Why using the PCIE SATA card is not a good idea? Don't have a custom built one so I am curious why.

Don't have a custom built one so I am curious why. https://unraid-guides.com/2020/12/07/dont-e...ds-with-unraid/stability, and slow read & write speed, especially those running on pcie 1.0 x1 speed. not only this website, same consensus on unraid forum as well which is avoid pcie sata card in general.

Ah, my motherboard has 6 data slots so I don't have to think about that until I need more drives, do have 2 more spare drives but I just keep as cold storage for now. Also thinking of upgrading to 12900 when Linux supports the iGPU for Plex transcoding.

My APC UPS suddenly dead, not sure what reason. Board fried probably, got some burnt smell.
Anyway, got Rightpower F800P as replacement. The USB data can work with my Synology NAS. Can monitor the battery % and send signal to turn off the UPS.

QUOTE(OlgaC4 @ Sep 20 2022, 12:33 PM) 3persons. 2tb. Not IT support but myself got good knowledge in computer. DS220+ for the bare minimum 2 bays. 2 cores 2 threads. If next time want faster processing or more bays, have to buy new NAS. DS720+ also 2 bays but better CPU, 4 cores 4 threads. If want additional bays can buy expansion bay (1.5k for 4 bays). DS920+ same CPU with DS720+ but additional 2 bays. Also can add expansion bay. DS1522+ the latest. 5 bays. Better CPU Don't look for J series, that one CPU too weak and limited compatibility with many apps

QUOTE(OlgaC4 @ Sep 22 2022, 11:25 AM) Boss for hard disk which one good to use? NAS usage HDD from Seagate / Toshiba / WD or even Synology brand HDD Seagate and WD have normal NAS HDD & Pro NAS HDD. Beware of SMR type HDD. So far that I know only WD put SMR HDD on NAS lineup. You should also check which type of RAID you want to use for protection of your current data. RAID 1/5/6/10 Each have their advantage and disadvantage. Also remember that RAID is not backup.
