Finally settled for below items

1. DS1621xs+
2. 8+8GB DDR4 ECC SODIMM
3. IronWolf 4TB x3
4. SSD Cache HP 500gb x2
5. APC Back-UPS BX950U-MS 950VA

Maybe tomorrow can receive it and start exploring the NAS world and may come with weird

Hopefully this can last for coming 5 years

btw... can I add 2 old 512GB 2.5" SSD on top of the IronWolf as storage or better separate volume as backup

really nooo ... maybe 1st round on the unit then in few years time can just add hdd great will do as separate backup volume

Guess almost complete the initial setup... I had created;

1. Storage Pool 1 (from all 3 disk in RAID-5)
- Later plan to add another pool from old small SSD as backup if workable

2. Volume 1, Volume 2 & Volume 3
- Guess I should wait for the verification complete before start populate the space is it
- or should I just use 1 volume read below by "xxboxx" but really blur now

3. SSD Cache 1 for Volume 1
- Just cannot create another Cache for Volume 2 & 3...
- or I should create only 1 volume and assign 1 cache

4. Do I need to perform Data Scrubbing after verification completed?

5. Saw that "Hot-swappable drive = Yes"... Is this means I can put new drive (HDD/SSD) in the empty bay while the power still on? is it wise & ok to do that

That one maybe because of DSM version but still need to create Storage Pool 1st, select drive (3 hdd) & set RAID-5

Yes then to create Volume need to select Storage Pool






Then I create folder.. just curious, if we do backup later using Storage Pool or Volume



but now the Verification at 99.2%... Now thinking of delete Storage Pool 2 & 3 and just use 1 so that SSD Cache no issues;

ar so it works like that... no sweat had change to 1 Storage Pool for all drives eddy maybe another Storage Pool when adding later.

yet self prefer several pool with manageable size rather than too many Volume folders

still waiting scrubbing to finish before start populate storage another 35% to go

Waaa kinda not bad direct Map Network Drive and transfer files does goe over 100 MB/s

yes got 1 but my AC-86U not gonna reach it.. guess 100GB in below 20 min acceptable eddy, even better than some flash drive



don wan compare with SSD via Type-C/thunderbolts of course

Drive temperature look's good but the cache SSD bit high should I be worried

I had transfer movies to the "Video" folder and last night try play from my TV... only that it show another movie subtitles I dun know what happened, the movie MP4 video format and subtitle *.srt format.. if using normal ssd plug at my tv no such problems

yes the subtitle using the same name as the intended video, the one I play is different name but in the same folder... huhuhu that's weird is it

Yes the subtitle for movie A, played movie D but subtitle A appear 😅😅😅.. I will try play movie A and see what coming out ✌

Friend of mine suggest that I should have a hub connection between the NAS and Desktop...

The Hub will be connected to the Router for internet

Will these change any setting that I had already set such as QuickConnect
