but you still can have plenty of choices with price cheaper than rm300 in the 'Home Electronics & Homewares' section.

DSM works very well with Apple products.

File is accessed via SMB or Mac file service. You can configure your NAS for time machine backup.

Synology also build apps so your iPhone or iPad can access the file.

Any model with 2-bay will suit your needs, and like I've said, just setup normally, it should be SMB for most compatibility.
It can even has BT download capability by itself so you won't need another PC or Mac as BT client.
I'm not sure about Internet radio though, I think it's irrelevant in this case.
So why Synology NAS is expensive, it's cause the software is darn good.
Though I must say I can do it my way so I'm incline towards DIY build. Much more control... in a way or two.

If you want the files to be identical you can try shared folder sync in the backup & replication. It will create another exact copy in your other diskstation.

its very easy just create the server where you want the files to go to. then create the client and choose what you want to "SYNC" to the server of course network backup service need to be running on the server. Here server is referring to where the "backup" files to be stored. try it its easy.

I'm planning to getting myself a DS1513+ Synology with probably 5x 3GB WD red or black. Mainly for purpose of storage and streaming of movies to my TV via my current TVIX Media Player.

It will also be hosting my pictures and music library as well. My questions are ..

1. Can I access the photos in the NAS from my iOS smartphone and is that hard to setup from the get go?
2. I'm currently on Maxis Home Fiber 10mb. Can I run torrent downloads on the NAS wireless? Any preferred wireless dongle? I have wired Cat6 to my living room which I will use that to stream my movies to the TV.
3. I will be having 1x POE 720p CCTV connected. Shall that be connected directly to one of the 4 Gigabit ports on the NAS or to the switch.
4. Considering my purpose of NAS, what RAID is suggested for my setup?

can i continue using WD green or i should still upgrade to WD red..

because the only difference is that WD red is better for RAID due to the TLER

Would the data still be read able if insert into another Synology nas? But different newest model?

I've gotten a new DS412 and I planning to do a backup from Buffalo terastation. Unfortunately, it seems like Buffalo terastation doesn't have rsync for me to do so. Any suggestions on this?
