Just walk into a bike shop and ask around. Then you buy one that you fancy and join your friends to ride. After a few rides, you will get the idea and also will come to an opinion yourself and then on you will know the answer. I say this because, IRONICALLY, when someone ask, we answer but the advise is never followed. Hahaha! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif When they walk into the bike shop, let's say, we advise, buy a Dahon or a Tern, which are a good choice, reputable and dependable. In the end they come out with XDSlah..... Trinkslah....etc...etc. Why? For one this bikes gives a better return for the shop and also the shop can easily convince you because of the higher specs in components. I mean, let's say, entry level a Tern cost RM1.3K for a 7 speed but for an XDS the same price can get a 16 speed Shimano gear! blush.gif

Frankly speaking, all bikes can be ridden. It's just a matter of how long can one use it. Some are made to last while some are made just for the moment and this means a few years. I rode to Fraser's Hill on my Dahon but at the same time also I see other rides up with a Kalaq or XDS. Both can reach. What I am saying here is.......... just buy anything you fancy. Most serious bikers don't stick to one bike, they form an opinion by themselves when they join rides and see other riders' bikes. icon_rolleyes.gif

I think you can find 48T (but alot of 44T though) mountain bike cranks and they are cheaper too if you are not choosy about level. Off course if you want Deore or higher it's more expensive. You just need to take out the other 2 rings. Also many are upgrading and you find a lot of used ones in Bicycle Buy Sell. There are a few riders in this forum that organizes bike rides. Just keep a look out in this thread. icon_rolleyes.gif

Lol, nama saya pon dikeluarkan yah? Well, yeah Raleigh Ugo is a good beginner bike. U wont know if u r into cycling for long term o jes for the sake of satisfying friend request to join them. If u straight buy good bike but later underused it, then it will be wasted lah. Hence Raleigh Ugo is a good beginner bike that cost somewhere Rm680-Rm750. Btw, I didn't mod any part except add on front light, back light and cyclometer. Ohh yah, the best of the best and until now I am still satisfied which my upgrade is slapping a pair of 20x2.0 Schwalbe Big Apple tyre into my Ugo. Super comfortable comparing to stock Kenda tyre. Just try to experience Kenda tyre for a month and later upgrade to BA. You will appreciate BA very much.. Haha

After hearing advise from many friends, I decided not to waste money to upgrade crankset etc as at the end, it really wont worth much. The bike will end up being too expensive and afterall it's still the entry level Raleigh. Hence I am aiming for Tern Link P9 and most probably will be getting it by year end. Hope there is year end sales by then. Now Rodalink having 20% discount on all Tern bike. drool.gif

(Ahh side poison, if u have a bit more budget please consider the most basic Tern Link C7 which have now 20% sales at Rodalink Botanic. Is cost about RM1.1k after discount. Really worth it as Tern have very little sales going on as their bike are consider 'premium'.)

Anyway some poison picture again. cool.gif

the eclipse P7i is available at Rodalink @ 4K+ a pop

Problem is the rear dropout if different from P9/X20 and may not be able to fit a regular RD in case I want to switch to conventional gears unless of coz I switch to alfine or rohloff

I feel this bike is worth considering with racks, fenders, dynamo hub, lights etc

Yesterday riding from Setia Alam to Bukit Cahaya. There is a tangki god with around 15-20% accending which Raleigh Ugo max out halfway up. Largest cog already and already try standing to cycle but the bike jes wont budge. I guess this is the limitation dy. tongue.gif
On the other hand, my fren with Santa Cruz mtb go to the top easily. Later he try going up with my Raleigh and still only halfway. biggrin.gif
This is me upon reaching Bukit Cahaya. We did some light off road to lake side etc too while on the way there.

If you already have the crank, just hunt around for the chainring. Shouldn't be hard to find. Just make sure you buy the ring with the same PCB.

im totally agree with you. If you nt so sure whether u really into cycling or not, so better get a entry level rather than underused later.... In fact, my first bike was aiming the tern P9. however i also not so sure how serious and consistent am i in this activity so end up i got myself a cheaper bike (java fit). i know this bike is jz so so in terms of quality but i think that's a good excuse for me to upgrade to another bike in the future if i really like this game !! tongue.gif tongue.gif

Fuah... My name kena mention again.. hahah!! That's a very good way of looking at the matter..

Well, many who want to venture into folding bicycles are people who want to give it a try. If they like it, they most likely end up doing a lot of rides, and eventually venture into bikepacking and touring.

A large percentage of folding bikes are kept at home and are seldom used. This is like the bike that goes around the taman or to the nearest coffeeshop.

Of course, there are mad people who take their little bikes for ultra long distance rides, touring, camping and even town-hopping. But these folks are far and few in between..

All good things said and done, there are more people who are interested in folding bikes today. There are also more choices in terms of brands, make and models. This was not possible five years ago..

Seeing as it is, we have to be responsible in sharing information. Even with the examples shown, people are still shy in riding a bike with small wheels..

Here's a nice picture to give you an idea on public perception about small bikes.. hahahaha!!!

Wow!! That's good news! Never thought they will bring the Eclipse P7i into the country. It could be from way back when K2 Asia launched it.. If you have the cash, the Alfine 11 would be a great upgrade for the bike!

uhh... i think there is more talk of nonsense there than actual riding (so, no high expectations eh)... haha... roadies are not the fun bunch.. .if you want fun... join the foldies.. they are the fun people who ride, stop, talk, laugh, continue riding, stop again, stuff face, continue riding somemore...

with roadies.. it's banzai all the way and then by the end of the day... you are too puffed out to even recall what happened...

yeah... my first dahon costed a bomb to me... that was some more than 10 years ago when i got it at "the mall" when it was still called the mall...

now... a cnc machined kickstand alone could have killed 1/3 of the cost of the bike back than...fuah!!! imagine my shock when i saw those stuff... it's a crazy world if you got dragged too deep into the crazy parts of blinging your foldie out..

when you go to the roadie thread.. my words don't look so wise no more.. haha...

yup.. the mall at pwtc...the shop sells exercise equipment or something like that.. it's called something else now i think... never been there a long time...

wah... wat model ar... that thing is like ancient history now.. dun even know where it went already.. i don't even know what model it was when i bought it... i was a total blockhead way back then (late 90s)... and that bike started me cycling which was a happy thing for my parents as i don't exercise as a kid... and then later to cause them massive regrets in later years as i disappear from the house even before they wake up to go riding...

i only remember they had 2 models back then.. and they are the same thing... only the more expensive one had some fancy weights on the spokes which automatically changes your gear for you as you go faster... and my cheap one costed me (actually my parents) 1.8k back then... seriously dumb purchase if i think back on it... but then, it was the only place that had that folding bike last time... so... i dunno...

after that.. i went on to MTB and then roadie and riding life has never been any sweeter since...

it's good to ride expecting a big Hershey bar awaiting you at the end of the road as a reward...nowadays, it's just ride your nuts off.. look at the computer to find out that you've ride this and this and this, and climbed that and that and that.. where's the fun in that...
