Wow 9kg!!,  drool.gif  drool.gif  drool.gif
I think with the money spend can get a brand new Tern P9?  laugh.gif
What crankset he is using?
Looks like seatpost and handle post change.
Other than that not much different  hmm.gif

to add on to etigge's post, this bike has gone thru a complete revamp, frame is left original. As far as i remembered when i last saw this bike:
it has a shorter fork to accommodate c-brake (lighter) though v brakes at rear, FSA carbon crankset, Deore 2013 groupsets and brake levers, lite-on wheelsets, durano tires, crank brothers pedals, fizik saddle, bla bla bla couldnt remember. Usually people like them owned a few bicycles, when they upgrade their bikes, those old components will be thrown to the old bikes.

as mentioned by mr.samo: we ride the bike, not the bike ride us. Do we need to modify that far? Or far you want to go? If your answer is yes, then "no mountain is too high" biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I am no professional, just normal person who couldnt sit still bicycle enthusiast sharing my thoughts.

P/S: the bike doesnt belongs to me too. smile.gif

Cheers.

Ahh... My favourite subject! The EP7i is a lower-end version of Tern's "little bigger" bike with a hub gear as its drivetrain. On the EP7i, you get the Shimano Nexus 7. Which is not as responsive as the Alfine 11 found on the higher-end Eclipse S11i.

Nevertheless, its also pretty smooth and if you are a strong rider, you can take this bike anywhere.. The "bang for the buck" factor on the EP7i are the Joule II dynamo hub, Valo headlight and the portage rack.

BUT, unfortunately, K2 Asia, Tern's distributor for Malaysia has no plans to bring in this bike.. This is due to poor demand and the minimum order quantity for this model which is set at a pretty high quota.

The Eclipse S11i.

So, that said, if you love bikes with internal hub gear, the only ones that are sold here are the Eclipse S11i at a whooping RM7.7K...

Wah.. I kena quoted here.. Hahahah!!!!

This issue about modifying bikes is a long-discussed matter.

My take is this: There are two school of thoughts. People who have the money and people who are restricted in terms of budget.

The dude with the money would go for a high-end bike, no need to do anything and enjoy years of run with the bike.

When you are restricted in terms of budget, you try and improvise the bike and hope for better performance.

As long as your modification won't cause injury or death, I think its acceptable.

BUT, looking from the practical point of view, like I said earlier: A bike is as good as its rider. If you pour your entire life savings to modify your Raleigh Ugo into a Super-Ugo, and the cost for doing so is similar to the retail price of a high-end bike, then you are penny wise and pound foolish. Again, this is a subjective matter where no one is right or wrong... Which brings us back to the fundamentals of wise spending..

So, my parting shot is: enjoy the bike, ride it hard and never forget to have fun...

HAhaha!! Agreed! thumbup.gif

This kinda reminded me about our training ride in Pekan Bt 18 in Hulu Langat last year.. My wife and I rode our Dahon Curve and overtook a fella on a mountain bike.. Apparently, he was a big shot with NAZA who owns Avanti Cycles in Tmn Tun.

We sapu the fella while he was riding up "dead man's climb" near the Kuala Kelawang - Semenyih junction and when we arrived there, a support car was waiting with drinks and snacks for their riders. The dude in the mountain bike rode past us and said: "Fuah! beskal kecik macam ni pun laju?" We smiled at him and said: "Bukan beskal bang, kaki yang kuat!" brows.gif

There are all kinds of riders, rich, poor, strong, weak, but most important is they ride. There are some like our Mr.Samo who is a purist. Means he buys bikes that are have already satisfied his requirements or fancy and once bought it stays that way. Only maintenance, nothing else. There are also riders like CCLEM and myself included. We like to tinker and go round bike shops hunting for parts for modification. Apart from the riding that we love, the upgrading and tinkering is also a hobby inclusive! tongue.gif Apart from filling in the requirements that is needed in our rides it also enriches our skills in repairing which is very important as well in rides, especially long rides. I even carry a spoke wrench in my saddle bag apart from the mini tool and spare tubes.

Just like my Eco C7 which is an entry level Dahon, I have already upgraded to the max already. I feel satisfied with it and a few weeks back, I was actually looking for another bike. Good frames, good components, SUPER expensive! rclxub.gif Good frame, mediocre components are also quite expensive and eventually the components are going to be left in a box unused, like my 2 Eco C7 parts. Finally, nothing like my old Eco C7, which is a good frame ( I have bounced on it, went downhilling at 50 km/h with confidence ) and now it's a 27 speed. The nearest that comes near it is the KHS 27 speed which cost over 4K. Dahon MUP27, although 27 speed , I don't like the internal gear.

Upgrading also makes buying a bike to your spec, easy going on your pockets! Just be sure it's a good frame and keep on adding. My total cost for the Eco C7 has already gone beyond 4K already and it took me almost a year. My wife's Eco C7 is 24 speed and my daughters Speed is also 27 speed. Seriously, if you want to follow this path, it's better we learn to do it ourselves! Bike shops has no time to upgrade it for you. tongue.gif The first time I wanted to upgrade to 8 speed from 7 speed,(I don't have tools then) , a bike shop in Bdr. Mahkota Cheras adamantly told me that it cannot be done. shocking.gif Now my bike is 27 speed! See how good some bike mechanics are!!! There's another one even worse in Damai Perdana. Once I bent my V-brake post and he told me it cannot be sourced and ask me to change bike shocking.gif

Another point to consider is warranty. Most bikes won't retain the warranty once modified.

Ahh, just had my night ride tonight.. Wifey asked for a KitKat, decided to go with bike (to Speed Mart) instead of by car.. had some sweating night though there were some very minimal raindrops.. My chain fell off the FD again (selamat dah sampai rumah), i need to figure out why and eliminate that.. Anyway, any night ride must be with at least a reflector and or lights! icon_rolleyes.gif

Keep on riding guys! icon_idea.gif

There are 2 screws side by side on the FD, for that matter also on the RD. They are the limiter screws for maximum internal and external travel of the FD. You need to limit the travel so the chain won't fall off the chain rings. hmm.gif

this is a very common problem, and there are several reasons i've found online, so lets all learn together....

this i copy from other forum...

" what cog are you in when you shift? If you are in the big ring and your inside cog (easy gear in back) and shift from the big ring to the small ring you are more likely to drop the chain. So shift several cogs to the outside of the cassette and then shift from the big ring..."

and also it seems that dropping chain is unavoidable in the road racing scene.... after reading this article...
