Is it ok to use the bottled version instead of the single-vial version of artificial tears 1 year post-lasik? understand that the difference is the preservative

1 year later? does this mean that some lasik patients may depend on eye drops for the rest of their life?

Anyhoo I found my answer. I tried using 1 with preservative but it wasn't comfortable, perhaps because the eyes is sensitive to the preservative. Made my eyes burn a lil.
Looks like I'll be sticking with single vials for comfort instead...

A friend of mine did it at Advance Vision Damansara and had good results. So, I called Advance Vision Damansara for initial check appointment.
28/2/2020 9am arrived at Advance Vision and start checking. They used 5 machines if I'm not mistaken. Then the consultant told that I'm eligible for surgery. This checkup is FOC. Since doctor is available, I said I want to meet doctor right away. They put 3 types of eye drops which caused my vision to be blurred and very sensitive to light. Was hard for me to drive back at noon on a very sunny day. Doctor consultation costs RM100. Doctor Linda was very professional. Checked my retina and all. She gave me the green light for standard Trans PRK (my power right -250, left -400). Paid RM400 (deposit) and booked my surgery on 6/3/2020. Must come on 4/3/2020 for pre surgery checking. Everything done by 12.00pm.

Total costs will be RM2988 (deposit+surgery+post op check up up to 6months) +RM100(doctor consultation). Medicine not included, will be around RM100.

Will update later.

Day (0) of surgery: My appointment was at 11am. After waiting and all, my actual turn for surgery is 1pm. I kept cool and thought they just want to let us relax at the clinic and the doctor must be very thorough that's why it's taking so long. The actual procedure was mere seconds. After the surgery, IMMEDIATELY can tell i got better vision. Felt nothing because of the anaesthetic. On the way to the car, then start feeling discomfort. My wife drove the car, went back home, ate lunch and slept. Woke up for dinner and slept.

Day 1 post surgery: My eyes were extremely sensitive to lights. Still Could not drive. If I could describe the pain, it's like the pain from chlorine because you open your eyes while swimming underwater in a swimming pool with no goggles. At thias moment I totally regret doing surgery 😂. Went for post op checkup, doctoe said all is good and will feel better tomorrow. Funny thing is I saw the guys who were waiting together yesterday and we were all the same. In agony 😂😂.

Day 2. Woke up feeling much better. Still sensitive to lights but lesser than yesterday. Can start to read writings at handphones around 80%.

Day 3. Even better. My vision become clearer. Can read handphone 100%. Fine details at a distance still blurry. I'm using eyedrops religiously, set the alarm every 3.5hours for ophthalmic drops, every 1.5hours for hydration drops.

Depends. Everybody is different, but younger people should have better and faster chance of recovery.

I had slight dry eyes before going for lasik (apparently had traces of some infection which healed but tear glands not fully healed), but doctor said was eligible as not too bad.

Had dry eyes post op, as expected. Used it up to 2 years but doctor warned that eyes may become dependent and tear glands may never fully heal.
At this point I was dropping 1-2 times a day, as needed only. Usually after shower or swim. Tried to quit cold turkey but when very very dry I will use the drops, maybe 3-4 times a week only. After 1 month I decided to just quit cold turkey and just yawn forcefully to generate tears instead of using eye drops.

This was around 1.5 years ago and have not used eye drops ever since. Was more concerned on eyes being reliant on drops than the cost to buy drops for rest of my life. Also convenience of no need to carry eye drops everywhere I go.

I had lasik before these so-called doctors hide secrets from us.

1. After about 5-10 years, our vision will worsen and we need glasses again.

2. The cornea thickness will be thinner because they laser it off , and your eyes become very dry.

If they told me in the past, I won't get lasik.

Unless your eyepower is very high, eg. more than 800, then don't do lasik. It's cheating money

if you eye power is high above 800, it will take very long time to recover.

and even after 6 months , the vision still will be blurry and wont be sharp as before.

Nonsense! I had power above 800, after lasik got 20/20 perfect vision the next day.

But those surgeons didn't tell people that after 10 years, the power will increase again.

Now I'm 6 weeks post op. Stop medicine as per instructions. I barely need eyedrop. No dry eyes symptoms. I just use them 2-3 times a day just because. My vision getting better though it is not yet 6/6.

Hi , I wanted to do lasik to free myself from specs and contact lens as over wear CL cause my eyes to turn red. I walked in to Optimax Klang on Saturday (peak hours) with to do my lasik assessment. Upon reaching only I knew I had to make an appointment ( BETTER TOO ) for the checking but anyways the optometrist there suggested I could do free screening to see whether I'm suitable not as lasik suitability need to lay off contact lens for 2 weeks 😪. So I did and it was all good. I'm okay to proceed. So I thought of doing lasik at Klang in 2 weeks time. To my understanding Dr Yen is only on Cataract cases and checking for other eye diseases. So yeah they said I shud be going to TTDI and they even offered me transport to go there. Overall my experience was really good at Optimax Klang. The doctor and staffs are really friendly. Planning to bring my mom for eye screening by dr yen.

i had power 900. it's been 3 months after surgery. i had been using all their drops and eatv vtamins diligently. mine was done at advance vision damansara.

but I'm still having slightly blurry vision even today.  if you read back the old replies in this thread you can find similar testimony also. i would that my vision is far from perfect compare to when i was using glasses.

so don't use the word "nonsense" just because your experience is better than others

OK. Sorry to doubt your experience.

I think it's because you went to the wrong doctor, a lot of doctors aren't really qualified to do lasik.

There're lots of unethical people in Malaysia (unlike western countries) just out to earn money at expense of patients.

Slight blurry is alright, it is better than overlasik which will burn off more cornea than necessary.

Once your cornea is burned off, it can't grow back and you can't do another lasik anymore in the future if cornea is too thin.

I found that out years later when I had dry eyes because of thin cornea. They never tell us the cons. Only the pros. shakehead.gif

that advance vision doc has done literally thousands of surgeries in his career. BUT i suspect the machine or tech that they use is outdated compare to other companies.

and also problem is my own eye sight recovery really too slow for don't know what reason
