Hmm.... I am thinking to change to Dahon Dash P18. Road bike feel and foldable. My KHS F20-T is good but lack of gear to climb hill. Anybody has dash P18 experience? rolleyes.gif

The Dahon Dash is actually a mini velo, albeit a folding one. So far, no complaints about it, maybe except the tire choice is limited as the later ones uses 451 rims and not the 406. Maybe the Neos and shifters are not so good but that's OK as one can upgrade to a better one later. The older Dash are better though but the later ones should be OK lah! thumbup.gif Here's a picture to stimulate your desire.

I was browsing Van's Urban and there's one Tyrell (only grey color left) selling for slightly less than 5K. It's the last one on offer, There's one hybrid, carbon fibre fork and rear triangle, selling for 8K plus, really nice components.

Many. It's getting so popular, there are many makes now. Oyama, Raleigh, Polygon, Geometric, Louis Garneau, Volcano, Cronus, Speedone, so many to name. Raleigh is only RM750 which offers quite a sturdy bike. LG is much worthy for RM900 with 8 speed and trigger shifters. You should visit Kimbell Jaya in Jalan Bandar Tun Husein Onn near Cheras. icon_rolleyes.gif

Why folding?

For those like myself who used to mtb/road bike, transition to folding needs some 'self justification'. Most common reason, IMHO is getting old where folding is more forgiving (comfortable etc). Folding also riders also kind of unique as in one hand you hv a total casual minded, then you hv those like kancil car owners who like to modified kaw-kaw as if no kancil anymore.

The most convincing reason to go for folding is you hv plenty of time to spare, and you finally realized life is not about destination, but the journey

i have a dash p18, don't expect it to have road bike feel cos it is still a small wheel... biggrin.gif

road bike wheel 700C, the handling n ride quality is different...

if u r a heavyweight, mebe u will feel it is more 'solid' compared to normal folding bikes with long seat post n handle post..

folded size is big, so not for everyone.... biggrin.gif

Folded size should be ok. As long as it can be folded. But let wait first. I think more model will come in as folding bike getting popular now. tongue.gif

folding bicycle with traditional diamond frame ... very few n rare...
very unlikely they will invent something new...

the dahon lockjaw hinge is very unique...

old model dahon matrix.. 26 inch wheel....

user posted image

Dahon Cadenza... same frame.. big wheels...

user posted image

due to ppl said 'mafan' ? ( the joint ).. dahon dun produce these anymore.... laugh.gif doh.gif

instead they made ' expresso '... doh.gif

another reason might be a lot of ppl complained about the lockjaw.. on the cadenza n matrix..
guess they trash it too hard n also heavy rider...

Doppelganger Squalo 806
full size 700c folding bike...
can the joint compare to the lockjaw??

close-up of the squalo hinge here ... https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...20&p=57709014&#

can always get a china hummer n convert like this.. biggrin.gif

Attached Image

copied from another forum...

" Borrowed zipp 303 wheelset from one of my friends to take this picture. There are still some clearance between frame and rear wheel, so I think I can use up to ~42c tires without problem.
Used FMF BMX brakes for 26" to 700c conversion, and Speen's toppull converter to use road front derailleurs for toppull cabling. I also machined 2.2mm thick aluminium spacer to fit rear wheelset to MTB frame.

Current weight is 8.38kg or 18.5lbs. I can shave ~200g by switching to carbon steerered MTB fork (Ritchey / Trigon makes one) and further by switching to 700c carbon fork, so it is theoretically possible to build a 7.7kg folding road bike if you really need one. But I won't go that far. "

The frame of the Vybe is more robust and more suited to a heavier rider but it's a 7 speed, keep that in mind. As for the Boardwalk it's easier to ride but not because of the bike but actually it has a 48T crank and most get a wrong opinion that the Boardwalk is easier to ride. It's actually because of the smaller crank it originally installed. As for Speed Uno, it's nice but the single speed and coaster brake is your preference, then it's OK. Both the bikes are OK but the Boardwalk offers 8 speed and in future if you want to upgrade to 9 or 10 speed, you don't have to change the rims/hubs.  icon_rolleyes.gif

with that budget, can get a decent model already. dahon mu p8, tern link d8. both model is 8speed i believe. and both is big names in folding bike, so the quality is there. it is still kinda entry level but it will suffice for beginners.

just my 2 cents.
