What is Gunpla?

Gundam Models refers to plastic and non-plastic model kits depicting the mechas, vehicles and characters of the fictional Mobile Suit Gundam universe. These kits have become popular among anime fans and model-lovers, especially in Japan and in other nearby Asian countries since 1980s. The popularity of Gundam models increased in the 1990s with North America and Europe being exposed to Gundam through television, video and manga. These Gundam Models may also be called Gunpla (ガンプラ Ganpura?), a portmanteau of "Gundam plastic model". "Gunpla" more commonly refers to the practice of building Gundam models, rather than the models themselves.

dont think so
if you think size the reason price is cheap

they should better lower the price for another kit
e.g. Loto twin set

We're not getting one. The closest you'll get is RG Strike Freedom. Besides, between October being Proto Zero and December being Sazabi, your wallet will be thankful for the small break.

it's not that it's a bad design, it's that it became a cluster f**k when they put on so many things onto the IWSP.. sleek and slim like Perfect Strike and Destiny is always best whistling.gif

Perfect strike need action base to make it pose-able due to the heavy aile pack. The battery pack even add more weight.

perfect strike can pose with all the weapons in hand and not mounted on the back, which is what weapons are for in the first place, USAGE!! laugh.gif
for this pack, i really really never liked the IWSP.. it's much too bulky and it makes the gundam back heavy, hence it cannot stand without an action base, which is a huge waste of space

Actually Ootori/IWSP pack is more practical, since most of the weapon on the pack can be fired without the need to mount it on the hand whistling.gif

conversion kit or not, doesn't matter. the whole point is gp04 as an actual suit doesn't exist in the context of stardust memory. Its only made reference to, in the story it exist solely on paper nvr made it to production, design was then stolen and made into gerbera tetra for cima garahau. Hoping for a graded kits of gp04 is like hoping for deep striker. not gonna happen.

as for seed focus, well the remaster destiny is currently running. it only make business sense to focus on it to cash in while ppl r still interested. If bandai did not do this can u still imagine ppl interest in seed timeline 5 or 10 years down the line? Unlike uc, au series r forgotten very quickly, especially crappy 1s like ce. Let them release all the seed all they like, u wont c it come back after this for a long long time.

HGUC more likely since they like to cover mobile suit from MSV(e.g. Delta Gundam, Delta Kai)

*
tqvm on the in-depth details of gp04. i did not realize nor knew gp04 'history' as explained. i'll really need to watch that series to understand more about it.

dun put so much hope on it, its not that a good of a series. Featuring the worse female character in all of gundam. the wussiest main character of all time (arguable kio though but tey r equal in my book). Its also littered in inconsistency, as a story bridging 0079 and zeta its doesn't make much sense really. Animation is top notch for its time but other then that its pretty meh.

when new series come and do well, ce will be forgotten. It makes tons of money sure but the fatigue is already showing. Tey can extend it further with BF but beyond that depending on what series tey'll run, possibly back to uc again seeing the success of unicorn. By then ce will b pretty much dead.

female character - agree, i was like.. dafuq?! srsly?
main character - gives some promise initially, then going downhill right when they go to outer space.
i'm impressed with the animation, considering something from 1992.

but couldn't agree about "doesn't make much sense", what i see in 0083 tells the origin of TITANS, and the gundam development in between the amuro's rx-78, and the rx-178 mk2.

timing is right, after i watched recently, GP01 RG arrived at local store, and bought the earth type. WIP at the moment, just finished build the core fighter, including detailing and decals.

u dun need an entire 12 epi ova to tell the rise of titans. We know the feds r a bunch of ******* incompetent corrupt morons from 0079, the transition from that to a faction of racist goons is easy to comprehend. While is nice and all to c, its not really a necessity. Its not like the feds as portray in 0079 r all angels and the transition into titans was so out of left field. Its self explanatory really. Besides the whole titans sthick only appear at the end, so where on earth r there in the beginning of the story if the story itself is being branded as the rise of titans? If this is the case then the story isn't really bout titans at all so what its about really?

as for the dun make sense part:
colony drop north america, zeta north america pretty much intact. In comparison, sydney was turned into a 300miles wide crater from a portion of a colony drop from operation british, yet now an entire colony drop and have practically no effect in zeta???? really????

Hahah though this maybe apply only to hardcore fans. Coz if this really applies to all, both of them won't be in top 10 ranking of Newtype most popular anime character until today (both are in the top 10 of their respective ranking all the way from Seed release until now): http://i.imgur.com/delJd.jpg

That didn't stop them from making a GFF out of it though. Then again, I'd rather have a MG Gerbera Tetra than another Gundam.

not sure abt this coz i never watched 0083..
but based on the evolve ending & according to wikia source above, it's merely under-development, the unit itself never built.
as for model kits, i'm pretty sure bandai will release this kit in the future.. most probably in HGUC with the label "0083 MSV" hmm.gif

edit: abit more of research shows that this MS already released in BB Senshi, GundamWar card game & the discontinued 1/400 scale Gundam Collection trading figures, many years ago.
so yeah, it's all very "canonical" as far as the blueprint of this MS goes. tongue.gif

this is why I like HGUC line more
they cover more on MSV or alternative series like Hazel Custom from Advanced of Zeta, Blue Destiny unit 01 from Mobile Suit Blue Destiny, Zudah from MS Igloo
and also the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt thumbup.gif

maybe because you haven't seen him next to anything else tongue.gif but i think the F91 is looking fantastic.. curious on how they will put the red on the shoulders.. hoping it's plastic underneath, but most likely will be stickers.. might just paint it up then, but overall i'm loving how it looks.. bring on the next all gundam project MS! what i've seen is making me very happy

Why not? I was told by a friend that 'white' gundam need to coat with top coat with UV protector. Or else by time it will turn yellow.

wallace : panel line as i know got a few methods. u can use gundam markers or use the thinner+black enamel paint method. u do this obviously after u airbrush ur model.

pls panel line before top coat. top coat suppose to protect the panel lines.

Looks like the paint didn't dry completely if it 'expanded' (line looks thick).

The gundam panel liner should be easy to wash off even by swiping your thumb 2-3 times.

When I went to GA last week, I saw one cute chick, really cute, browsing through SD. Then angkut like 5 or 6 SD. Then come along his dad, bought MG Geara Doga with GP01 RG. Cute family. Hihi

Well, let get back to gunpla story and discussion. 2 things I wanna ask:

1. Any of u guys ever thought of coloring the eye or psycoframe with the UV marker, the one that shines under UV? Its invisible under normal visible light, but once u shine some UV light on it, wallah! The problem is where to get these UV marker and UV light. I know Mat Kool ice cream give those for free looong ago, I remember playing with it when I was in secondary school.

2. Any idea where to get LED? Just LED, not the whole Gundam LED kit. Wanna make some adjustment to my wing, put some white LED behind its wing for some 'angelic' effect. brows.gif brows.gif

1) never seen on in hobby shops.. tho you can try searching for UV nail polish (yea the ones that girls used to colour their nails with) and it's permanent and waterproof too.

2) electronic shops along jalan pasar.. or any where else (not electrical appliances shop)

I did once for Nu gundam, but I don't know whether you could live with it. I made a 'color band' (stripes) in metallic green to match the psycho frame around the nub marks. It's similar to a car's racing stripe tongue.gif

I usually fold the box flat. Discard the bottom part, and fold the top part flat and I put it inside the plastic file icon_idea.gif

I put the manual also with inside the plastic file. Then I put small sticker tag with the gundam name so I can easily search it later nod.gif

I always keep my boxes just in case in need to pack em up. Or when I got bored and decided to sell them off (Zakus are to be kept though).

Lately after all these years, gotten tired with some kits being exclusives and not getting my hands on them, which shifted my attention to something else (3a mostly tongue.gif)

That, and I have been gettting lazier to assemble nowadays.

Hi guys, new here. I've just started collecting gundams, and I just want to ask a few questions. sweat.gif

What's the difference in details between MG and MB? Are they roughly the same?

I've got this fettish for detailed gundam models, but PGs are too big to collect a lot, might get a few but not much, so I guess it's either MG or MB for me. But I must say MB looks far more impressive then MG, but the variation is lesser too, you don't get much choice. I was hoping for more, but now I've only got MB Destiny on pre-order and MB 00 Raiser shipping to me.

Any chance Bandai will expand their MB series? Cause I just want to choose between MG and MB, and stick to it all the way. Thanks. smile.gif

Metal Build are not model kits, they're 1/100 scale action figures with metal in them(and also cost 200 dollars). Don't rely on Metal Build to replace Master Grade.

Hmmm, but that doesn't reply my question. Which one is more detailed? wink.gif

I'm planning to collect MBs, and build up a few PGs.

Hello there, I recognized your username from other threads, welcome.

If dough is not a problem, MB is the way to go. MG offer many more choices, in terms of availability and also customization (100+ choices and you wouldn't be customizing a well build MB I suppose).

But most of the time, people would stay away from MB due to the price and choice. So in this case, if you fancy details, go for RG. Be warned though, some RG are quite fragile and delicate since the size is smaller than MG but offer plenty of parts. If you have ever build any Gunpla before, you will quickly be familiar with MG, but you will need to pay more attention on RG's instructions to avoid mistakenly cutting some small but crucial part/s.

MB= Metal Build. Expensive. Nice. Heavy. IMO, no satisfaction.
MG= Master Grade. Price so-so. Nice. Full of satisfaction. Plus, u got Ka version in this grade. Nu Ver Ka and Sinanju Ver Ka is like the best Gundam to build, ever!

For me, MB is ok if u are collector. Buy, keep it MISB, and later if need cash, can sell it. But for full Gundam satisfaction, just get MG. Build it from your heart. And if u are done with building it, and bored loking at it, just re-paint it. And u will get addicted to it again.

About the boxes, I have half a mind to cut out the artwork and frame it. Make wall of fame. But then, sayang lor to cut the boxes. I love seeing it pile up in my room. It gives me 'Gundam Shop' look.

and they will only make main suits of series only

the-0 box has bigger volume but r weight less then ex-s actually, kinda weird. perfect zeong no comparision it wins by a mile.. So as for which is bigger between ex-s and the-o, what r u gonna look at? thickness? wideness? Technically both r meaningless, i look at the weight more then the size. ex-s is heavier means it has more plastic it means if u try to stuff ex-s runners into the-o box it'll overflow so ex-s box is technically bigger in that sense.

don't forget it's GFT exclusive, therefore the price will be increased greatly, be it local seller or someone from japan picking it up for you, shipping won't be cheap, and shops might just sell even more expensive, actually.. to buy or not to buy hmm.gif

I think most of us have noticed that the exclusives out there are kits that may not sell well if they were mass produced and available all the time.

Imagine if bandai said the sinanju is an exclusive. Will only benefit the resellers and not bandai themselves. Where possible, buy for the beauty.

almost everything has better plastic to $$$ ratio compared to the-o. There just isn't any legit reason to price that at 12000 yen when other bigger kit has more plastic yet cost much less. Its not even very modern from the engineering aspect, feels old when compare to other kits releases that year. It didn't even include enuf effect parts for all its beam saber. doh.gif

Its just a badly price item, if it were say 7000 - 8000 yen like ex-s and the like it'll sold more with much less disappointment.

Wing gundam needs wing for its birds mode atmosphere flight.

Wing zero custom wing contains thruster and allow unassisted atmosphere entry.

Deathcyte wing has cloaking ability

And so on..... But the main point is, they look cool. Like super hero and their cape. Haha.

Btw, the most practical shape in space sphere.

bingo we hav a winner!!!!!!!

the main thing of this is model kit sales, not how practical or how real or how much it adhere to the laws of physics. Its all fiction, granted some aspects do adhere to real law of physics mobile suits aint 1 of em.

What Bandai want is sales and what we consumer want is cool looking badass design that we want to display on our shelves. if everything is to be practical it'll all be limbless, non humanoid, white/black colored thingy that pew pew undodgeable lazer beam of light. pilot inside would hav died either through pew pew lazer or cosmic radiation overdose. All battles would be over in under 5s. Not a very enthralling show dont u think?

sphere is the most structure sound geometry, if u wan to build things that last and can take a tons of beating sphere is what u wan. Also why need attachment? internal weapons eliminated the needs of attachment. Most weapons these days r projectile base, everything is pretty much similar except for its warhead. If modern fighter jets can hav internal bays for so too can a fictitious practical space faring machine of doom.

also multipurpose war machines depends on its weapon load capability, not its shape or thruster or anything else. If that said machine can be equip for bombing, assault, long range, short range, etc nobody cares if it shape like a polar bear or have a million thruster sticking out everywhere.

The number of weapon (internal or external) you could fit on humanoid/multi-limb structure is greater than no-limb structure (like sphere), since the you have more surface area

why the needs for tons of weapon per unit? Despite no gravity there is still mass, the higher the mass the more difficult it is to move around in space. Keep it light and simple not much moving parts cut cost down, make tons of unit with just 1 or 2 type of weapon each. In real life warfare, numbers will almost always win.

also with limb base weapon, how r u gonna b effective if ur enemy blows off ur limb? u cant fire back then. We design weapons operated with limb cus biologically we hav limb, why restrict machine with such limitation? The more moving parts u hav the more complex it is the more things it could potentially fail. The reason why the russian soyuz space craft has good operational record was cuz its simple, space shuttle was plague with tons of problem and cost a bomb to maintain. Soyuz is still here, while shuttle is dead.

agree, but ihave to admit it, that the creator (no religional purposes) creates us with the best engineering, so, why don't we replicate it? Some scientist have tried to replicate things (biomimethic) from animals, like silent turbines from whale fins, adhesive material from 'cicak', kevlar from spider webs, etc, so, i think it's still reasonable to make some humanoids unit, i know it's expensive, but when we are able to mass produce it, it will be cheaper, but if we used them , it would make the enemies kinda scared ( if they don't have it), it would give benefits for us (psychological war) (imagine a 20 meter giant standing in front of you), only my 2 cents smile.gif

k, gonna buy blu tack later
yea, i almost forget about the leg. They are tight, esp. the feet. i tried to spread the leg and cannot move the feet, scared of breaking things.
turned out they're just too stiff, remove the ankle guard (is that what y'all called it), put some force onto it then now can twist the feet already.

dalong's not that perfect either, the hatch

Yes exactly. That hatch. At first I thought it was my mistake. Hmm. And IMO, I prefer if the Gundam itself does not need the corefighter as the internal part. Like RX78, u can choose either to mount the corefighter inside or not. But for this GP01, it is compulsory for the corefighter to be part of the Gundam.

assembled the RG gp01, only shield left
- the cockpit hatch doesn't fit properly between the upper one and the lower one
- waist kinda loose
- the yellow thing that need to switch places on the core fighter is very loose, easily come off

my 2nd RG, still, mk2 feels more solid hmm.gif

Yea, but I enjoy appying the stickers though. Don't have enough guts to apply 3rd party water decal coz I never use water decal before.
I never did panel lining for mk2 titan though. Coz malas, and it does not appeal much. Unless I can make some panel lining with white marker. brows.gif brows.gif

Nobody is saying that Big Zam isn't awesome, but I don't think anyone would want Big Zam to become the "norm" for Gundam design. Zam and the other Mobile Armors work because they're basically giant monsters that our "human" heroes(Gundams) have to defeat despite being at a huge disadvantage.

The movie will be as short as the trailer laugh.gif

In the end, it all comes down to the target audience. We all love robots, be it fancy as **** or boring as watching the paint dries. But hey, they give us that. Some science here and there to add in some theories (for study purpose I presume tongue.gif) and to make it more interesting, and you got yourself something to drool on biggrin.gif

doh.gif this is anime, a fictitious anime with pseudo physics way beyond real world physics. Its not a problem of time, its a problem of fundamental of physics. Giv it up, stop trying to justify it in the real world it doesn't work.

U can giv all the excuses u like the fact remains its beyond the laws of physics, and a basic law at that. There is a reason why its called the law, and no its not something u can change just to suit ur taste, its not something u can alters the number as u like just to fit ur equations, its science law not judicial law. If u dun understand what science law is go read up its definition. If u think u can defy the laws of physics then clearly no amount of science and logic will ever get to u and there is no longer any needs for further discussion cuz everything that i've said has fallen on deaf ears.

This will be my last reply of this topic from me, i've lay out all the impossibilities down to the fundamental of physics itself. If u still think otherwise then there is really nothing more i can do other then advice u dun cloud fiction with reality, enjoy it as a form of entertainment and nothing more.

thats it, end. now lets get back on topic.

it's Hi-Nu itself la, the designated model number for Hi-Nu is RX-93-𝜈2(it's not V, it's actually the symbol of nu)

no wonder.... cuz it looks like a V la hahah

Actually it was myself, but at that time I was hunting Nu ver. Ka . It never occurred to me to get the 3.0, but after  came back,  regrets set in doh.gif

Is it? They ran out of grandad? Dang I was saving money to get that. Waiting till the end of the month for me to get my hands on it. doh.gif doh.gif

Anyway done with my GP01. My reviews:
1. The shield does not mount properly. Kinda lose, easy to fall. Blu-tack might fix this.
2. Legs to tight. Hard to pose.
3. The back cover (the one use to cover the core fighter always comes out. Again, blu-tack to the rescue.
4. Waist kinda lose.

Overall not a bad kit, not the best in its line either.

well, if part loose you can fix it with putty and some sanding
about no 2, it is common sense to loosen the pre-assemble inner frame joint first to avoid break part

That would also involve a 2.0 Freedom Gundam, since that's WAY more detailed than the current model.

It would look cool if it wasn't the HG Freedom. If I want those two songs that badly, i'll just download them off the internet and not have to buy a shitty model.

i wish it was the RG Freedom as well, the color palette just hits the right spots, and in any case, if u DO want to support the authors, there are albums without the shitty HG model on sale too
but back to the model, i feel it's an interesting clear look to Freedom, but like i said, RG would definitely sell (but also increase the price ten-fold)

we need other MS that never been to MG release not the existing one
e.g Stargazer,X,DX,V2-V2 Assault Buster etc

plus many Freedom fans got the detailed kit already(RG Freedom)
and its Seed Destiny Remaster that airing right now so kinda late already for the hype lol

I would be happy with either one of them... Frankly I would want it to be in RG line. Think about it, we already got the Freedom and Justice, and we lack the big bad. In Destiny, we already got the big bad (depending on how you look at Destiny, to me, it's anti-villain), and SF is confirmed while ∞ Justice is likely tongue.gif

not gonna happen X is not very popular although its a good show, it was shafted by Bandai during its run for some reason. If its titular suit doesn't even get a chance to see the light of day then what r the chances of sub designs? Not to mention it needs a series like build fighter to revive the interest in general fans (and even then its the main suits not supporting characters suits), by virtue of the X series itself it doesn't have enough selling power and Bandai's not gonna do something that doesn't sell well. There r plenty of other designs waiting to be MG-fied and r confirm to be big seller. Even series that r well receive like Wing required a running manga to kickstart W models, X that had been dead for over 10+ years?

Considering Exia is a very lean MS, I think we should have at least Avalanche Exia. Exia (even with the 7S) doesn't justify the normal RG price range tongue.gif

as much as it hurts to say it, i do agree, but i like that gundam BF is giving a fresh look to X.. i'm digging the Maoh and i thank bandai for looking back to such a lesser known series and redesigning the MS to look pretty darn good.. the All MS project is also a very welcome addition to me.. although i think eventually they'll get MGs.. after all, they have to run out of things to MG-fy eventually laugh.gif

not gonna happen X is not very popular although its a good show, it was shafted by Bandai during its run for some reason. Even series that r well receive like Wing required a running manga to kickstart W models, X that had been dead for over 10+ years?

but it still possible right? if they release the RM version of the anime? hehehe.
imho, X series mecha is quite a badass compared to AGE series.

Maybe RG with led? And use spring for Auto deploy the sword gimmick.. Hehe

how about no?
we need other MS that never been to MG release not the existing one
e.g Stargazer,X,DX,V2-V2 Assault Buster etc

plus many Freedom fans got the detailed kit already(RG Freedom)
and its Seed Destiny Remaster that airing right now so kinda late already for the hype lol
*
Hahaha! I wanted a bigger freedom that's more detailed coz my MG is an expo edition n d waist joint is weak tongue.gif
I also wanted Strike Noir RM if possible tongue.gif Not a gundam X n V fan though must admit that gundam X received poorest treatment by Bandai, think the only series without a MG sweat.gif Even the UGLY Turn A has MG doh.gif

X has one of the lowest ratings of a Gundam franchise, i dunno if age surpass it or not but its at the bottom 3 for sure. How committed r Bandai in supporting an old series that has bad ratings? Regardless if it was any good or not the fact remains it was not well receive, got cut short and rushed the ending. If Bandai run out of idea then mayb (a big mayb) but so long as there is new stuff coming out and more UC stuff, X will probably be forgotten and abandon.

I appreciated Turn A more once I built the Master Grade of it.

As for Master Grade kits that are long overdue, i'm gonna throw out that there needs to be more lead villain suits. MG Turn X I think is long overdue and would be an awesome mobile suit to get the MG treatment. We definitely also need a MG Reborns Gundam. For as garbage as AGE is, I would still not say no to a MG Legilis Gundam, cause I do appreciate its unique design.

turn a top 3 hmm.gif interesting. Surprise no zaku in top 10....

when sazabi ver ka is out it'll overtake ex-s for sure, mayb even surpass nu seeing as there is tons of char/zeon fanbois in japan.

from what has been released on Sazabi ver ka, i feel it's quite underwhelming considering that huge december release last year.. but it's still a prototype and i'm eagerly waiting to see what they can do to top what is undoubtedly the best model kit i have ever had the pleasure of assembling laugh.gif

more will be revealed in next month All Japan Model & Hobby Show. What we've seen so far is really really rough prototype, i doubt Bandai will screw up one of the most famous, most popular, most iconic design of all time. Especially on the looks department hardly any new releases for the past several years that look bad, bad engineering yeah sure but bad looks hardly any.

though i'm surprised bandai would show us such an underwhelming prototype.. if it were up to me, i'd ride the hype until i got the kit looking more finished, at least in terms of sculpting..

i've never known bandai to listen to fans tongue.gif so don't tell me they released that prototypes because fans were crying out for it?

from what i can gather, fans on the p-bandai website? i'm also wondering why sinanju is not there, which is quite ridiculous.. it really is a great kit, well worth the price.. i'd place him at no.2 tongue.gif think he's the 2nd most enjoyable build.. only up till the decals though, then he becomes a PITA

I see, I too agree that Sinanju should have been rated higher, if not #2, at least within top 5.

Ikano Power Center (IPC). Or you may be more familiar with Ikea or The Curve there. 7-13 October.

Straight build can be considered cheap, but if you're going extreme, the cost of other materials and tools far exceed the price of the Gunpla laugh.gif

I don't really mind the price (but not more expensive of course), I'm hoping to see more variety of items, like online exclusive items, t-shirts, accessories and more drool.gif
