1. Preferred Brand - Any (Good Quality)
2. Budget - 1k to 1.5k (Best specs with bang for bucks!)
3. Usage - Student usage, assignments, presentation, light gaming, movies
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14' and above

Preferably not so heavy as it is for girl. Also, would be good if laptop recommended can last about 4 years (for uni period) and good customer service if anything happen.

Thanks in advance. icon_rolleyes.gif

Don't you ever wonder for the same Dell model, reseller could sell at the lower price than on Dell website?  tongue.gif
Well, if you just pay the listed price on Dell website, Dell will just say thank you very much smile.gif

I see, will try it out.

Thanks bro! smile.gif

Vostro - lighter, the i3 M is slightly more powerful than the i3 ULV in Inspiron 14 (also drain the 48Whr battery faster tongue.gif )
Insprion 14 - more frugal power usage, can opt for 6 cell 65Whr battery for long battery running time (standard spec is 40Whr, but since it is using i3 ULV, still run longer than the Vostro 5460 with i3 M), has 2 RAM slot easier to increase RAM (Vostro 5460 only 1 RAM slot).

But one of your main criteria is good / long warranty support (3 years to cover for your sis study?). If you go for Vostro 5460, may not have budget left to extend warranty (defeat the purpose of going with Dell tongue.gif )

One more thing, for budget laptop like these, the profit margin for brands are not that high, expect on ~ 10% discount from list price if you negotiate good smile.gif (Those RM4-5k laptop may get some extremely good deal if negotiate hard enough laugh.gif )
*
That's what I thought too..discount won't be much for low budget. May not opt for 3 years warranty also(extra cost), maybe go for accidental dmg. sweat.gif

Now looking in terms of performance (multi task, not slowed down/lagging if too much task), battery usage, portability.

Inspiron 14 - i3U@1.8GHz, 2gb RAM, 4-cell, slight heavier

Vostro - i3M@2.5GHz, 4gb RAM, 3-cell, thin/lighter

Like you say, vostro processor slightly more powerful but drain batt faster...hmm.gif

How many hours can the battery last with normal usage for both laptop?

hmm.gif I just tried with the sales chat with Dell,

Really not much of anything special/bang extra promotion biggrin.gif

For Inspiron 14-3421, I can get free wireless mouse and keyboard, and with MasterCard user, can get another wireless bluetooth handsfree.
Online Dell website promo extend warranty for 1 year only cost RM139.

For Vostro-5460, can get wireless mouse and with MC, bluetooth handsfree. Selected Vostro model can get free DVD ODD promotion (No free ODD for RM1549 model cry.gif ).
No promotion for extend warranty programme, if want to extend will cost alot!

So which is better deal? hmm.gif

Additional feature:-

Inspiron 14 - With ODD, cheaper, extended warranty promotion.
Vostro - carbon dunno what at bottom cover(better heat dissipation), aluminium finish, comes in Red, no ODD, slight overbudget.

Good to know that you are being smart by bargaining brows.gif

Mind sharing what is the specs of the 5460 they have offered you? There are many variants hmm.gif

USually its best to opt for warranty extension if you are getting a Dell  laugh.gif

The RM1749 vostro have promo free DVD ODD worth RM179. The sales chat guy quote me 'selected vostro' have this bundle only.
The sales chat guy also told inspiron hot model, so less promotion.

Bro PF[T.J.], any recommendation for my search? Any other options beside dell?

biggrin.gif I gave them the link to the vostro I wanted, and they quote me different model doh.gif

However the different model they quote me, RM1749 de, their best offer was RM1649.

Can't keep bargain, feel frustrated, I directly straight to the point I wan best offer/discount/freebies few times le, the sales chat fella still ask me and tell me those standard things. sweat.gif

I don't mean to be hard on you, so pardon me if I sound that way, ok?

Buddy, you are not negotiating, you are "fishing"
When you go to the negotiation table (figuratively speaking), you must be clear on the position you want.
The other side will offer something to you (their position). Most of the time, it is good for the other party to reveal their cards first. In this case, Dell Sales are throwing freebies at you. But those freebies are not your PRIMARY objective.
What are your objectives?
You want extended warranty to 3 years (important), and larger battery (maybe can compromise), and price below your budget (very important).
So you must state that your position.
Tell them your budget is only RM1.5k. Tell them the e-value code (never go wrong with Dell) . If you extend warranty to 3 years, and opt for larger battery, what is the price you see on screen (probably exceed your budget by RM100++?). Tell them you don't want any of their freebies.
Do we have a deal?

Asking for "best deal" is not a good negotiation tactics. The other party has to GUESS what is "best" for you, and that leads to lots of frustration on both sides  laugh.gif

Thx bro! Advise taken. notworthy.gif

But I did state my budget, I go straight to the point I wanted best offer/discount besides the price listed, instead the dell sales chat fella still throwing the same thing to me. Maybe I was not firm enough, like you say, sounded 'fishing'. sweat.gif

Will try your method and see.. thumbup.gif
