QUOTE(corad @ Oct 30 2022, 10:04 PM) thanks, so skip Synology's branded HDD ? read somewhere that these are Toshiba OEM. Compare to previous WD red, Ironwollf is abit noisy. Between Seagate Ironwolf and WD Red, read that Ironwolf is really noisy ? The Synology will be in the same office as me, so the quieter the better But if just 2HDD NAS, that not so notice. |

Hi guys
I'm not sure how come I havent discovered this thread. My bad. I am running an old synology 212J that is frankly very very long in the tooth. It does its job as NAS but Download station is kinda hard to access especially from my phone, when i want to add a torrent etc. Mostly all the packages work very slowly on this. I'd like to get a new one but RM1000 ish seems like very expensive. And I'm not sure if it performs any better. For the same money I'm thinking of DIY with an Old desktop or used Intel NUC with 2 Sata. (I don't think I will really need more than 2 bays). I use Google drive team drive and One drive 365 for 1TB cloud backups. The NAS is mainly as a 4k/1080p fileserver for 2 HTPC's. Other than that I also use it to store my windows / htpc / backups and images. Lastly I have a rather big collection of video and photos from my phone and drone that if possible I want to directly edit via Lightroom. |

For example:- https://shopee.com.my/(Refurbished)-Dell-Wy...58-8f69a48fe836 would be better to use old computer parts or get a proper NAS system. |

Synology officially support using nvme as storage pool! But as of right now only the newly released DS923+ support it. Here's hoping DS1522+ which have same CPU will also be supported. |

Today receive update for Synology Drive app on my phone, I thought just some bugs fixes but decided to check the update logs. Synology added support for creating and editing Synology Office documents and spreadsheet! Finally now can edit word documents and spreadsheet directly from my phone. Before this on phone's web browser also can edit but doesn't feel smooth, it feels laggy or slow. Gonna try it out and update on my DS1522+ review. The update also added one way sync function, can download from NAS only or upload to NAS only. Also got few more functions added to the app. The updated app version is 3..2.0-795 ![]() WaNaWe900 liked this post

And seems unlikely older model will support NVME as storage. Maybe this is only experiment by them. |

There seem to be a bug in recent update for Synology apps. Yesterday it prompt for update of Node JS12, Node JS16 and Universal Search. Updating it will stop Drive. But after updated Drive can't start back, even manually pressing the Run button won't able to start back Drive. I have to open Drive Admin app and allow some permission to remove the red X mark and then manually pressing the Run button will start back Drive.

Hi guys
I just discovered this tread I am planning to buy synology previously, but after research I think better if i do DIY style (buy second had used PC and install TrueNas) And I require good enough processor and at same time energy efficient What do you think about i3 4160? is it ok? Planning to use it as my home Plex server & media storage |

QUOTE(myroy @ Jan 25 2023, 09:43 AM) Hi guys Yup. i3 is more than enough. You will need at least i3-10100 for streaming server though. 4 cores is minimum requirements.I just discovered this tread I am planning to buy synology previously, but after research I think better if i do DIY style (buy second had used PC and install TrueNas) And I require good enough processor and at same time energy efficient What do you think about i3 4160? is it ok?
