Yeah I have high hope that Nokia and Elop will bring some much-needed urgency and Actual F[un]ing Clue™ to the WP team. Much of my long rant is actually about things they have already fixed or are setting to fix but you have to excuse me if I say their track record is none too impressive and if they don't hit the top gear soon they're gonna be dead in the water.

Also, I'm just playing devil's advocate. Yeah consumers shouldn't expect to have a flawless experience even from a top-end phone but if they're selling a phone in the price bracket of an iPhone or high-end-Android-priced-RM2k+-whatever-it-is, the least they could do is try to cover up a very, very glaring issue. You can't just bank on your 41MP sensor alone and hope the average consumer would forgive your sub-par usage experience. Unless all those millions spent in R&D and marketing is only to appease the few nerds who actually care about the camera, right now L1020 looks more like a test phone for lab rats instead of an All-Glorious Flagship phone.

It's a 4-second-delay-between-taking-shots-in-which-time-you-can't-really-do-anything-else-while-the-file-is-processed. Call it what you want.

I have no clue what you're talking about in the rest of your post; I suggest re-reading my posts in full. I'm not talking about ME, I'm talking about your average, non-tech-savvy citizens who won't be too impressible and forgiving like the rest of us are. You know.. the target market that actually matter, currently in love with Copysung and iPongs.

Again don't get me wrong. I love WP to death and I want to see it succeed (partly because I've spent much money on it) but I'm not going to be an apologist about their slacking and shortcomings, especially when said shortcomings are just plain dumb things that shouldn't have happened in the first place. There's some serious flaws in their design process and they need to fix it now.

Ahh... Bluetooth. They were saying something along the line of "We had no idea Bluetooth is such an important sharing mechanism in the world. We don't see many people use it in North America except for pairing accessories." Classic. doh.gif

It reminds me of those reasons (or excuses) Apple gives for their iOS which lack of many features.

Anyway, it's moving forward... at least... albeit... very slow (which actually can be very fast).

QUOTE(jonchai @ Sep 9 2013, 12:29 PM)
Agreed. I literally facepalmed when I read about that few days back.

On top of all these, my biggest gripes, only able to attach 1 file per email? I mean, really? What the heck were they thinking? Whoever implemented that half assed feature should get fired, right away. Another thing, the bloody wall garden in the name of DRM. There's no away developers could access the video library, absolutely, NO WAY. WTF? I can't even share a video I recorded on Whatsapp eh?

Seriously, I can't believe MS does this.

The consumers have been spoilt with features and demand instant gratification. You would think that they are stupid that they did not release the features at least on par with the other OS.

But have you given in the thought of how many bugs and problem will surface if they tried to do it all? Iron out the bugs will probably push the OS another few years back, and most probably end up rewriting some of the code again and trigger some more bugs. Isn't it better to push out a sturdy good base and build up the features on top?

Fhaarkas,
True, sometimes I felt really burn that the OS is still half-baked after years of development.
Partly due to this, I wouldn't normally explain to one about WP as an alternative in today's Mobile industry unless he or she is willing to listen or is looking to understand the Current.

To Other Readers,
Fhaarkas isn't trying to rant or troll about negativity of WP.
He share the similar love and passion about WP like the rest of us here. He may use some hard words to express his thought as well as the Inconvenience Truth of current WP.
Anyone has the right to show their love in some form in their own way, this is just his way.

Anyway, about Orientation Lock
I just remember that it is really weird that Windows RT got this feature way earlier (I presumed since released) but Windows Phone 'No'. I thought Windows RT share quite similar coding or .... similar in deep form.

If the 1520 can deliver pic quality higher than 925 but (slightly) lower than 1020 in "normal" point n shoot scenarios, that'd be great. The FHD screen and SD card support gets my vote over the camera tastic 1020.

GDR3 only took them what, 2 years?  doh.gif And notification center is only coming with WP8.1, in Q1 2014. Seriously I think MSFT is trying too hard to 're-invent' things. They should just do what they've been doing for the past 30 years - steal someone's idea and make money off it. Sorry that I sound like a MS hater but I'm not, really. I'm a fan of theirs and I want to see them succeed and they can't succeed if they're being a p*ssy like this.

I don't know bro... Lumia 920 the first Windows Phone 8 was released back in September 2012 (source: GSMARENA), so that makes it only a year old phone (Not counting from Malaysia release), and we already have like 2 updates (GDR 1 and GDR 2) in a year, not including about a couple more updates from Nokia, so I don't think that they are updating the OS really slow or anything. At least better than my android phone which maybe only eligible for 1 update only? Cos the OEM just dump the previous FLAGSHIP's update after new FLAGSHIP coming up.

Yes, I do understand your rant about those basic features are losing as for current smartphone's standard, but I think they are just trying to introduce new technologies (which mostly beneficial to their own regime thanks to our slow progress in infrastructure), but ended up back fired cos the mass just couldn't accept their way of trying implementing new solution (aka Cloud Solution - a reason why SD card is not intended in WP 7.0). Nevertheless, their email attachment sucks whole time.

Still I will wait for the freebies (Camera Grip) bundled offer instead of getting it at initial launch.

You got a point there.

Beside the Email Attachment, I have a related issue but not so crucial, kinda annoying though.
That is Cannot Rename Photo, except those uploaded to Skydrive.

When you attached those Photo which you took with your Windows Phone, it would renamed according to some arrangement. Hence when attached to email, the filename will be exactly the same and cannot be edit. Not professional, for me.

Ai yo, mwtang. This is really killing me leh. All those news, bit by bit.

Still, glad that you shared such a good news.
Even Minor, I believe at least got RM100 lower.
Kinda weird to revise a few tenth.

No you can't start counting from L920. HTC HD7 was released 3 years ago. That should've been plenty of time to get their [sheep] together. And it's good that they churn out updates more often than Android or iOS, they just have to do them even faster and with more significant features instead of "3 months for copy-paste.. 3 months for tile resize.. 3 months for Bluetooth.. oh hey look we're releasing a new OS, let's scrap some of the progress we made,.. another year for rotation lock etc etc". It hurts me to see WP not taking advantage of their upper hand. Android is badly fragmented and now Google is doing something about it. shakehead.gif

Also, Microsoft have to recognize that The Rest of The World is not North America, and so they need to learn how to hold their horses (this is actually one of the reasons they bought Nokia - for their global presence - so it's good that they at least see what their problem is). Hell, even in NA some of their vision is just too far ahead nobody seems to get them (see: XBone initial digital-only plan). Microsoft have a history of (unsuccessfully) pushing things ahead of their time. They even have a tablet version of WinXP. In 2002. rclxub.gif You have this awesome cloud-based touchy touchy omnintegrated all-digital home vision? Cool. Now please come back 2 or 5 years later.

Alright. Alright.
I understand your position and won't force you.

By the way since you may have inside information, can you help check whether the Release of L1020 is only in Nokia Store or Nationwide Sales Channel such as through Online Superbuy.my?
You could let me know the answer on the same day, you let us know the RRP.

Bcoz I won't be in KL during the announcement.
How great if it is available in Nokia Store KL Area on this coming weekend!

Lol well that was back in WP7 days and it's not a bashing. Coming from a dumb phone I really loved WP7 and the fact that it's just a telephone without those overwhelming smartphone baggage and "features" (although I wouldn't actually have any problem switching straight to Android and all its tinkering lol but I just needed a new phone). Now it's not so dumb anymore but still a bit dumb.

Seriously though I'd recommend Windows Phone to anybody making their transition from dumb phones, especially your abang, akak, pak cik and mak cik. The older group and those hundreds of millions dumb phone users never care about "apps" or "trend" and it's good that Microsoft is recognizing that it's these transitional users that they have to get a hold to.

Anyway this belongs more to WP8 thread than Lumia 1020 I think. tongue.gif
