I have been using iON Air Pro as a dash cam, it is really horrible in low light conditions... will post some vids later.

My GT680W finally arrived today. Got a USB2 card reader as a free gift since I ordered during the CNY holidays.

The camera itself looks a bit on the fragile side if you ask me..
However the picture quality is as good as they say, definitely better than my action camera ION Air Pro. The sound quality is pretty good as well, better than my expectations. My only complain is the battery life; not like I didn't know about it before purchasing the camera... Don't like to see the wires dangling (for the add on GPS module and power).

Had a hard time getting the GPS to work at first... because I was in the basement parking and somehow I didn't realize that I have to go to an open space to get the GPS to align.. am too excited with the new toy after waiting for so long, wasn't thinking straight

nope it won't get taxed because

1. Total cost inclusive of shipping is below RM500 (that's the golden rule to avoid tax on taxable items by the customs but read below..)
2. Cameras are not taxable items (just like computer components/laptops/desktop pc).


I am thinking of using a powerbank to power up my GT680W.. I really don't like the hanging cable from the camera to the cigarette plug, not forgetting the cable for the GPS module.
Is anyone doing this? I wonder if it is safe for the camera? Scared the voltage is different or something and will spoil the camera in the long run.

the cable is indeed long, but I'm horrible at cable management plus I don't like the idea of sticking the cable on my dashboard.
as for the gps module, previously I sorta mount it at the rearview mirror, but sometimes it would take too long to get a signal so I moved it to the windscreen driver side (like roadtax but on the right). will upload some photos later on

oh another thing.. do you guys use the dashcam daily? or for most of your drives?
if yes, do you keep all the videos?
earlier on I use it for every single drive but now I only use it when I feel like it
because I always take out the micro sd card after each trip and unplug everything so it became somewhat a hassle to set them up again for the next drive.. and I find myself 'hoarding' the videos even when there's nothing interesting going on... sometimes it's just a case of "oh the sky is so blue in this video.. I will keep this" LOL
