NO tinting whatsoever.
got a few lol. the other one racing with aventador on highway...
but this thing is stupidly expensive lol...
500$ is expensive ?
IT does not just video record.
When you accidentally cut into another lane , it will notify you .
It has speed indicators when you pass one and will tell you the speed limit
It has gps built in
Prompt the driver when he deviates from his lane or getting too close with the front vehicle to ensure safe driving. Tell you if there is a speed camera nearby
Its like buying car tint , you like lousy fake tint and go buy it to save money or buy raytech with more features and proven

same logic
. The other day I saw harvey normal selling about 700++
imagine someone just smash your car and steal the unit.
mine is around RM200. quality sometimes can be but at least when i left it in the car, it doesnt draw any attention.
for me buying this is totally different from buying a tint.
Lol security tint even easier to pecah if parked by the roadside. Just pry from the side of the window, the window will fall flat on the ground in 1 piece, minimise the thief's risk as well as the window does not shatter to pieces
Between Papago P2Pro and Garmin GDR33 which one would you guys recommend?
my mom bought a GS608 china-ciplak recorder without consulting me, the recording quality is like shit......1080p feels like 480p and low light cant see at all
Hi I would like to ask a general question. Most dashboard cams uses the ciggy lighter socket in order to get power to the camera. However, in my car, I only have 1 ciggy lighter socket which I use for GPS and USB powered phone charger, hence no space for another socket. Is there a way for me to integrate the dashboard cam without using the ciggy lighter socket? Can I get some advise on how can it be done (or where)?

go to any car accessories shop.. ask them for multiple car charger adapter
The new p2pro now comes with the 3m sticker instead of normal suction based sticker.
the only problem i face with the 3m sticker is that, it will be really hard to remove after few years under the sun.
and the booklet comes with the p2pro mention do not stick on tinted glass for risk of damaging the tint. lol. is there any car in m'sia that have untinted windscreen still?
I know it's shock proof and weather proof, so more suitable for bikes but what if we use for cars?
Still we need to manually capture everytime we start engine right. Is there any dashcam where it auto records everytime we start our engine?
the go pro is an "action cam"...not really a dashcam... but if u want something similar... checkout SJ4000 reviews on youtube... its an action cam with dashcam features and very good video quality....at roughly 1/3 the price..theres also video comparisons between SJ4000 n the go pro
with the dashcam features the auto record thing will be enabled.... ull have to buy the car suction mount separately though as it doesnt come with it in the box...
another downside... if u leave it in the car... people (especially unscrupulous ones) see... they think its a go pro... they break a window...bye bye SJ4000

and the booklet comes with the p2pro mention do not stick on tinted glass for risk of damaging the tint. lol. is there any car in m'sia that have untinted windscreen still?
yes. mine. only the top got black tint. cheapskate owner says no need to tint front screen because i'm the one suffering... especially hot days
Just be prepared to replace the tint whenever you got 3m sticker on it.
i wanted to try to get dashboard mount but it seems the m'sia distributor does not carry it, or can't find it in ebay or anywhere else. strange it is mentioned in the booklet.

looks like the G1W.... if it really is the G1W rebranded/renamed.. then id say its a very good buy
my G1WH also has the same look/dimensions... hides behind my avanza mirror pretty decently.

i call this bollocks.
I've bought 2 DVR with GPS before, no issues, both different model.
summoning quazacolt and mADmAN
mine no GPS... but i do agree with bollocks... very unlikely to happen
oh... n for those who are interested... my May 18th track day video taken with G1WH can be viewed HERE ... managed to catch some interesting moments like a spinning RX7... a massively understeering Preve.. my own understeer to the point the car was shaking (and i lost a mudguard liner about 3 corners after that)

lol that preve, i think his brakes/tires gone case already? most likely ESP kicked in and triggered the emergency signals too?

mind to point out at what time does said events happen? Video very panjang
mind to point out at what time does said events happen? Video very panjang well not much reviews online but looking at the specs seems decent. Up to you to decide. I thought ESC activates eventhough it is turned off after a certain speed?
o_O? i didn't know that.
i know mitsubishi's ASC when it's off, it's off until you restart the car, or turn it back on again, or i guess if you crash the damn car for it to even matter

'Even with the ESC set to off, the system will turn itself on once the speed goes past 150 km/h and when you brake, and will turn itself off once again when you you drive below said speed and off the brakes.'
Been reading all the comments (yes i looked thru 20 pages lol but a few each day), and decided i may want to get a G1WH although i did plan to get a G1W initially..
I think foxoffer is the place to get genuine dvrs, but may I know how long does the camera take to arrive?
Anyone heard of this site? I read they sell genuine dvrs too but...not so sure... In the end i guess the postage time will be one of the factors to my decision which site to buy..
Would appreciate any feedback
Cheers

ooo awesome thanks for the reply
so far out of 10, what would you rate the camera as? I understand you don't use it often and want a SJ4000 lol but could I leave it in the car without being detected by the outside or get overheated by the sun?
speaking of sun...does the recording dim to dark if the sun is too bright?
P/S: it doesn't have IR night lights right? but i think it does quite well at night..

i love it...rate it maybe at a 7 or 8... even used it for my track days... but most of the time its in my MPV instead of my toy car...nowadays i use it daily and its pretty good...pracitcally permanently in my MPV already...for track days i remove it and use a phone in car charger...leaving the original charger in the MPV.... for ur query about the sun... i posted a video of it somewhere in this thread.. day n night time... have a look n see.
good that it doesnt have those IR lights.. those r pretty useless....
only reason i want an SJ4000 is for track days... i can have more mounting areas/points and mouting options...
and possibly stick it on my helmet for my daily ride to work.... the SJ4000 has the mounts for that as well as the battery life.
hi guys. the thread is too long and I admit I didnt read all the posts. But if I'm trying to get a recorder that is rm300 range, which is the best buy? my requirements are: - wide angle - can record even when car is OFF (example in car park the car reversed into my car) - decent quality for insurance claims (able to see reg. numbers clearly)
Hi, Is Tronsmart GS9000 GPS build in or need to connect to other GPS devices ? Thanks.

within ur budget... G1WH...can get with 32gb card from foxoffer.com.
-yes wide angle -u want it to continuously record non stop even when car is off? dont think any DVRs can do that... unless u do special direct to battery wiring....coz when u off ur car.. ur ciggie lighter port is also off... and this mod will drain ur battery...there is a motion sensor... but imho thats useless....DVR batteries typically doesnt last long at all... coz they are mainly meant to be used with the charger continuously. -yup..able to see clearly when recorded at 1080p.

thanks MadMan. In fact, I was looking at this model! Thanks for explaining that the buit-in battery doesnt last long for recording when the car is OFF. I thought the cam only "wakes up" if motion/vibration is sensed? Been trying to make sense of the poor english on the advertisements for G1WH and not sure what they mean on the "car parked" part. Anyone has this device and could kindly confirm this?
So foxoffer.com is the only place we can buy this cam?

u can check on youtube on how to hide the wires... i basically followed that.

While browsing about car-dash-cams, i saw this clever guy route the wire around the edges of the roof (inside) follow down along the pillar and then enter below the dashboard all the way til the cigarette outlet.

oh cool seems to be quite highly rated then lol..ok i'll get this model then...yeah i tried one with IR lights, sucks and was fake anyway so managed to return it (had to have good arguments) and now waiting for refund..
did u pay with USD? i played around the currency and found RMB to be cheapest after conversion..so if i checkout via RMB does it mean my ringgit changes to RMB? lol sorry a bit noob, been a while since i used paypal to pay other currency
anyway thanks will check out your video again, i did look at it before but skipped to the night view

thx madman for the recommendation of GW1H. tested it during day and night and the results are fantastic. now i hope that it can withstand the heat of the Malaysian weather.
for people who are looking for a cam for less than Rm200. grab this from FoxOffer.com and receive it in less than 2 weeks
UPDATE: i tried to play the videos on my laptop today at 1080P and find that the images are somewhat blurry (see attached photo)
any idea what happened or is there any settings that could be done to fix this?

ooo...madman should get some compensation from foxoffer for suggesting it to us to buy from there haha
hmm but ur pic..did it just happened recently? maybe madman has the answer XD
Anyway, how does these cams work? - do they auto start and began recording as soon as the car ignition is turned ON? - does it automatically save, or only when we wish to save; or after motion sensor detected an accident? - is it hard to delete the most recent (last) recording?
Just ordered an A118. Love the wide angle lens and the discreet design

my camera lens protector is still on...video is ok....
bananadriver yes auto saves..depending on the loop length u want...google for the review of ur cam n they will usually go through the menu no
regarding the 1 min, 3 min, 5 min looping thing. what does that mean? I checked the spec on the A118 which I ordered, the specs didnt mention this at all???

determines the video length for each video. example. your journey takes up to 30 mins. the DVR will split this 30 min video into 10 videos if u set the recording loop to 3 mins.
It is easy for you to search for a specific scene and for the came to overwrite the files when the SD card is full

I ordered the A118 simply for the design as it looked more discreet compared to the popular GW1H model. Price is slightly more expensive too but oh I guess I'll try my luck. havent arrive yet. Just placed order yesterday Anyway, the lens are chipset used are similar ones, also I watched the review and sample videos and to my untrained eyes they looked similar in terms of video quality.
This is the A118's design. Look less like a dashcam, right? Hope people wont steal it if they dont notice it.
Thanks for sharing. But i noticed all these videos, specially at night, very hard to see the car number, almost impossible unless really close and slow.
Any better quality cams??

Anyone here tried using the mini 0801 or 0803 before? I find it small to be discreet enough cuz i think nowadays ppl break into your car and steal your cam as well.

Anyone using the G1WH experience crash/hang? I bought it from foxoffer without the optional SD card. Got myself a new transcend class10 32gb, and i have been experiencing crash/hang quite frequently.
Found in ebay that mentioned if crash/distortion happens, its due to the memory card not good enough. And only Kingston 32gb class 10 is recommended.

Are you guys using "Motion Detection". I realize mine crash/hang everytime i use them. After a few iterations of cutoff and restarting the video due to the motion detection.
Btw, do you know what are the "G Sensor" for? The user guide is almost good for nothing

Found my answer to this. Apparently it is used to detect a collision and automatically lock the file.

Yes. Then i guess you won't have my problem since you don't use it. Guess i gotta turn it off as well then, can't complain much when you are paying so less

I'm using the A118 (left-most in the pic above) while mAdMan's recommendation (mini 0803) is the 2nd one from the left. Take your pick!
Got an extra set of G1WH (including rear view mount) from foxoffer to let go. Please PM me if anyone is interested. Selling at cost price of RM190 only.

No budget set 'cos I'm kinda new to this so not quite sure how much would it cost to get a reasonably priced one with features (then also not quite sure what features are good too )

Hi. It is possible for you to continue recording even when the car is off. Refer to this link, its called car camera hardwire kit. For instance this is for 0803 model. Not sure if its compatible with G1WH but i think it might work since it uses the micro usb port from the dvr and connects directly to the car battery. Hope this helps.

im sure it can be done... all u need is a proper power source... but do remember that u need to convert fromm 12v to 5v...
but then again... why would u wanna drain ur car battery?

If you guys wanted to test out dashcams before buying, i suggest you walk into Brother's at Kelana Jaya. That's the only outlet with huge amount of choices... so far.
Last time I went in but didn't have a good look at their dashcams. Will pop-in again this week and have a good look, probably getting a few for my other cars. Hopefully they sell 0803.

I wanted the same thing that you wanted, to continue recording after the car is off. I slowly realize that the battery inside the camera are meant for emergency saving of files in event of accidents, or after we turn off our car electrical system. They are tiny batteries and not meant for off-charge recording. So for this to work, we have to rewire the power source so that power comes directly from the battery to the camera. But remember to use 4v and not the 12v from the battery! Also, this is only a good idea if only you do not leave the car in an off state for too long, bcause the camera, although using only small amount of power, will also slowly drain your car battery!
Oh and by the way, i bought a G1WC with 32gb card from Foxoffer for my mom. Chose the capacitor model as I realised dashcams with built in batteries are utter crap in our crazy hot climate. My own personal G9000 dashcam with built-in battery now sometimes have problem like turning itself off while driving(fixable by removing and inserting the power again), auto-shutdown upon car power off sometimes is not complete(battery capacity degrade) and the battery life fell from 5-10 minutes, to 10-15 seconds from a full charge
Now I wonder is it possible to convert my battery to supercaps
Guys, plan to get myself a in car dvr, but there are few things that I'm not so clear yet...
1. NTK 96650 + AR0330 seems like a good combo base on most review from the net. But what if NTK 96650 + 3mp / 5mp / others, will it affect the performance of the dvr in terms of video quality?
2. Between Novotek and Ambarella, which one is more recommended? Any pro and con?
3. As per foxoffer.com, whats the difference between :
a) Six-Element Sharp Lens b) A+ grade high-resolution wide angle lens
4. Since there are 120/140/170 degree, which one is more recommended?
5. Due to Malaysia hot weather, is it recommend to let the dvr left on the windscreen all the time? (assuming the car is park mostly at outdoor) Will it affect the internal battery?
6. Is the internal battery replacable if there is any defect? Or just leave it there since we can use power from the car charger?
7. My windscreen has about 1/5 tinted with black film, if I place the dvr there, will it affect the outcome during day & night view?
Between these few models, which one is the most recommended one if my budget is below rm300.
If i wanted to install recorder both front and back and have it routed directly to car electrical circuit instead of plugging in socket, is that possible without voiding warranty?
Ok i'll be frank here, ever since i bought the G1W from FoxOffer it wasn't all bells and whistles.
The latest thing that is making me frustrating is the G1W can't stand the heat from our Malaysian afternoon. In the end it crashes or just turned blue the whole screen.
Why am I so sure that our Malaysian sun is the culprit? Coz it was working fine during morning and evening during weekdays when I'm working. Haiz
Anyone with G1W experience the same issue as mine? Think i have to find another spot for it then. Currently it's behind my rear view mirror.
Ok i'll be frank here, ever since i bought the G1W from FoxOffer it wasn't all bells and whistles.

I have the G1WH (essentially the same thing as the G1W, but with a different housing and a wider 140 degree viewing angle). Bought my unit from estore009 on ebay.com.my.
Been using it for a few months now. Mounted behind the rear view mirror too and never remove it. My car is parked under the sun everyday from 8am - 4pm. So far still no problems with heat at all. Even when I'm driving under the hot Malaysian sun during afternoons.
My car is tinted, although I must point out that the tint is very minimal as it is factory fitted with the car. Not sure if that makes any difference

ahh...mine is G1WH as well. Then i guess its the USB cable I'm using is supplying more than 1A. Have to check again then. Thanks for the info.
I bought SJ4000 from foxoffer last month, together with the in car charger and mount. However, i am facing the problem of setting up the in car charger.
The length of the in car charger is too short to follow the edge of the glove comparment, a pillar and to roof to mirror
I ordered an item from FoxOffer this month. I got an email on the 18th saying that my item was shipped, together with a tracking ID supposedly from Singpost. However, when I click the tracking link since that day, it just says "Information received" and nothing else - none of the usual current item location info if it is really trackable... any thoughts?

free/cheap shipping can take ages. it took me weeks (almost a month iinm?) to receive mine.
consider checking singpost time to time and pos malaysia (not poslaju), i can't remember which particular category to check so just check all until it finally gets registered in Malaysian postal system.

Thanks... I ordered on the basis of the feedback in this thread but still cannot shake the feeling of being scammed
No budget set 'cos I'm kinda new to this so not quite sure how much would it cost to get a reasonably priced one with features (then also not quite sure what features are good too ) Mini0803 looks small and good. Will definitely check it out.
Eh.. I bought 1 cam but 3 clips so I can bring and plug in the camera into different cars. HEh... Bought but yet to have it installed. I read that Power source recommended to tap from the stereo for hidden wiring or just use the ciggie lighter / power outlet (12v)

I asked Perodua if I can tap the overhead light .. they wont do it. I dont like wires from ciggie lighter hanging around. some more got kid .. she will have fun with the hanging wire !
anyway .. Cam is there only when I am excited or traveling outstation I connect using lighter port.
Any idea who might be willing to do such wiring or smart job

when u buy a dashcam... itll come with a LONG ciggie lighter socket cable thing... that long cable is meant to be hidden in ur trims...
also...tapping the wires directly will give u 12v yes... but yer dashcam only uses 5v....ull probably endup burning ur dashcam if u dont convert it to 5v....thats what the ciggie lighter socket is for.. in the plug, theres bits n pieces which converts it to 5v....dont believe me? try powering up ur dashcam using ur handphone wall charger.....which only outputs 5v... also ur handphone in car charger.. again 5v. or even using ur PC/Laptop's USB port... again... 5v
i sometimes transfer my G1WH from my family car to my toy car.. the long cable is routed and hidden in the family car... meaning not convenient to take out....so when its in my toy car.. i just use the in car handphone charger...cables dangling yes, but its only for a few hours so no biggie

eh you did not get the SJ4000 car mount for usd10 or something extra?
a LOT of people have been praising on the camera stability despite i still see vibrations etc (our Malaysian rally grade roads so lol) and if compared against my sony Xperia z1 recording (and the original sony mount), the SJ4000 is definitely superior.
i'm also using a very long arm so that it can reach inwards enough to see my meter cluster better. i'll go snap a pic when i'm back at my car late evening or something after i'm done with work.

nope... i didnt get mine from foxoffer...and im not too confident to stick that one outside the car... which is why i got the 9cm cup...supposed to be real strong for outside the car... but the arm is too long
