with that budget, can get a decent model already. dahon mu p8, tern link d8. both model is 8speed i believe. and both is big names in folding bike, so the quality is there. it is still kinda entry level but it will suffice for beginners.

just my 2 cents.

2K is not here nor there and as mentioned, the Tern D8. A little bit more say another RM200 plus minus a bit will make choice easier. Dahon Dash P18, Dahon MU P9, Dahon Vigor P9, Tern Link P9 is an extra RM500. These are proven bikes. Most riders will go for Dahon Dash, reason is because it is dual crank and 18 speed with disc brake. If you opt for Tern D8 which is around 1.6K there abouts, it makes not much difference compared to Link C7 and in fact the cheaper Boardwalk is more worthy. The Tern D8 although has an 8 speed compared to 7 speed of the Link C7, it uses Neos RD and it also shodded with single walled rims which is no improvement from the C7. In fact C7 has conventional RD hanger and so upgrading to Shimano or SRAM RDs is easier, no need for adapters.

My choice, go for the Dahon MU P8 (old model) still available in Kimbell Jaya. It's only RM1800. Specs are good thumbup.gif

PS/ or check out Sew Leong in Dengkil (Frankie) and see if there's still the older version of Dahon Speed P8. thumbup.gif Selling price is also RM1800.

The Dahon MU P8 is priced higher than the Speed P8. The Speed P8 is a proven bike both in terms of folding and also ride. As the Speed P8 use chromoly steel, the ride is more comfortable than the MU's aluminium. MU on the other hand is free of corrosion though and the ride is a bit harsh compared to Speed. The newer Speed named Dr.Hon's have lousy components, most visibly is thier rims, shifters and brakes. The older ones use Kinetix brakes with Avid levers, WTB rims and also have a seatpost with a pump inside. Also the older ones is shodded with Schwalbe Big Apple tires. I have 2 fellow riders including me 3 bought the older version from Sew Leong in Dengkil. Mine is the picture below.

Etigge, do you wrap your cables? if yes, what is the material you used? asking because the cable seems thicker than usual.

It's those plastic that twist around the cables. Can be found in Pasar Road for electrical wires. 10 bucks can cover 4 bikes. That's 4 cables inside the plastic twisters. 2 brake cables and 2 gear cables. icon_rolleyes.gif

The main dealer for Dahon in Singapore is Speedmatrix Pte Ltd, Blk 37, Jalan Rumah Tinggi, #01-409 Singapore. The replacement for Dahon Speed is Falco now, I think! icon_rolleyes.gif Check thier FB page and check the colours available too. Be prepared to pay more if buying in Singapore.

Judging from the pictures, it's OK, in fact some components are better. Eg. Shimano Altus although low end is even better than the Neos RD. There's even a braze ready for the FD so you need only an FD, an extra 39T chainring and a set of shifters and it can be converted to 16 speed.

Hooray, done ocbc community ride 1 loop today... Total 13km within 1.5hours, instead of the 2-loops 24km, because we were riding slow and by the time we reach back dataran, we were ushered back to the finishing line instead of continuing the loop. Aiyak... So cannot consider successfully completed it lah... Wife tarik muka masam because of the short distance smile.gif wat to do, i am newbie mah...

That 3 uphill slopes at the start is enough to make my legs go jelly, even with the lowest gear. But i realy liked the fast downhill ride towards the mall pwtc, mainly because i am used to fast genting downhill on my motorcycle, so downhill is the only time i am faster than my wife rclxms.gif But enough to say that i felt riding my Ugo felt better than riding my wife's Fit. Thanks to etiigge for enforcing my decision. Plus i had swapped that wobbly fold pedal to a zeray earth pedal just last night, the feeling is much more stable and easier to step on.

Finally, i have realised today that looking at pretty chick's butt while cycling is a great motivator to keep on pedalling. drool.gif wub.gif whistling.gif brows.gif

Storied in my first paragraph, i was slow sweat.gif

Late half hour? As in the corp challenge session? I was late for the community ride. As i came down from the train at 8.45am and rode towards dataran, the first wave already jalan and i joined 2nd wave punya rear end.

What do u mean by ghost ride? Mean join in the ride without paying lah? If like that then i think i saw a few ghost riders today. Tarak bib numbers, just jerseys. Anyway the guy who sold me the zeray pedal joined the corp challenge and he told me that he and his bunch would usually find a mamak somewhere drink tea makan breakfast and when time is almost up, only pedal back for the finishing. True enough when i was passing dang wangi, plenty of cyclists in one mamak shop there lol.
