Ideally, to run AutoCAD, get i7 quad core, and if doing 3D CAD, need good GPU. Also 8G RAM or more is ideal (8G RAM stick ~ RM200). Also FHD screen is better, as he can see more on the screen.
But your brother budget is pretty tight. Priorities smile.gif

Don't get me wrong but I love the 'plainliness' of the lenovo.. the crisp, simple no 'gimmick' design. Can't stand the exterior lighting etc on most gaming laptop whatsoever smile.gif

thanks again hehe

by the way, nexus, how do we negotiate with Dell?
coz recently i bought online but they never call me.
some people said that before they deliver, dell customer service will call the buyer to confirm on the package?

Who will entertain negotiation on a CONFIRMED order? laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
At the Dell website, there is a chat button. Click on that, some sales person will online chat with you. Negotiate away smile.gif
If you don't succeed, try again, since each chat session you probably will be assigned a different sales person.

If you really like L850, go for this lah. More RAM, bigger HDD, 1 additional year of warranty, RSP only RM70 extra smile.gif (plus the voucher you are RM120 short)

Remember to negotiate.

My sister wants to buy her first laptop. Light user, just light image editing. Since most new laptop comes with windows 8, hope can grab 'older' laptop with great discount with windows 7 or FreeDOS .

1. Preferred Brand - non-Acer, non-ASUS
2. Budget - 1.8 to 2.3K
3. Usage - movie, web, downloading, light image editing
4. Preferred screen size - 13-14"
5. Other preference (not compulsory): Light weight, windows 7
6. Will use LCD TV as screen when watching movie (must have VGA or HDMI port)

Thanks

Vostro - lighter, the i3 M is slightly more powerful than the i3 ULV in Inspiron 14 (also drain the 48Whr battery faster tongue.gif )
Insprion 14 - more frugal power usage, can opt for 6 cell 65Whr battery for long battery running time (standard spec is 40Whr, but since it is using i3 ULV, still run longer than the Vostro 5460 with i3 M), has 2 RAM slot easier to increase RAM (Vostro 5460 only 1 RAM slot).

But one of your main criteria is good / long warranty support (3 years to cover for your sis study?). If you go for Vostro 5460, may not have budget left to extend warranty (defeat the purpose of going with Dell tongue.gif )

One more thing, for budget laptop like these, the profit margin for brands are not that high, expect on ~ 10% discount from list price if you negotiate good smile.gif (Those RM4-5k laptop may get some extremely good deal if negotiate hard enough laugh.gif )

Most brand new laptop in the market are spec with W8 already, unless you go with business class machine (can still spec with W7P), but those are expensive.

Acer
V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8
V7-582PG-74508G52k, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD + (1920x1080 IPS; touch)@RM3399, 8GB, W8

HP
Pavillion M6-1110TX, i7-3632QM + AMD HD7670M@RM2999[Beats], 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8

Lenovo
Y500, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM2999, 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

The 2 Acer has the best screen (the i7 Haswell U is only duo core btw). Y500 is expected to be replaced with Y510P soon (which will be spec with Haswell quad core and support Nvidia Optimus).

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
