yup, for RM300 can get another WD Red 2 tb to plug into the NAS tongue.gif
but you still can have plenty of choices with price cheaper than rm300 in the 'Home Electronics & Homewares' section.

Where can I buy 2TB at RM300?

The advantage of DS214play is the media transcoding feature.
Read more about it here

If you don't need media transcording, DS214+ if a better choice since both of them having the same price.

Most (99%) of my users are using Apple product (Mac laptop, iOS devices and AppleTV), what alternatives 2-bay model us best suite. Their usage included:
1) watching movies via TV, laptop or iPad
2) listening to stored music
3) listening to Internet radio
4) BT download

Thanks!

DSM works very well with Apple products.

File is accessed via SMB or Mac file service. You can configure your NAS for time machine backup.

Synology also build apps so your iPhone or iPad can access the file.

Thanks for the information.

Any model with 2-bay will suit your needs, and like I've said, just setup normally, it should be SMB for most compatibility.
It can even has BT download capability by itself so you won't need another PC or Mac as BT client. wink.gif
I'm not sure about Internet radio though, I think it's irrelevant in this case. sweat.gif
So why Synology NAS is expensive, it's cause the software is darn good. thumbup.gif
Though I must say I can do it my way so I'm incline towards DIY build. brows.gif Much more control... in a way or two.

Thanks for the information.

Personally, I have 2 Synology (DS410J & DS414) NAS. Instead of using backup, how can I create a schedule to copy files from one NAS to another?

Thanks in advance.

Why not just use Cloud Station app in Package Center, this will keep the file in both NAS in sync

My secondary NAS is for backup only and I don't want to install too many app in it. Besides Cloud Station, is there any other means?

If you want the files to be identical you can try shared folder sync in the backup & replication. It will create another exact copy in your other diskstation.
*
Can you provide the steps by step for DSM5.0?

Thank you.

its very easy just create the server where you want the files to go to. then create the client and choose what you want to "SYNC" to the server of course network backup service need to be running on the server. Here server is referring to where the "backup" files to be stored. try it its easy.
*
I am unable to select sub folder. Does it support sub-folder sync?

I'm planning to getting myself a DS1513+ Synology with probably 5x 3GB WD red or black. Mainly for purpose of storage and streaming of movies to my TV via my current TVIX Media Player.

It will also be hosting my pictures and music library as well. My questions are ..

1. Can I access the photos in the NAS from my iOS smartphone and is that hard to setup from the get go?
2. I'm currently on Maxis Home Fiber 10mb. Can I run torrent downloads on the NAS wireless? Any preferred wireless dongle? I have wired Cat6 to my living room which I will use that to stream my movies to the TV.
3. I will be having 1x POE 720p CCTV connected. Shall that be connected directly to one of the 4 Gigabit ports on the NAS or to the switch.
4. Considering my purpose of NAS, what RAID is suggested for my setup?

Why 1513? Love the expandability option in the future ... smile.gif

You will need to require the following items from Maxis:
1) a Public IP
2) Open relevant service ports
3) Configure port forwarding at router

Does anyone here has successfully configured Synology NAS to work with Maxis Home Fibre Internet?

I have requested from Maxis for public IP and have configured the necessary port forwarding but I am still unable to get the following to work
1) DDNS (registered with Synology)
2) VPN (using Synology App)
3) Download Station to dlwnload YouTube

What else should I configure?

Thanks in advanced.

DNS323 user reporting in,

just a question
If you are not using raid and just using a standard system(two seperate drives)
can i continue using WD green or i should still upgrade to WD red..

because the only difference is that WD red is better for RAID due to the TLER
*
You can use WD green hard drives for the setup above. You can also use green if the hard drives are configured as mirror (RAID 1).

Thanks for the suggestion.

It is raid 5 with 4hdd. With 1hdd, it can't read.

Would the data still be read able if insert into another Synology nas? But different newest model?
*
Yes. The HDD must be inserted in the same order as the original NAS.

Hi Guys,

I've gotten a new DS412 and I planning to do a backup from Buffalo terastation. Unfortunately, it seems like Buffalo terastation doesn't have rsync for me to do so. Any suggestions on this?
*
Which is the source NAS? DS412 or Buffalo?
