Just wondering, anyone has tried Olympus 40-150 lens? Is it good?
I'm going to get EM5 with kit lens 12-50mm, this sunday, but I'm thinking of getting a good and cheap zoom lens. |

QUOTE(avars @ Mar 14 2013, 12:14 PM) yeah, like the other 2 sifu suggest keep the kit lens with u.you can use your 12-50mm (zoomed to 45mm and hold it) and try to live with it all along your photography to see if it suit you. If yes then u may consider getting the 45mm since it is a much brighter lens. |

Just got an Olympus PL3. I'm impressed by the size, it's so small. Color rendition was pretty good too. Nothing awesome is framed here, just a test shot in my kitchen with yellow lights.

Maybe a tad hard to get used to it but indoors/landscapes are amazing. Not to mention video too. |

Anyone interested with this grip for E-M5? It's much more cheaper than the original one & can access battery door without removing it.

say, 45mm is not really an ideal use indoor due to focal length.. perhaps shot only head to shoulder and limited to portrait not any group...
btw, 45mm could be use in wide area like studio, hall etc.. if your room is just about 50sqft - 80sqft.. then u will facing difficulties.. 45mm is mean to portrait lens but it doesnt mean use only for portrait.. |

I know EPL-1 is a quicker camera than EP1 but how about built quality?
Just got myself a EP1 cheap with 45mm, quite happy with the images but got focusing issue, still try to sort it out. |

QUOTE(wailup @ Mar 22 2013, 05:05 PM) slow.. i wonder how 'slow' is slow.. if night time, i think.. even the normal 14-42 also will make sound... but.. im not sure whether is that a shutter sound or blade sound.. but then again.. since i only have this m43.. i got nothing else to compare already.. you mean your 14-42 makes sound even before making shots? could it be that the lens tried to open up to gather more lights for focusing but close down again to match the aperture chosen |

Guys, quick question.
Any of you bought a flash for your m43? Planning on getting a DSLR flash (yung nuo 560II/III), the only issue is with the weight distribution on my Oly EP3. Any of you use them extensively for long period of time? How's the experience? I notice the OM-D EM-5 is alot heavier, so putting on the flash wouldnt cause much issue. i wished mine was heavier |

How much did you get it for? How's the weight and feel of it when attached to the epl1?still trying to get a good setting for it, flash bounce from ceiling is a new thing for me to learn. My main concern with choosing is actually the price. Then comes the weight/ergonomic factor of using a big/heavy flash on my EP3. So wanted the input of anybody who has any experience with it here. |

you can try the Nissin flashes that are compatible with four thirds systems? cheap and light i guess. my nissin is quite alright on my e620. having a flash will help speed AF and indoor low light performance and is alot cheaper than getting a fast prime lens. when i got the NIssin in 2011, i think it was around 400. a fasy prime lens, f2.8 or more is at least 1k, check out YL camera website or shasinki site.
i saw a 50m/f2 macro for 4/3 used going for 1.1k on shasinki, really sharp lens and at that price is a steal. but i already a used om zuiko 50mm/f1.8. like everybody, i am on a tight budget so can only dream for now. |

Hi Guys,
Any suggestions for a camera shop located in KL/PJ (preferably PJ since I stay here) with extremely aggressive pricing on Panasonic M43 lenses? Have tried the usual suspects in Digital Mall, YL Camera in Jaya 33 etc... Was wondering if any member has knowledge of better (more cost-effective) shops. Thinking of shifting some of my Oly primes for a Panasonic fast zoom. Getting a bit tired of carrying and changing lenses. Thanks bros. |

Need some advise from m43 user here.
I am still considering which m43 to go for. Olympus EPL3 now selling RM1499 with 14-42mm but some forumer in LYN selling Rm1359. Panasonic GF3 RM1350 comes with 14mm & 14-42mm. In term of image quality , easy of use , durability, functions, which one would have more pros ? Thx. |

Hi people, I'm new in photoshooting. I have a question. I own a GF2 and I love how the photos turn out using a 50mm 1.8 but I have to stand rather far from the object. I understand that this is a prime lens? I was wondering if there are any lens that can produce the same effect but without me standing very far away from the object?

IS can sometimes be over-rated and used as marketing tool to sell more.
afterall, IS wasnt around donkey years ago...only like last 10yrs only. ppl have survived for long enough without it. just stick with basics and u cant go wrong. |

QUOTE(incubus_skj @ Apr 6 2013, 04:13 PM) try waiting for promos at the lumix stations for the PL25mm f1.4 wa, RM1449 is damn cheap! I was thinking of buying a Oly 17mm f1.8, around RM1600. If can get the 25mm f1.4 at that price, i'll skip the 17mm.i got it at 50% off during one of their roadshows at RM1449 only |

How much is the olympus 45mm f1.8? Just got my E-PL3. But i'm much more amazed with the E-P5 as they are able to hold their ground against bigger sensor's competitor. Kudos m43

What kind of prime lens are you using? Shooting in manual or are you using a manual prime lens?
Am using an Olympus G.Zuiko 50mm f1.8, my first manual lens and first additional lens purchase. So far loving it. I like how it really forces you to compose properly, which makes your shots better. Image quality is alright, not so much different from Olympus kit lens (EP3). The cons though is cause its manual, so it's alot harder (almost impossible) to take shots of moving subjects like street or events. And since mine is an old lens, with not so great coating, it flares/glares easily and ghosts. Even with light from bulbs will cause glares. Ghostings happens very easily when there's excessive light into the lens. |

Sound hard using manual lens..in theory if you set the focus say to hyperfocal distance everything at the back should be in focus. For moving subject can use shutter speed mode. I dont know how to explain, but I find it hard to "follow" the target since there's a very narrow FOV. What I've been doing is setting the focus to a certain distance, and then walk around to keep that same distance for every shot while making slight adjustments on the go. Sort of the same thing lah, just not sure how to explain. hahahaAn example, I got this fairly sharp and focused. ![]() Little Kat by JonDoyou, on Flickr And then here, focus shifted to the lady at the back instead cause I misjudged the distance. and i think i turned the focus ring the wrong way since panic abit, first time use manual lens. hahaha ![]() Turn away by JonDoyou, on Flickr |

QUOTE(NISMOgan @ Apr 20 2013, 02:21 AM) I think he means the old legacy prime lens. In general i guess. If im guessing correctly, he's basing the prices of legacy primes vs cctv, since cctv is about less than RM200, legacy primes RM200-300.Ekestima and then it depends on which prime. But i would pick prime over cctv. I have no experience with cctv but if im not mistaken (sifus can correct me here) it hasa fixed aperture and only small part in the center is clear/focused while the rest is blown/blurred out like phone camera lomo effect. Prime is adjustable aperture and blurring depending on your focus so its not so limited. |

Hi m34 sifus, all this while snapping photos with phone... wanna get in to m34 for its portability and flexibility (interchangeable lens)...
My budget is around RM1400 or so. Was pitched with Oly E-PL2 and my personal choice GF5. Which one would you guys recommend? Or you guys have something better in mind? Thanks! Purpose of the camera will be mainly for traveling, scenery, and with some occasional macro shots ( i like bugs too kenary820).. This post has been edited by GameFr3ak: Apr 24 2013, 01:00 AM |

QUOTE(GameFr3ak @ Apr 24 2013, 12:59 AM) Hi m34 sifus, all this while snapping photos with phone... wanna get in to m34 for its portability and flexibility (interchangeable lens)... All these camera practically good, i would suggest you choose the one that feels right in your hand, my chose would be the one that give interface that allow me to work faster ie change the setting faster. Another thing a hot shoe wouls added advantage later on in case you need external flash which is very useful in many conditions. As macro goes, raynox with kitlens would do.My budget is around RM1400 or so. |

Hmm I watched some reviews for GF5, and the GUI is simple and easy enough to change stuff quickly. But hotshoe is not included, only a built in flash. EPL2 on the other hand, lacks 'features' like artsy filters and what not. But with better grip I guess and better IQ. It also has a hotshoe along with a built in flash. God damn, I'm torn between the two. |

Photoshop and Lightroom has wayyyyy better filters. hahaha I obviously cant contribute anything since I'd be biased anyway, so good luck! go try the cameras out at the shop side by side if you need to. And bring a friend who knows a thing or two about camera, so at least you dont get cheated by the sales person. haha |

I personally think that you should go for GF5 since what you want is compact. Unless you really need the hot shoe then you might need to reconsider. QUOTE(GameFr3ak @ Apr 24 2013, 09:56 AM) Holycrap OM-D erm lately i`m not so updated about the prices bro sorry for that hehe, how about EP3? As i know its quite a leap in from the previous machine. GF5 with twin lens is quite a deal if u dont mind working without hotshoe? GX1 is slightly over ur budget else that would be a perfect one! serious model b4 GX1 was GF1 and 2 but their ISO limitation is quite low, for me acceptable up to 800 only which is quite ok la. I`m a Panny guy previously, just jumped into Olympus so I`m not so sure about its deal too much And is IQ score of 55 vs 50 a big deal on DXOMark? Thanks!! About DXOMark, I personally did not rely these figures to make decision, usually I read user reviews, look at unedited pic quality and try it for myself hehe. Maybe Sifus around here can help him about DXO? |

About hot shoe, you can mount a electronic view finder, flash, remote shutter, etc. To me if you ask Flash, so for i did not use, cos with proper setting you can take picture in a not so well lit environment. Of cos see how dark is it, plus your hand (steady or not) and also your lens capability. I would say the Ori 14mm f2.5 is quite enoughReally or not lol but is hotshoe really an important factor ar? Or just buy the GF-5 twin lens kit for the time being and when time and money comes simply upgrade the body later but still keep the good lens from panasonic like the 14mmf2.5..

How's Olympus E-PM1 or EPL3 for video? Can it control exposure, aperture, iso and focus during video? And does it overheat?
I hear Panasonic GF5 cant control much. |

QUOTE(GameFr3ak @ Apr 24 2013, 09:26 AM) How about this, what do you look for when you wanna buy a new m43 cam ? What would you prioritize when you make comparison between models/brands? For me, I got the EP3 because it felt better to me. Thanks a heap! I never really compared it to the Lumix, one of the reasons is the screen reso. Lumix on screen was not as sharp/clear as the olympus. Obviously when both are viewed through a PC screen or printed is what counts, but still i wouldnt want to have to remind myself "it looks better on PC" everytime i check my photos on cam after i took them. As I wanted a DSLR instead of an M43 initially, but i had budget problems, i wanted something as close to a DSLR as possible. Having a hotshoe is definitely a plus since it now makes my EP3 just as versatile as any DSLR. I've just gotten a new lens, my next purchase will be a flash. Especially if you're still in the early stages of photography, having an OPTION is always better than having none. Side note, if you could stretch a little and dont mind buying online or from dealers instead, there's an EP3 set going for RM1700 in garage sales. Dealer says its new. Another is going for same price, 2nd hand EP3 with twin lens. Look it up! |

Even the fastest micro-sd is still a bit slow.
If ur shooting burst or raw, I suggest going with faster sdhc/sdxc uhs1 cards. |

Alright I've got the Oly E-PL3, twin lens. Spent the whole night learning the camera with the 14-42 MKIIR lens. Got a hang of it, but have to get used to the settings.
Tested its capability of capturing night landscape without a tripod. Managed to get a decent IQ. Impressed. |

Taken Sunday evening, went for a photowalk with my kakis. This was just before the storm, slight drizzle had already begun and I quickly got 6 shots to stitch into a big ass panorama. 2 rows, 3 columns.
Excuse the amount of noise, was shooting indoors in very poor lighting just before we got to the roof, so was shooting at ISO 3200. Completely forgot to reset the ISO settings cause I was too excited when I got to the roof. Regrets regrets ![]() Panorama KL by JonDoyou, on Flickr |

QUOTE(reno7 @ Apr 29 2013, 08:21 PM) Congratulations.. Hey thanks man. Have not thought about making any purchase yet. Still figuring the ways to max out both lens before considering. Prolly just gonna get a tripod for night landscapes.Put Raynox 250 on ur second lens the 40-150mm and u are good to go on macro shooting.. Forcing myself to use Manual as well just to figure out how to balance aperture, ISO and shutter speed for different situation. I have a simple question (I think), I understand 14-42 is best for landscapes for its wide angle and wide aperture. I've tried on the 40-150, it has great zoom and stuff but I couldn't get a hang of using it under low light condition. So guys, in what situation would you use 40-150? For zooming? Like birds and animals? |

As for low light there are 3 options to deal with it: Flash (External flash with diffuser), low aperture like F1.8-F2.8, high ISO. Or you can just bring your own light box/lamp and light the place up! |

For night shots, to my understanding, it is best to keep the ISO as low as possible and compensate with aperture lowest F-value and long shutter speed right? ISO as low as possible is true for all situations, night or day, as you'd want to keep the noise to a minimal. But it has to be bumped up if there is low light available. Not really much a fan of flash, unless maybe as fill in light Hypothetical situation :: In this case lets say your kitlens with the widest (lowest F-value) aperture is f/3.5, and your shutter at that point in time is 1/15sec with ISO at 100. If your subject is moving, 1/15sec wont get you much of a decent shot, cause of the long shutter and movement. So you bump ISO up to say 800 and maybe get a 1/64sec, which of course would be better than before. Of course it will always help if you have a wider aperture like f/1.4. But!.... ....If you need depth of field, so small (large f-value) apertures like f/14 may require a shutter speed too long for you to hold with your hands, or moving object. So you'd have to compensate with bumping ISOs. At least from the way I see it, you can never run away from bumping up the ISO unless its a planned shot, like night landscapes with tripods. Hope this helps! any sifus can correct me if i put down anything wrong. |

What you're saying does make sense but I guess this is where flash comes in handy if i don't wanna add grain to my shot. E-PL3 price for basic kit is at 1,499 with free bag and 8gig MC. Is this the current price right now or are there cheaper stores?

QUOTE(kenary820 @ May 4 2013, 03:27 PM) Bro looks like the dof too shallow, I would like to suggest get all in focus get as much details as you can and pp kaw2 add fire hehe Thanks for the comments @kenary820!! I really appreciate that. Since my shutter speed is already at its minimum (1/80) in handheld I can't stand still for even much longer to take a sharper picture. I use a cheap LED light for this picture and ISO at 200. Maybe I will try a much 'detail' picture next time! |

Hi, I'm new here. I would like to seek some professional advice on lens adapters.
I have a GF3 and my sister have a AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm lens. Any recommendation on what adapters should I get so I could use that lens on my micro 4/3? Does the adapter for J1 works on a GF3? Thanks. |

QUOTE(mingyuyu @ May 10 2013, 05:59 PM) They share the same m43 system at 2x crop factor. They can use each other's lenses and have no problem with each others' lens AF. People say Olympus has the edge becuase they have IS in their body. Olympus has built in sensor image stabilization which is a bonus edge feature when using prime lenses. For Panasonic this is not a big problem. Panasonic zoom lenses come with IS and prime lenses are fast enough to not need it. The difference are the camera features for each model. Let's compare GF5 twin kit lens with Epl3 twin kit lens: -GF5 is more suitable as a travel camera. Built in flash and pancake lens means you can make this whole package pocketable. This is basically a travel m43 on the go. (Built in flash, pan cake lens) -Epl3 twin set has more covered focal range with that telephoto zoom lens. It has a hot shoe to get more serious flash lighting. Its more versatile but its no pcoketable. But is small enough to not take up half your back pack like a DSLR. (Hot shoe, Telephoto Zoom) |

QUOTE(mingyuyu @ May 10 2013, 08:28 PM) I am going to shoot raw because I know how powerful a raw file is A Versus Canon perspective of describing what the IQ might look like on EPL3 and EPL5:GF5/Epl3 is a 12Mp has similar IQ to Canon G15. GF3 was described to be like a LX5 that can change lens. If you don’t ever plan to build m43 system/lenses you might be better off having an enthusiast compact that can fit in your pocket. A canon G15 can add macro lens filter and be very macro capable. GF6 and EPL5 is a 16Mp that has IQ similar to Canon EOS crop sensor cameras. EPL5 is using OMD’s 16Mp sensor. This sensor was described to be equivalent to Canon’s DSLR crop sensor. It’s a new powerful sensor but these also cost similar to DSLR price range. M43 lenses are also just as expensive as DSLR lenses. These are the cameras that make EOS M look so damn slow. EOS fails at Live view AF while M43 has a fast accurate Live View AF. Epl3 vs epl5 quite a difference in performance but so is the price (close to RM 1000 in price difference). You pay for what you get. This post has been edited by Rice_Owl84: May 11 2013, 11:44 AM |

Attended the "OLYMPUS NEW premiums PEN - Touch & Try Event (11th May 2013 - Session A)" this morning.
Overall okay event, showcasing the new Olympus PEN E-P5. There was a presso on the new PEN, some hands-on booths to play around with the E-P5, a small technology showcase on the IBIS and SWD functions. Ming Thein was also there to give a brief talk on M4/3rds and the new PEN in general. He also did a brief demo product shoot of the E-P5 with an E-P5 (of course) with straight OOC capture and printing. Results were quite good. You can check out some pics taken at the event below... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Hrmm.. not sure why the images aren't displaying... After the Olympus PEN EP-5 Touch & Try Event, especially after the Image stabilization demo comparison between EP-3 and OM-D.... I am now so sad for my EP-3.
Go to an EP-5 event, end up wanting an OM-D. I want an OM-D. |

Guys, nak tanya..
In street photography which involves moving objects (people) in low light condition (night time with some night market lights). How do you go about that handheld? You bump the ISO up? (noise+) You slow down the shutter speed? (camera shake, movement blur) What mode would you use? Thanks sifus |

And it's during night time with only some street lights and some night market lights. So in my current understand, I need to : - with 14mm (28mm equivalent) - so 1/30 to have no camera shake and to freeze movement, I need to have 1/80? - due to the fast shutter speed, I need to bump up the ISO to compensate the low light - to increase light input, I need to lower the F value (lowest 3.5 on kit lens) Am I correct on above? And when you said get a "brighter lens", you mean a fast lens (with low F number right?) |

Point number 2, i think you have typo? to compensate slow shutter wpeed with high ISO? Yes, from point number 1, let say u feel 1/80 is not not enough to freeze the moment, you can use hihger ISO so that can boost further up your shutter speed, say to 1/200. And for "brighter lens" means a fast lens with low F number you are correct bro Btw bro u using M mode to shoot? |

I'm not all that familiar with all the terminology but I have some general sense of understanding in this, so excuse my erm terms to answer 3 question above generally, point number 1 yup, if let say 1/30 is fast enough for you, 1/80 is even a safer number. Cause in my understanding, to capture movement we need fast shutter speed, this is generally okay during the day with ample light so I could let the ISO at its lowest (correct?). But in my scenario, low light + movement. So I need to have fast shutter speed to freeze movement and up the ISO to compensate the fast shutter speed. Am I wrong ? Ah, so people often say brighter/faster lens = low f number. I get it now. Thanks! And yes, I'm forcing myself to use M as I'm learning. I got below results (which are below average sigh). They all have the same common problem, they're underexposed. Exposure: 0.033 sec (1/30) (I guess this should be slower since my subjects are static but I worry about camera shake) Aperture: f/3.5 Focal Length: 14 mm ISO Speed: 200 (since I shouldn't lower the shutter speed as I might get camera shake, I think I should up the ISO correct?) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

I tried on a simulator where it shows my scenario perfectly. A moving subject + lowlight condition. It's hard to achieve sharp noiseless photo with 3.5 aperture. Too high of ISO gave more noise, too slow of shutter speed gave movement blur. To get in between, I lower my aperture to 2.8, lower my ISO to 400 and maintain my shutter speed. I guess this is why you sifus pay big $$ for fast/bright lens huh |

QUOTE(NISMOgan @ May 13 2013, 03:16 PM) hehe not 100% actually its quite flexible, erm say get a good camera body where its high ISO noise is still very good looking? hehe its just that fast lens gives u even more flexibility and good bokeh. What camera r u using bro? I think most of the modern m43 nowadays ISO 400 is nothing hehe btw i`m also a very very "ISO stingy" guy. i know how u feel lol spot on; on the "ISO stingy". I'm a very very picky person when it comes to pixel spotting. I just got my E-PL3. I haven't really did much indoor shots with low lights, so that was my first. I need to fix the WB and the exposure. And I should read my surrounding more. As I'm in a library, movements are minimal, I guess I could go lower and up the ISO to around 800. |

QUOTE(GameFr3ak @ May 13 2013, 03:35 PM) lol spot on; on the "ISO stingy". I'm a very very picky person when it comes to pixel spotting. I just got my E-PL3. I agree my GF2 Auto WB is better than my OM-D but i can live with it after some time hehee |

I shoot street from the hips, so i need wide FOV to capture whole bodies without risk of missing out the subjects head |

Guys, wanna ask your opinion.
I experimented with Double Exposure to blend 2 photos together in PS. I feel like something is missing, like tak ngam. Just wanna get more feedback to see what is wrong or what to improve. What do you guys think? ![]() Double Exposure by JonDoyou, on Flickr |

wanted to ask, is there any cheap and affordable fast primes in m4/3 system? for example in Canon there's the cheap 50mm and the same thing to Nikon.
I am asking this because this will be important if i want to change system since fast prime is a must for me. |

Guys, would it be good if I invest for a fast prime (20 or 25mm with around F1.5) for low light street and indoor shots?
This will be in addition with my existing 14-42mm(day light and night landscapes with tripod) & 40-150mm (zoom). Yay or Nay? |

Hey guys, I'm kind of a newbie here, thinking of getting the EPL3 but I don't know which one to pick, the basic kit or the twin lens. Can somebody tell me what the 14-42mm is for? And the 40-150mm?
I normally like to shoot people and landscapes. Not so much on the macro stuff. |

Planning to get 60mm f2.8 macro next @inanthensome, Get the twin lens if you're not sure what lens you want, that way you get more to explore, and sell off and buy new lens if you find it's not for you. Plus, getting the twin lens kit will be cheaper if you buy the lens separate. 14-42 will suit your needs more, because it is wide enough to shoot landscapes. 40-150mm is a zoom lens, too tele for you to shoot a person that's 5 steps in front of you. both lens can be used to shoot people and landscapes, depending on how you use them. |

The hotel lobby sometimes looks bright, but when you meter --> mostly I notice only give you 1/4s - 1/10s at f4. What you need is to know what your limit for steady hand, and what the min shutter speed to compensate human movement. Blur because of camera shake vs human movement is two different thing, which one still useable in most condition. If you do function flash is way to go, it give contrast and subject standout. |

Hey thanks for the tips. I've just tested some shots with the default flash + a diy diffuser. The result was great (IMO).The photo was shot at night with low indoor lights. I've tested shots with movement as well. Near zero movement blur, very satisfied. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « That's gonna be my next test, to test at what speed I need to be to compensate human movement. I've read a lot about minimum shutter speed for different focal length. For 14mm, I need to be at 1/30 (no 28). And I figure I need at around 1/125 to minimize movement blur. And I totally agree that movement blur > camera shake. And flash is the way to go. But if I throw flash out of the equation, is a lens with F1.4 gonna save me? It's gonna give 2-3 stops I think? |

But if I throw flash out of the equation, is a lens with F1.4 gonna save me? It's gonna give 2-3 stops I think? Can't find any articles about this. But you can try to simulate what a F1.4 can do for you. Shoot at F3.5 at max ISO 3200 and see if that captures what you want, ignore the noise and see if it got the brightness and the picture you want. Well that picture you can take at ISO 400 f1.4. Though its not accurate but something like that simulates what a wide aperture can do for you. Oh and don't forget F1.4 can really blur your background with its shallow DOF. It can really blur things. I shot a couple and the girl's face was super sharp but the boy's face was quite blurry. This post has been edited by Rice_Owl84: May 15 2013, 09:58 AM |

Sharing a few snaps from my recent trip to Redang. Mighty impressed with E-M5's dynamic range.

QUOTE(Rice_Owl84 @ May 15 2013, 09:54 AM) Can't find any articles about this. Just got home and did a quick test out of curiosity. With same shutter speed I observe same brightness between these settings F3.5@ISO3200 and F1.4@ISO800.Oh and don't forget F1.4 can really blur your background with its shallow DOF. It can really blur things. I shot a couple and the girl's face was super sharp but the boy's face was quite blurry. |

So there is a puffer pop up flash diffuser for specifically for Olympus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1OOeNonxrk . Anyone know a shop that has this (THE VER. MADE FOR M43!)?
This would be a key igredient to deciding on buy an Olympus or not. This post has been edited by Rice_Owl84: May 15 2013, 08:45 PM |

I don't like to use built-in camera flash. Consumes battery, can't bounce the light.
Only use it when really necessary with no external flash. |

QUOTE(Mowgly @ May 13 2013, 06:26 PM) I use EP-3 not really all pricey la unless olympus n panasonic then yes loh.... With lens im not so familiar, as m43 lenses are very very expensive. So now still using kit lens and legancy 50mm f1.8 olympus. But I would always use wide angle for street photography. I shoot street from the hips, so i need wide FOV to capture whole bodies without risk of missing out the subjects head but u can go for sigma if u attempt wide angle.. |

Hey thanks for the test man. So yeah that means with 1.4 I could use lower ISO thus lower noise. But I'll try using the flash with some DIY diffuser if this works then I'll save my $ for something else.. |

QUOTE(subrok007 @ May 16 2013, 09:40 AM) not really all pricey la unless olympus n panasonic then yes loh.... The problem is bro, most of the lens available for m43 are range from 1k and above. Our kitlens itself also 1k. So in that aspect I would consider expensive because we dont have many option for 3rd party lens like DSLR, which can come at about 1/3 the price.but u can go for sigma if u attempt wide angle.. Olympus 12mm f/2 wide angle lens also 2.5k+ (Shashinki 2.6k). In terms of availability of lens compared to DSLR market, m43 still very limited to the big companies. So monopolize the price lor. at least thats what i think la. |

you have the point.. yes compare to DSLR market, m43 lens really expensive almost above rm1k.. only sigma lens are lower rm1k but not much choice lor.. hopefully aftermarket can come up with competitive la.. |

But if you compare DSLR good lens, to M43's good lens, same focal lenght, example Canon or Nikon's 24-70mm f2.8 to Panasonic's 12-35mm f2.8 IS, DSLR is still more expensive.

New m43 user here. Just got my Panasonic GX1 yesterday and working on getting the lenses now
Long time (D)SLR and I would say m43 are cheaper on the long run. Lets not just talk about the lenses but the capacity needed to store them safely and also the extensive care you need if you have expensive tele primes like I do. Though a 35-100mm f/2.8 cost you around RM3600 but at least it is RM4500 cheaper than Nikon 70-200mm VR II AF-S. I have tested that lens yesterday and it feels and handles like my Nikon 80-200mm AF-S with a smaller price tag. Not to mention you save lots in the storage investment too. I had like RM6000 worth of cases just to lug my gears around but with m43, all I have to get is Think Tank Mirrorless Mover that cost you below RM500. In the long run in term of investment, m43 are the most cost saving and have nearly a complete range of lenses. Though I am still dreaming only if they would come out a 200mm f/4 prime tele, I would be a happier person |

One of my inspiration source is this : http://micromotorsport.wordpress.com/
I take motorsports mostly and some events thrown here and there and as days goes by, I start to find that a smaller camera body will do wonders and lighten up my carriage weight as well as be more "concealed". I even started to see a few press shooters on mirrorless doing motorsports got me to initiate my research about it. That is how I got myself in love with GX1, for its size and no-nonsense button placement and mode changes. Pricing isn't a concern as long as you know what to buy and what not to buy |

Hmmmmm need to confirm this tho..... My eyes are still on M43 studying that system all because of Blackmagic Pocket Cine Camera will be using the M43 system. Now I would probably just buy the lens and skip Panasonic/Olympus cameras but they price their basic lens so high that getting camera+twin kit sets are even cheaper and far more worth it. MFT system is growing with these brands also being involved: Blackmagic with their pocket cine camera - Being highly observed by videographers. Double the attention for the MFT system because Panasonic GH3 is quite reputable in the video world too. Sigma - Making cheap alternative F2.8 primes for MFT. Let's hope Sigma brings in their famous F1.4 primes too! Tamron - VC technology in a telephotozoom is being introduced to this system. VC tech is supposedly the best Image stabilization tech in the camera world. Samyang - Cheap Ulra Wide Fisheye lens (manual only), as you know fisheye is always super expensive but samyang has a very affordable lens in this category. So I'm planning ahead to get a base incase: -I go for the blackmagic. -Need a more smaller/mobile camera. -A secondary camera (Using two cameras on the spot is better than changing lens on the spot.) |

Just bought Panasonic GF3+14mm pancake. This is going to be a nice travel/mobile camera. And really nice to know that once I get an adapter I can use my canon lenses. And nifty fifty is light so can also be added to my travel inventory.
Testing out my GF3 with my 50mm F1.8: ![]() ![]() 2nd pic was using macro tube with the 50mm F1.8. Just need to get that EF to MFT adapter to take these pics more easily. This post has been edited by Rice_Owl84: May 21 2013, 09:25 PM |

Hi guys. Im selling my canon system to get into convenience of m43 system. Im quite a traveller and a dslr on my neck always stressd me out. Based on your experience, did changing system change your picture quality as well? Im afraid of losing something most importance along with the weight. Currently im using 7d n my walkaround lens is 24-70mm 2.8l. Thanks.

And I don't like Panasonic's Photo studio software. Not too sure if olympus also saves under another raw format too.Actually I also probably need to check if Adobe or some other photoshop software can edit m43's raw. |

Bokeh and speed are still great for these lenses Pana also has the 12-35mm 2.8 but I don't have one so I can't vouch for its quality.. |

YongNuo flash is cheap.
But I don't know which model to get with m43. I had the YN580II with my Nikon D7000. If I put that on my EM5, it feels a bit off balance. |

where you get your price reference?
actually i can't decide to get the 60mm macro lens first, or the 45mm f1.8 because the 45mm is cheaper. do you think olympus will come out a 25mm f1.4 lens? |

The price i get is Penang market via phone
actually 60mm can shoot in any mode of photography, it means to macro but not necessary only for macro ma. only the downside compare 45mm is F1.8 and longer Focal Length, the rest is about same.. can shoot landscape, street or watever. The Pro is dedicate macro lo.. hopefully olympus come out with 25mm F1.2 then awesome liao.. olympus quite expensive is compare to panasonic.. it didnt bundle with hoods and lens storage.. compare with panasonic like 25mm does. even the 12mm F2.0 expensive lens also no bundle. quite sad.. Wah everyone buy dedicated m43 lenses. Under budget, I buy manual/legacy lenses also I happy
Although true, if oly comes up with a 25mm/28mm prime, I think I would pick it up. Now looking at the Oly 12mm prime, might just be a near future investment. I don't want manual/legacy lens because size and weight.
or maybe i just haven't got the chance to try one on my camera, so i don't feel like getting manual/legacy lens. |

QUOTE(subrok007 @ May 30 2013, 09:42 PM) Oo my, sure gonna get this. I just decided to get OMD-EM5 and 17mm f1.8. Oo no, I just did put an order from Bintang BBPlaza last friday. Am I making a wise decision guys? For a street price, I got 2800 for the body and 1440 for the lens. Is that a good offer? |

Hi guys,
I m planning to get either the oly or panny... currently was offered RM1.9k for either EPL-5 + 1440 or GX1 - 1442 + 14 2.8 Any reason i shouldnt go for either one of them? I m a fan of prime lens, often shoot with 50 1.4 when i use my D700, so this is gonna be my travel cam. But i still need a versatile prime on the range of 35mm (at 35mm equiv.) preferably faster lens. |

I also choose the Oly E-PL5 becos of IBIS and better image sensor same as OMD ones(better dynamic range and lower noise in high iso).. Not to forget the tiltable lcd and punchier oly ooc jpeg colour.. Prime lens can be bought later.. then u shouldn't go wrong with leica 25mm F1.4.... fast enough |

Hmm.... thts a tough choice...
Like the E-PL5, but I m quite attracted at the low price of GX1... Any other options besides this? trying to keep my cost at less than 2k and hopefully comes with primes |

Anyone went to the Harvery Norman warehouse sales last weekend?
I bought my OMD + 12-50mm kitlens in the sales for RM2399. i was actually targeting the EPL3 as they were throwing the price for RM799 with kit lens but last minute the guy suddenly offered me the OMD for RM2399. I also got Olympus TG-820 weatherproof for only RM200. Still learning how to use the OMD as M43 is very different from my D7000. |

the warehouse sales was only for 3 days and they had an auction thing going on during the auction...the guy on the MIC would just auction things at the price that he likes....i saw him selling off a 65" samsung LED (Retail 14999) for only RM1k
http://www.shoppingnsales.com/2013/05/31/3...warehouse-sale/ it was in Citta Mall's B1 Carpark and its hot and stuffy.... the OMD's interface is very different with so much more function when compares to the D7000 by the way, anyone knows how much is the Olympus 17mm@F1.8 lens and where to get d m43 to C mount lens adapter? i have several c mount CCTV megapixel lens with me and it want to try it out with the OMD. sounds like the best warehouse sale ever! I would go crazy if I'm there. Then I'll be eating bread for the rest of the month or few months.
Played with a new friend's 45mm f1.8 few days ago. Like the sharpness and bokeh. I regret not playing with his 25mm f1.4, was rushing to somewhere else. @subrok007 I bought my 17mm f1.8 around that price too. next lens i'm planning to get is 60mm f2.8 macro. |
