doesnt the fan come with a controller?
so you can control the speed of the fan and subsequently the noise

I mean if you were to run it at full speed.

hmm...mine shoots up to max of 52C+ without fan. but my casing has very good air flow.

yeah, the silverstone doesnt look promising. if I were to get a high cfm fan, sflex would be my choice.

if we control the speed of the fan, it kinda defeats the purpose of having high CFM + low noise properties of a good fan. laugh.gif i think any fan operating lower than 1200rpm the noise is not audible already. but those CFMs also will be like only around 30-40+ max.

My Ultra-120 Ex runs cool without fan mainly due to the intake of my Lian Li A05 blows cool air directly at it.

I have tested my noctua fan and the Lian Li fan with the Ex. No doubt the Lian Li fan produces more sound but it cools the heatsink better. If i were to place my hand in front my Noctua's intake when its attached to the heatsink, i can feel strong airflow there. While the air coming out tru the heatsink is minimal.

So the Noctua isn't actually good to be used with the hsf, more better as a case fan where restriction is less.

The silverstone pushes a whole lot of air but the noise produced is kind of a turn down.

It's hard to obtain the S-Flex. According to jy14 he could only get on with the bulk with a moq of 10 and a moq of 5 for his 1st bulk.

styloe: yeah, i know that before i bought the CM. haha...but i read somewhere this lovely ultra 120 also works with low cfm fans, albeit the results not so superb. laugh.gif I have other 2 vantec with 1800rpm (62CFM) but i think the noise is too loud. louder than what it stated 31dB i think (same with silverstone stated specs, anyone using silverstone 121 care to clarify?). haha...so far with my clock, the full 100% load temps wont go over 50C. would stay around 40-45C+. shouldn't it be ok?

i wonder what kind of result will i get if i use a higher CFM fan. hmm...sflex looks attrative with the fluid dynamic thingy. 60+CFM with only 28dB!!! sounds promising! but RM80...huhuhu...for a fan (maybe reduce 3-5C?)  hmm.gif maybe next time...

btw, i am controlling the fan speed and monitoring the RPM through CM aerogate.  laugh.gif

I am using Fm-121, the sound level can consider ok lo...as you can control it to the sound level you can accept...and it provide you with 110CFM when full speed...so it is worth it...of course I am not sure whether it really have 110CFM as the spec stated...but should be around that lo... icon_rolleyes.gif

My TR Ultra Ultra-120 Ex doesnt work really well with low pressure fans. Not much of an improvement comparing without fan.

I wouldn't recommend the Silverstone though, unless you wouldn't mind the sound.

Can adjust the controller la...if you want it to be quit, just turn it to slower lo...around 1200 - 1500 rpm should be quiet enuf liao unless u want extremely quiet but I think other hardware also will produce the sound de... icon_rolleyes.gif

Specification for fans are usually exaggerated, i'm not saying all but most of what i had encountered. Take example Noctua fans, theres a note on the packing stating the values of the dba are extrapolated.

Anyway i find this link to be quite imformative.

Noctuas and Xigmatek's HDT are good but certainly not in the same price range like a AC Freezer Pro.

my 1st ever heatsink was AC FreezerPro7 and is still using it in my parents computer, still very proud of owning one!! I'm no hardcore overclocker, so, AC is my choice for quiet setup... the temperature really drop around ~10C as stated in most reviews.... nod.gif

As for my 2nd heatsink for my current rig, i'm thinking of going for xigmatek, but then, i'm not too sure bout the quietness of it... wanna buy and try but then, i dun have the luxury of "trying". so....i'm still looking for something budget...RM120 is not too bad, but xigmatek is still new. Dun dare to spend the money on it yet until more ppl report in how quiet xigmatek is....

It's not too quiet based on review.... so u would have to get a quiet fan to replace it ..... that would add additional cost ....

true...additional fan to replace xigmatek heatsink would cost little more $$....so, that beats the purpose of budget heatsink already. i cant think of any good budget heatsink other than AC Freezer.

Maybe get a hold of a cheapo fan speed controller as if i remember correctly the Xigmatek's fan run at very high speed.

Or how about running with stock heatsink since you don't OC highly and wait for reviews on the Xigmatek. Who knows it might actually beat the AC in terms of performance at a lower speed.

Only my 2 cents worth though, cheers biggrin.gif .

if im not mistaken u can controlled the fan speed using speedfan.well im sure it beats AC even at lower speed since the HDT really works brows.gif

It would definitely beats AC Freezer regardless which setting ...

however with noise issue .. AC fan would runs quieter than Xigmatek stock fan ...

so if a quieter fan used on Xigmatek it add additional cost where any silent fan cost about RM60 ...

In the end AC is still way cheaper that performs at certain level right out of box ...

while Xigmatek cost RM150 itself already and after added with a silent fan .... it's just at different level...
