is that frankie's shop? dengkil? for RM 1.7k, can get the dahon p8 or tern link d8 if I'm not mistaken. the red color one. at least those are brands that are synonym with folding bikes.

Yes it is. It was recommended by Frankie according to my friend. Better specced than the P8.

Hi guys,

My friend is considering the Cronus High Speed 3.0/V2:

HIGH-SPEED 3.0 /V12
Size: 20 x 12.5"
Frame:CRONUS Alloy Foldable           Can't comment as I never seen the frame. Looks like the Dahon MU though. The only worry is the main joint!
Fork:CRONUS Alloy Taper Fork          Fork is OK but Dahon has a good fork to handlepost mounting, even better than the Tern's system, so I think Dahon's patented design should win here.
Shifter:SRAM X7 (8SP)                      Although X7 8 sp (it's now 10 sp) is outdated, it's definetely better than the Microshift or the lousy Dahon's original shifters.
F. Derailleur:NIL                               None!  rclxub.gif for that price, Java wins!
R. Derailleur:SRAM X7
Freewheel:SRAM PG-850, 8 Speed Cassette            Not much difference here.
Chain:KMC Z72                                                                  "
Crankset:FSA AF11-152A-BG3-5, 52T, 170mm        Same as Dahon's speed or others
Brakes:Disc brakes                                              I am a V-brake junkie so I can't comment as I am bias!  tongue.gif  Either a good V-brake or hydraulic disc, mechanical disc, no no shakehead.gif
Seatpost:PROMAX Alloy SP22FHE, 580mm with alloy clamp          Usual
Saddle:WTB Silverado Comp Black                                            Usual
Handlebar:ZOOM MTB-AL-110PP, Alloy , 580mm wide                 Usual
Head Stem:CRONUS Alloy                                                         Usual
Wheelset:CRONUS Alloy Double Wall                                          Acceptable because it's double walled.
Tires:SCHWALBE, 20 x 2.0"                                                       Must be big apple.

At RM1.7k, he is considering between this and the Java Fit. Any comment?

Why are you comparing a 16 speeder with an 8 speed bike? Unfair comparison and even worse, the lower spec-ed bike seems expensive for that price. I can comment on the quality of the frame but the Cronus does look attractive but looks is not the most important here. Seriously for that price I rather go for the Dahon Boardwalk ( also 8 speed) and much much cheaper, the old spec-ed Dahon Speed P8 ( I think better spec-ed than the Cronus) or add another RM400 and go staright for the latest. The Dahon Vigor P9 which is 9 speed. Further adding, if you like the shape of the Cronus, might as well go to Kimbell Jaya and go for the real Dahon MU P8 (the old model leftover). At RM1800 after discount, it has better rims, better seat post, better tyres, better handle post, better and proven vise grip joint than the Cronus. Also frame is given 3 years warranty for the Dahon. That's off course is my opinion. But compared what you asked, between the Cronus and Java, go for the Java. At least it is 16 speed!

PS/ it says high speed biggrin.gif But why it is shodded with such a wide tire?? rclxub.gif

Thanks etigge...

I didnt personally see the bike, just merely asking on my friend's behalf. I think the spec I copy and pasted is inaccurate, it was actually 16 speed and came with hidraulic disk brakes. smile.gif

however after a short ride, suddenly i feel like i would run out of gears very fast on a flat road cruise or a downward slope. But for now, it should suffice.

By the way i kinda hate the plastic foldable pedal. No doubt it is good when folding the bike for storage/transport but the pedal felt flimsy and wobbly. Anyone has extra, unused and unitilised metal pedal willing to donate? smile.gif

Yun, that shop in the background is ThaiSun which is in Thailand, I think. Incidently Thailand has more choices of mini velo and foldie parts and components. even Singapore too because we Malaysian are slow to catch on. Majority here still prefers mountain bikes.
