[Major issues processing applications. Will update accordingly]
Free bill until 31 December 2019 (pro-rated based on "service activation date") for both existing and unifi users
https://unifi.com.my/campaign/paynothing
Important notes:
1. Please note that there is no new CPE (device) provided under this promo (if high speed plan but old router, likely you'll need to fork out your own money to buy a proper router)
2. If you terminate your service subscription within the contract period, you will be charged with the remaining months of your package fee as pentalty (Instead of RM500?)

Note: Information below may no longer updated or maintained

UNIFI Connection issue reports and history: https://s2g.my/tm-unifi-streamyx-2018-netwo...ysis-and-fixes/

Are you using UNIFI now in Sabah/Sarawak? Please post your Speedtest, experience or anything you willing to share regarding UNIFI!

What is known (TL;DR version):
1. UniFi (30&50Mbps) and UniFi 100Mbps is now available everywhere for all eligible areas
2. No bandwidth caps in the foreseeable future unless specified
3. Contract period of 24 months and termination during contract period penalty of RM500 (may subject to changes and terms)
4. UniFi30 and UniFi50's upload speed has been updated as follow (not important unless you're into hosting and uploading content):
UniFi30 - from 5Mbps to 10Mbps
UniFi50 - from 10Mbps to 20Mbps
If you are still having the old upload speed, you must call 100 and tell your "account still using old setting". No need for any technician to come in your premise even if they say so (happened to me)
5. Existing users Sarawak and Sabah of 30Mbps and 50Mbps (and possibly others) are eligible for a RM10 upgrade to the next tier. Example if you're using 30Mbps, you only need to pay RM10 more every month to get 50Mbps and so on. This is a time limited and possibly 1-time offer. Personal opinion: if using long term, you are crazy not to take up this offer!

[Important note: Promo price only valid for the duration of your 2 years contract!]. NO free unlimited phone calls (If previously on VIP Plan) for fixed lines and HyppTV Jumbo Pack

Existing users:

Will I be charged for installation?

http://i.imgur.com/zP0tGZz.jpg
Important Note: Most common installation that does not require 'extended' internal wiring is FREE. If technician still say otherwise, just tell them this is not the case. If they still insist on payment just request a receipt. I am hearing reports of installations being charged even though it should be free

What is the expected process after subscribing UNIFI?

Hope to have a place where we can talk and update about how (slow) Unifi is rolling out in Sarawak especially for Kuching

What is known (for sure):
1. Rates are the same
2. No bandwidth caps, sauce:tech(until further notice?)
3. Installation is free, sauce:agent

not yet, only for Jalan Stadium & Demak Baru side (the area near the Stadium Negeri there). But Matang should be rolled out soon.

Link fixed - just enter your address like jalan * or just kuching then enter the small fields to filter by certain key words only

you have to filter the results. Either type kuching under 'city' or sarawak under 'state'

I'm talking about KK city center. For your place, Kingfisher Park (the one on the way to UMS/1Borneo right?) you may be able to get it earlier. My place (at Kolombong) should be able to get it by the end of this year, while my sister's house at Putra Jaya can already get it.

Kolombong still doesn't have it, but should be available shortly, the end of the year should have it. KK city center like Kg. Air or Asia City will have it late (2015?). A little bit further out, like Sembulan/Sadong Jaya may also has it by the end of this year.

I'm talking about the Kolombong Industrial Park area, you know, from the junction where the Giant Kolombong is located all the way to Nountun Industrial Park. TM seems to target for business users first in this build-up, the opposite of what they have done in Telipok and PutraJaya where they target residential areas. Only those who lives in residential areas within those industrial parks such as Nountun Apartment, Taman Dai Ming Baru, Taman Mewah et al. may get the splash of it.

Bunga Raya/Iramanis is the one near Luyang right? That probably isn't included in this phase. Then again, Sembulan isn't supposed to get it in this phase either but they should get it then.

We in Sabah probably will never see Maxis fiber optic here. At best, only HSBB-powered Maxis fiber optic service. I do know that P1 will also provide their service eventually here in Sabah, over the HSBB line, but not really sure for Maxis.

For Streamyx 8MB, it depends on your line really. If you don't have >40dB SNR margin using ADSL2+ modulation at 2048, then it is highly unlikely you can get it.

ok, I think I know where. You can try to create demand list and get your neighbours to do it too. Who knows it might speed up unifi availability in your taman.

Hi, I just terminate my Maxis LTE broadband as I finish off my quota of 5GB within a week. I am just a light internet user and I don't know how did this happen. I have difficulties to finish my 5GB internet quota under Digi 3G.

I am considering to switch back to Streamyx and this unifi come into my mind. Can you guys enlighted me what is the different between Streamyx and unifi?

Thank you.

I'm working in Singapore and when LTE was introduced, everyone saw their data usage jump and exceed really fast. Didn't help that with the introduction of "4G LTE" all the telcos decided to reduce caps from 12gb to 2-5gb. So why does this happen... it isn't really a technical difference, but a behavioural one. Lightning fast speed usually makes you consume more data as users tend browse more/load more things.

Streamyx is a ADSL (works on traditional telephone lines) offering whereas UniFi is based on fiber optics (needs installation and new wiring). Definitely get UniFi if it is available in your area.

Jalan Song is the earliest batch by far, like 4 years or 5 years back?
And Wan Alwi is also quite new since early 2013 if not mistaken, even heard rumour about the TM laying cables in Pending area but sadly no TM calling up yet. Checked and called as well. yawn.gif
Also near my house I saw some TM guys laying cables, thought it was a Fiber Optic but it seems it's not it, *sigh* still waiting.. waiting... doh.gif

Hmm, white box? Going to be on lookout on my way home.

There are bunch of digging & laying [something] along the road from around Taman Malihah, Kuching > MJC, Kuching I wonder what are those stuff about. Surely not water pipe? Maybe just normal cable... sweat.gif sweat.gif

If got fiber optic passing there... wonder if possible to ask for a THREE KILOMETER branch into my home lol.
Don't think they will even willing to lay 3km of normal cooper wire... wink.gif

If you know where your Streamyx remote DSLAM is located, you can also look out for a cabinet with the C prefix, usually smaller than the phone line cabinet. That one will come up first before the white boxes on telephone poles, although not all areas served by a particular phone cabinet will get HSBB.

Not necessarily. The white box can be there on the telephone pole in front (or behind) your house, but 6 months later you can still not allowed to subscribe to the service. Just ask some of the Luyang people about that mad.gif mad.gif

Huge swaths of Luyang, at least the western side of Jalan Kolam from the Luyang township all the way to in front of RTM building. As of January people can only look at the white boxes without being able to subscribe to it. Those boxes has been there for quite some time already.

The KBU C0xx is a HSBB cabinet. All C-prefix cabinets here are one. If you see that at your Streamyx remote DSLAM exchange, there is a chance that your lorong may be served. That is not always the case though. Did you see the white box at the telephone pole yet?

I see. I'm surprised Luyang Perdana( near the library ) got it so much earlier. TM installed the white boxes on my street about 3 weeks ago. Some said it would be available as early as March/April, latest June.

yea white box already installed with the splice box at the end of the street. My area is near Foh Sang, every street here has the white boxes on the telephone poles.

The guy at the booth that was setup by the road side. A few booths were setup around the areas I mentioned previously.

Contacted my broadband centre s/b today, they can't give a definite date for Unifi availability. So will just wait for them to call.

When will Damai KK get it's Unifi? It's painful to know that it's available in some parts of the town and the outskirts of KK but not in the bloody centre of it, especially when there's tonnes of business premises and housing that's been waiting for ages like myself.

I feel you man. Just got to wait patiently. They had a roadshow at CityMall not long ago, sent Unifi flyers to my home and set up booths by the road side around my area, now habuk pun tidak ada. laugh.gif

Ipoh city centre(right in the middle of city) also not yet get, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri already have the town almost covered.

Sarawakians must be very lucky to get government attention.

I have been registering for interest for my area for few years, probably 5 years since its launch in Kuching, still not yet, what more it's just a street away, and you know what's the representative said at PC fair? "Oh, that's totally another area, unknown status (walk away...)", wtf? mad.gif

Yeah I'm standing the same side as you too.

Kuching and Ipoh has same importance as major cities in Malaysia if not close to what the Klang Valley is in Malaysia.

In the middle of Kuching areas like Plaza Merdeka already got UniFi?

Why I am expressing my dissatisfaction here is because in Ipoh here even in the middle of the city where the country's best performing UTC, we still don't have UniFi available for public until today after close to 6 years since UniFi launched.

While I still see smaller cities/towns like Miri, Sandakan, Bintulu already getting covered.

How does TM run their planning division?

Ipoh's city population is bigger than Kuching.

It is more than twice of Miri.

Unifi got much better upload speed. Really useful if you want to send/upload hugh image or video files. And latency should be better too, at least from your house to the nearby cabinets.

Don't think so. I'll have to check. Slow internet speed is really bad for business. We already have one each of Maxis, P1 and the normal Streamyx split between numerous devices so some can run faster than others.

I just got back from KL. Could have cried, the wifi was so fast.

Interestingly, I have seen TM constructors laying out cables around Taman Kingfisher. (NOT SULAMAN).

Can anybody give me a clear photo how a Unifi Box/Tower thingy looks like in your park? I'm not referring to the white box which hangs on the pole.

The whole unifi project in Sabah is fail.
The development of laying out the fibers are total in the wrong direction. Which mean they mesh up the whole process of providing the service on time. Which mean unknown delaying.

I manage to talk with some of the contractors that's responsible of the laying fibers.
They put priorities at settle area which have influenced by politicians. So it end up they lost a lot of fund and no profit because of extremely low demand of the area, compare with highly demand area like town area and sub urban that close to town.
Something like 100 port avalaible but only 5 being occupied.

The technical people installing the fiber optic cables said should be next year. An agent I talked with mention that it can be as early as September this year if all testing goes well. Please note that I asked specifically on Stapok area but still in the same area as MJC

[KUCHING] UNIFI officially available for LIMITED AREAS around Stapok, Stampin and surrounding areas

People in this area are eligible to register NOW for UNIFI. Proper contractors will do the required installation mid August ONCE your application has been processed/approved (may take up to 1 week). You will know if you are eligible if you see the application form in your mailbox

Just submitted my application form yesterday. Apparently (for Sarawak atleast) if you choose to keep an existing landline ontop of the UNIFI number, you will still have to pay +RM1 every month.

Because of that, I decided to terminate all current landlines and just make use of the UNIFI number. Just note that the UNIFI phone would not function without the modem on so should an event such as during power blackout occur, you will NOT be able to use your phone

For the UNIFI number, you only get to choose the last 4 digits. The number prefix may be a special number and not area anymore (eg no longer 082 for Kuching)

I'm at Jalan Kapor which is between Green Rd and Stapok. UNIFI is widely available at this area and will continue to expand seeing them doing works up towards Green Rd and Stapok. I am not certain where exactly in Stampin is available but it is definitely a available in limited areas according to a TM agent

Just confirmed with a TM point representative that UNIFI30 and UNIFI50 are eligible for all customers in Kuching. Brochures and packages are added for your reference. All terms similar to old VIP packages except for things like upload speed and free fixed line calls

[Kuching] Would like to clarify that for the new areas such as Stampin and Stapok/MJC/Green Road area that UNIFI infrastructure are NOT FULLY COMPLETED YET but will be soon. Which means there will be significant delays for certain areas

You should only apply if you see the TM technicians laying out the fiber cables or agents at your area's roadside which means it is indeed coming soon. If still not sure, you can check with TM point Batu Lintang

All I can say is I just saw some TM guys near Poh Kwong Park 2 days ago working on the UNIFI hub there which is very near your area. You may be able to go to a TM point to register your interest and make sure you tell them your area is near some areas that are already available/upcoming

If the box is white in colour, most probably it's for unifi. I remember someone posted some photos of some small white box with 'TM' written on it hanging on a pole.

Here is possibility TM is pulling fibre optics cable but I cannot confirm that this is fibre optic cable or just a normal phone wire.

you can search in google with this
pulling fiber optic cable

Its really looks similar like pulling fiber optic cable.

Few months ago, I was submitted a request for Unifi in Sandakan to MCMC through Aduan SKMM.
Few weeks later, a Malay girl who was called from TM and told me that currently Sandakan don't have unifi. However, she added up, they will begin to install unifi after 6 months. Which mean is next year at 2016. I can't confirm whether this is true.

[Kuching] Anyone applied for UNIFI recently and received a response? It has been one month since I submitted my application form and I even check with 100 helpline. They said their HQ has yet to process my application.

Also, saw major UNIFI expansion for Swinburne and Ong Tiang Swee area. Meanwhile 93150 has been REMOVED from the coverage listing. It might mean that they're not ready yet or worst. Me (and my agent) apologize for any misleading information as we received all information from official technician or TM point staff

If it starts with 'C' then it is HSBB cabinet. Usually just a little bigger than the electrical meter box.

No, the cabinet starts with 'C', not the usual 'F' or 'VF'. The white thing in my picture before isn't the cabinet. The cabinet is somewhere away from there.

HashtagLive is a community social media event which is born in Kuching, Sarawak, with intention to highlight talents on social media.

The event intends to bring those hashtags social media users always use on their social media post, to life. Aimed at highlighting the yet to be discovered talents on social media, a selected few hashtags will be used to bring numerous hashtags like music, art, gaming, sales(shops) to life, providing these 'yet to be known' artist to introduce their talents to the masses for FREE! This opportunity is rare considering most events nowadays are money centric, in which they will only bring in well known people/merchants/artist to get the biggest crowd.

Aside from that HashtagLive would also be used as a platform educate the public and social media users on doing charity, volunteerism and social media issues. On top of that all, HashtagLive would bring people of diverse backgrounds together at one spot, and hence promote friendship and unity.

wow that house sure is packed with tonnes of cables.

Wow, so that KBU C017 is the offical cabinet used for Unifi in Kota Kinabalu? That sure looks very small, wasn't anything I expected.
You seems to know all coverage very well, the funny thing is Unifi coverage tracker seems to be out-of-date where lots of fibre covered area are not been listed, for example Bukit Sepangar (used to be listed.)

Today, I've seen official TM contractors (confirmed) pulling cables (most probably fibre) all long these path, targeting the new government skyscraper (not sure what it's called).

The coverage tracker has never been reliable. So is for future upgrade coverage. Ever-changing coverage upgrade plans are not out of ordinary at all.

It depends on the contractors.
You're in luck if they had laid fibre cables in your condo.
Chances area VDSL might deteriorate your Unifi speeds, since its data transfer rate may not be as fast as fibre optics. The effects might be significant if it's to serve 50mpbs and above.

Planning to upgrade from 2 Mb streamyx to 5 Mb Unifi.

Like to know from those who are using Unifi on:

AA
Do they keep the old phone wiring and hook this up to the new fibre unit? I have phone upstair. Hope that they don't have to lay new wiring for the additional phones.

BB
My TV is in the living room while my modem/router are in my study room.

I prefer to keep the existing locations for the TV, routers, PC etc. But I also want to minimise length of cabling.

Can they maintain your original system layout without relocating things around too much?

Thanks.

Hey guys, anyone have idea for hows the cabling works / charges about? My area just recently upgraded, and thank God that the fiber box just right onsite of my house (they hanged it on the electricity pole). But I wonder hows the cabling thing works. Does we need to pay for the cabling outside premise or just inside house premise only?

Nvm. Found the answer on 1st page. blush.gif

Same boat. laugh.gif Anyways, the dealer call me again. Said there' something wrong with the box setting. Should be able to go live by next week. So, see how it goes. Seems like TM are assigning 1 port per house regardless of are you going to subs or not. So if your port hasn't ready, then you gotta wait until it is done. sleep.gif

TM dealer called said have submitted my application, and 2hrs later I got email from TM said my application is being process and contractor will come over for cable installation. laugh.gif

But anyways, I have question here. It seems like they are applying separate line eh. sweat.gif Means I will have 2 phone line after the installation is done. Anyone having problem like me? Are there any way to "migrate" my existing number to the new unifi line?

Afraid I can't give you a straight answer as I have heard multiple answers regarding this. But you SHOULD be given an opportunity to 'assign one EXISTING line as a complimentary line as part of the transfer from Streamyx to Unifi'. I am not sure about other scenarios like only land line> Unifi

Yaya.. I actually been to TM point today to ask about this matter. For streamyx user that upgrade to unifi, you will have two line at home (this is that if you want to retain your existing streamyx tel numbers).

So the procedure its, after unifi successfully install at your place, then you will need to go TM point and inform the CS that you want to terminate the your streamyx account BUT you want to retain your existing number. They will do the adjustment accordingly by terminate your streamyx, waive your streamyx tel line rental and retain your number. An add on RM1 + GST will be charge to the bill for retain the old streamyx tel number. And any call make from that number will be charge accordingly.

TM CS suggest to use the streamyx line to receive call and call out with unifi line. icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif

Just as a reference to give an idea on how long you have to wait after submitting your UNIFI application (atleast via an agent, for Kuching): I submitted my application via an agent on 28 July 2015.

Today I first got an 'official' call regarding my application on my preferred UNIFI number (as the one I entered in the form is not available). After that, I got an SMS that my installation will be this saturday (17 October 2015).

So in summary, the time from application to installation is: 2 months, 19 days

Finally got my UniFi installed yesterday. Was actually going for VIP5 but last minute changed to the promo 30Mbps and so far it's been simply incredible. I wasn't expecting the quality to live up to expectation as I have been stuck with the old awful Streamyx 1Mbps for so long. I'll let the images speak for themselves:

Got mine installed this evening. Bet the first few that got it in that Lorong that I live at. But there's problem with the speed. With laptop and PC, I can't seems to get pass 8Mb for both upload and download via speedtest. Sometime, it drop below 3Mb.. Especially the upload.

But it were perfectly fine when I test using my phone (oneplus one) with the speedtest apps and test from the same server (celcom kch).

My 8mb streamyx still on going, if anyone said there's problem with my PC / laptop, then why I can get full speed test doing speed test under the same device when I hop on my streamyx line? hmm.gif Weird right.

Sure. Will do it when I get back? Which location? A normal cmd ping will suffice?

Speedtest.net is NOT a proper reliable way of measuring your speed. You may only get 3Mbps to that test site in California but I'm totally downloading full 30Mbps with the help of a download manager or another software.

The 'best' way depends on your usual usage. I'm a gamer and download a lot of stuff so it's only usual that I use my proffered download tool for my testing (which is IDM and uTorrent, which both easily downloads up to 30Mbps) and also the connection quality such as ping.

Well, I did what you mentioned too. Burst speed on IDM, yea 1.2Mb/s.. After 1mins drop back to 500kb+. Torrent with Xunlei plat accounts, same as well. Once burst, it hits the maximum speed and after that drop like 40-50% of what I suppose to have. While my streamyx account didn't give such issue. On a site note, my ping test sucks. 50-100ms. I'm like you, heavy downloader. If streamyx, its understandable for ping below 100ms are counted good. But on fiber and ping is above 10ms, something not write. I suspect unifi having issue on their routing.

Lodged my complaint at batu lintang today, the teller write and send email to their tech team right infront of me. Not bad. laugh.gif

An easy way to determine the probability of getting unifi services:
1. Locate the TM cabinet.
2. Are they any sign of dark greyish paint coated on the entire cabinet and with proper labelling present on it?
3. Look around and locate a hole ( rectangular shape and cemented boundary ) if there's any.

Chances are high if 2 or 3 are present.

or

Hunt for a TM contractor/engineer and go ahead ask em.

Hope it helps.

locate a hole? if i am not wrong, few weeks ago, there has been some renovation near the road side but i didnt notice about this really. what is the use of this?

You stay at condo as well? How's the speed if condo? If not wrong, for those who stay at condo, use ADSL 2+ and not fiber right?

The hole is used to place a smaller cabinet used for Fibre connections.

Based on various posts that I've read, ADSL2+ can only support upto 30mbps. If you're in luck, your condo might have fibre laid out.

I was just noticed Sandakan at some Taman-taman area such as Taman Tyng, Taman Wemin, Taman Lucky, Taman Pertama and Taman Tshun Ngen already got Unifi. Now I just hoping that Unifi will comes to Taman Utama too. Since all that Unifi areas are located at Mile 5. I hope Unifi will available at Taman Utama as soon as I will moved to my new house (Taman Utama) at next year.

I just hope I can subscribe 30mbps for RM179 per month package as soon as I move to my new house later.

Actually at this year, I got make 2 complaints to MCMC. First one of course is Unifi availability in Sandakan. Second is poor Digi coverage in Sandakan. Since TM and Digi are care about my complaints because I am making report directly to MCMC. Now Sandakan already begin to serve unifi and 4G at many areas. My iPhone is now in LTE mode. Used to be 3G last time before I made complaint to MCMC. Since Digi got call me back at August, they say they are upgrading satellites tower. At May of this year, I got make complaint about Unifi availability to MCMC, few weeks later, a Malays girl who comes from TM and call me, she said Sandakan soon will got Unifi after 6 months. during that time, is about June of this year. So after 6 months is next year January. I use my Taman Utama address to make report during that time, so I guess Unifi should be arrived to Taman Utama at next year.

Kota Kinabalu.

TM are working really swiftly to upgrade its existing network in Sabah and Sarawak which is great, after 4 year, that is.

Where is your area? Taman Utama? I think next year Taman Utama 100% confirm will have Unifi. Since common sense, Taman Tyng is just the opposite of Giant and Giant is located at IJM Land. Then Taman Utama is belong to IJM Land. That's confirmed that Taman Utama will has Unifi at next year. Not only Taman Utama but Unifi will soon expand till mile 4. Since in Sandakan here the main Taman-Taman with middle to high income are located at mile 5 until mile 6. They will concentrate on the middle to high income families first because Unifi is not served for low income families since the price is not cheap also.

hahahhaha biggrin.gif biggrin.gif rclxms.gif
if they want to install that white boxes, they just need few days only. Now they are still pulling the fiber optic cable at underground around that area. Pulling cable need to take long time to complete.

this video was taken by me at last year. unifi may soon expand widely to whole Sabah but not just KK and Sandakan in some small area.

I have to say I also faced this only very recently in regards to my UniFi installation and after it. Some girl's from their UniFi 'service center' were very helpful throughout the process. If it means getting proper internet to the masses, I'm all for it

Yea, their team that come over also very friendly. Sit down do testing, and calling then still explain to me (very basic to me as myself is CCNA network engineer), but really appreciate their efforts. Honest speaking, apart of the pricing issue I'd say TM customer service are so much better than their previous record. Thumbs up!

Guys, I need some guidance to reach tmnet that I want unifi in my area as well.

I live at Lorong Kempas 16A, Jalan Kempas, 93350 Kuching. My max available speed is only 1mb streamyx. I had been asking them every year ever since 3 year ago, or almost every time i go pay bill, but no result. I ask them why no 4mb or at least 2mb, they would always reply the same stuff like 'becos ur area is getting unifi upgrade soon' and when i say when, they told me 'next year', almost everytime, so next year and next year i waited and tired of asking, i really wan a better internet. Is it too much to ask?

Please if any1 know a way i could gain their attention, please guide me how. Thank You.

@OP
I am certain TM is going to cover almost all area within 88450 postcode. Previously, probably only 20%, its expanding.
Lots of TM construction on-going.
Also, we do have Unifi 30 in Sabah.

Sure you can complaint directly to CFM or MCMC. CFM is an organizer under MCMC. Usually I will just head to MCMC directly. Since last time I claim warranty for my iPhone 6 Plus was also complaint to them. Just complaint Digi kaw kaw until they scare about me already haha.

Just complaint at http://aduan.skmm.gov.my
Click on the "New Complaint" at the right side of that portal.

My place no unifi

Only full of 1 mbps user, 4Mbps here is really limited, and only one housing area has 8Mbps

Really hope UniFi will come to our place, but very likely not gonna happen until other major city and towns are covered

Come on TM, we need better speed, 4mbps no longer enough for today needs

Hope that those in E Msia can help me here.

Like to know if you have Unifi Advance 30 WITH FREE CALLS (additional request to TM Point). In W Msia, some people can get free calls with the package. So like to know whether TM E Msia practises that or not. I have asked in Bintulu and the TM Point lady is waiting for the boss in Kuching to reply.

BB
How is Unifi in E Msia? Most of the time AOK with high speed or faced with regular slow speed? hmm.gif

I want to upgrade from streamyx 2 Mbps to Unifi 30 Mbps for streaming (AND CANCEL ASTRO!) They have installed the optic fibers in my area last year. So can install here. rclxm9.gif

Thanks. biggrin.gif

Bintulu.

Let me know which towns your friends managed to get the free calls. Then I will ask TM Point manager to cross check with the managers there. They tend to just follow the normal rules. Heard of some free calls in W Msia. We tend to be behind on things like this. Should stand up and get what we want/deserve! Ha.

At Least you got 4mbps, like I said be4, the Unifi stop before my lorong is one thing, but I only have 1mbps AT MOST. When ask why no upgrade to at least 4mbps, they answer cos unifi is going to reach ur area so wont upgrade the streamyx speed. I been getting this answer for 3 WHOLE YEARS ever since i asked everytime i paid the bill.

Sorry for being salty, I just too upset with tmnet.

If I were you, I would write to the TM Chairman, copy in the Communication Minister, your local MP, your local TM manager, The Star about your problem and hope that they will expedite in solving the problem. Budget 2016 has allocated RM1.2 billion to upgrade our broadband to 20 Mbps.

Good luck!

Important Note: Most common installation that does not require 'extended' internal wiring is FREE. If technician still say otherwise, just tell them this is not the case. If they still insist on payment just request a receipt. I am hearing reports of installations being charged even though it should be free

If you urgently require assistance (especially for Kuching area) please PM me

Just now I just check the unifi coverage in Sandakan, some of the places were removed from the availability list. So sad that Taman Tyng was became unavailable again. Another new area was added which is bandar maju, the shop area of TMpoint Sandakan.

yeah fiber cable should be black yellow stripped,

i think the blue cable he said actually is the hard cable that's tool for use to pulling cable thru manholes

they need to push and pull with the blue hard cable thru underground man hole first to other side and then tie with fiber cable to pull it back again

it's like hard thick plastic line, easier to push thru tunnels, fiber cable more soft and flexible, cannot push, so need this blue cable to help pulling

the inside premise standard installation

does that mean they have to pull cable to near your hdtv?

cos house design, very likely the place their standard installation for outside will be quite far away from living room

so iptv -> power ethernet -> powerline -> power ethernet 2 -> router specified port ?

well, the one hooked outside my premise is exposed, to be spliced i assume.

I kinda hate how TM is pricing its new packages and discarded those legacy bundle but yet affordable. Meanwhile, our ministry says there are plans to increase the speed without hiking up the prices, which leads RM 200 to be the baseline. You serious?

WTH ......i applied my unifi through agent they came and installed. Being using for 3 weeks already. Then the phone provided does not had tone and tried to call the number also cannot get through.

I made a call to 100 ask why the phone cannot use...she check in system and say your application to unifi is still under processing are you sure you are using the internet rclxub.gif . Then later tell me cannot find my details in the system.

Then i say ok then nevermind. Then today they call to make appointment to install unifi on 21/11/2015. What the hell they want to install ? I already using the unifi service for 3 weeks already rclxub.gif

Now i hope they never bill me for unifi subscription.....hahaha

31/10: Submitted my application at TMpoint

4/11: They keyed in the application.

5/11: Fed up with no updates (e-mail), I used the Unifi locator to check my application status. Lo and behold, it's there! (and pending).

9/11: Checked on Locator again, installation date shows up.

14/11: Tentative installation date.

If you're comfortable, try logging in to your Unifi router and changing the Wifi password (and nothing else). Will give more info when I'm back home

If not, just call 100 and they should send a tech over

"Installation postponed due to bad weather."

I don't mind that. What I do mind is the fact that they did not inform me of the installation date at all until the day of the installation itself!

I had to search my own address on Unifi's site to find out.

Hi everyone. I am currently a student at Curtin Sarawak in Miri. I am subscribed to VIP 20 for almost 2 years now. Quality is okay, still enjoying hitting around 20mb/s almost all the time considering that there are 9 people connected to the WiFi.

I will be going back to Sabah for summer holiday next month. I would love to be able to subscribe to the new Unifi 50 mb\s when I reach there.

The BIG QUESTION is. cry.gif .......?

Is UNIFI available at the area that I'll be going?
Which is at (Taman Kepayan Lorong 1A) nearby Kepayan Apartment, the new RTM station and CKS Milllenium?

Still not sure about any white boxes or cabinets installed by TM around the area or anything yet but I am bloody sure that area is blooming with new businesses and new housing.

(preferably to subscribe the UNIFI 50 and with Fibre optic cables)

Try putting in just your house lot/number and postcode only. TM screwed up my Lorong name, hence it is impossible to find in the system.

Else fails, just look at the poles around your premise, spot whether there's a white box labelled TM or not.

ps If the area that you've claimed that Unifi is available, try to spot the white box. If there is one, that means the fibre connection is done via poles instead of ground.

my maximum speed so far is only 28mb for DL where 5mb for UL.

any idea on how to improve on this yet the fiber optic length is just 30m :/

should i file a complain to TM regarding this issue?

just letting u guys know

if you are using 30Mbps unifi, internet speed may slightly slower thru your WIFI if ur signal is below 40%

you may not get full 30Mbps if you are on WIFI, unless u get better signal strength

or you should consider add wifi extender or change to own better unifi supported router with better wifi such as 5Ghz Wifi or Wireless AC

too many neighbor WIFI nearby may also cause interference, makes your wifi unstable due to too crowd channels are being used at the same time.

to avoid that, use Wireless N or AC at 5Ghz, because not many ppl using 5Ghz, most ppl are still using 2.4Ghz Wireless A/B/G/N

recommend upgrade to Dual Band Wireless N/AC 5Ghz, dual band still got backward compatibility for 2.4Ghz only wifi devices, they have separate wireless network 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz

most of decent mobile devices nowadays already support 5Ghz, older one like Galaxy Note 2 already support

If you stayed in west Malaysia it's possible and easily to obtain ping <10ms.
However due to underground cabling from east Malaysia to west Malaysia, somehow our Ping is higher. The ping is similar to those who stayed at condo where they are using vdsl for unifi. Ping Ranging from 2xms to 6xms usually.

My understanding of buying more expensive router is only needed if you connect to the router through wifi at the same time along with a lot of users. Higher end model can help to distribute the speed among user more equally / well distributed among the user rather than just locate the bandwidth to one user and caused other user to suffer from hiccup. At the same time, wifi connection will be more stable for sure.

Wifi and erthernet cable for sure got differences in terms of connection stability.

My 3 years setup - model router / modem > router > access points. Works well smile.gif

I really prefer Sarawak's TM management and the fact that they even reveals all possible locations and inform the consumers regarding to the expansion of Unifi in advance. That definitely deserve an applause from me.

Meanwhile, Sabah consumer page ignores you.

That cabinet is old type HSBB cabinet.
Got newer and bigger one now. The cabinet is like 2X larger. If you live in newer Unifi areas with the larger cabinet, your area has 50M coverage.
The new TM FDP boxes they install on the telephone poles got some new interesting discovery, got 2 bundle of cables now going into it.
One is the regular black 6-core cable with yellow stripped. Another is fully Green in color.
This type of FDP boxes usually can find in business areas where there are many offices and shophouses.
The green cable I guess has something to do with Maxis Business Fiber providing their own ports inside the FDP?
*
Show us the "new" cabinet.

My area had this installed recently, that being there's a gigantic cabinet coupled with it.

There's no power supply in these HSBB cabinets because they're passive optical based. No need external source electricity supply.
The 3rd generation HSBB cabinets are 2X as fat and about 1.5X taller than the old cabinets installed during the first phase of HSBB buildouts. It's like 1/3 the size of a full MSAN cabinet which needs TNB power supply.
The ports in these cabinets are ready to deliver 100mbps access services compared to the old ones.
Judging from the looks of its lock holder which is rounded, it looks like it is from Huawei. Please correct my guess if anyone knows more about this cabinet build.
There were widely installed just recently in the past 5 months after TM continued its HSBB Phase 2 project.
I'm from West Malaysia by the way.
*
Yup, my area is serving the new gen cabinet. East Malaysia.

I wonder how many ports it supports and what's the speed it can handle via fibre to-and-from the data centre. hmm.gif

I'm on Unifi's stock router, if that helps.

I got the 1.xx IP range at first, then it changed to 175.xx after I turn the ONU/router back on (need to arrange some cables)

Guess we're in the same range then. After a restart mine and mind change to 118.xx. biggrin.gif Btw, did you sub the RM20 voice pack? I did ask for that during my upgrade, but it seems diff with what I've asked.

it could be the wifi connection slightly slow down ur 30Mbps possible speed depend on the wifi signal strength you have now,

standard 2.4Ghz Wireless N will have huge speed drop vs wireless signal, if u have 40% or below, u might not get full 30Mbps,

normally this was not an issue because our internet are less than 25Mbps, now we have 30Mbps or above, so we can see the wifi's slow issue now biggrin.gif

thats why TM recommends u to use LAN cable connection to do speedtest

to have more accurate speedtest, use LAN cable connection or make sure ur wifi signal at least above 50-60%

also take note that if u got many neighbors wifi really near to you, it can cause interference to ur wifi too, due to crowd wifi channels

Yea, you're right! Now with higher speed then we slowly can see the drawback of 2.4G. About time to move to 5G! Lol. Anyways, will do a direct cable 1 to 1 speed test tonight to see the actual speed. biggrin.gif

1Gbps? The old generation design TM used during HSBB Phase 1 areas can't even support 50Mbps.
TM launched FTTH services using GPON technology 7 years ago during its early stage of introduction.
To further understand how GPON works, each port at the OLT has 2.4G/1.2G rate. If you "pao"(reserve) the port all to yourself meaning only 1 line direct to your home, of course you'll get a dedicated 2.4G/1.2G line but it's going to cost you a dedicated leased line. So to cut costs down, you need to share that line using a passive splitter installed in the cabinet like the one shown above.
The idea is like a water tap/electricity cable that goes into your home, if you turn on too many taps/install too many air-conditioner units, then of course overload/water pressure slow lorr.
The splitter cassettes inside the cabinet looks like one of these:
user posted image
user posted image
Back then (2008), TM got greedy and used the maximum 1 port split 64 lines. Each user only gets this much guaranteed bandwidth:
2.4G / 64 lines =  37.5Mbps (Download)
1.2G / 64 lines = 18.75Mbps (Up)
If you count in overheads say 10%, that's around 34M (Down) /  17M (Up).
Also don't forget you need to reserve IPTV bandwidth around 8Mbps plus the internet plan you're selling.
30M(Internet) + 8M(IPTV) = 38M (Down)
Through my years of experience, even 30M already got restriction, don't say 50M.If they insist on selling, I can guarantee most customers will come back complaining that they can never achieve their package speeds. they will be taking a gamble and pray that customers won't complain. That's why 50M plans are very limited to certain new areas.
As comparison, Time's network and many other FTTH providers in Indonesia(Telkom) and Thailand(AIS, CAT, 3BB) who launched their GPON networks much later all use 1:32 splitters max on each port.
So each port is capable of 72M down / 38M up. Selling 100M service like what Time does still works but rarely you can get speed results  that matches your subscribed 100M plan.
Now those FTTH services in USA, Singapore and Japan use even tighter standards,if you subscribe gigabit packages, they will put you on very low split count per port. No more than 16 lines per port with some no more than 8 lines per port.
TM covered many areas already during HSBB Phase 1 so if they want to plan for faster speeds, just imagine how much work and budget extra they need to spend to re-wire all the old ports. It's like building a new network once again. More OLT ports, new feed lines for new ports need to pull to cabinets and more splitters. They'll not afford it unless more songlap happens.
Now with Phase 2, the improvised the split ratio a little. It's now 1:32 on par with Time and the rest of the industry ISPs. That's why I said 100M ports are now capable with the newer bigger cabinets.
More splitters = More space needed = Need more BIGGER cabinet.
Heard of AT&T Gigapower service in US? They split no more than 16 lines per port, so they need really big cabinets. This is an ADC cabinet used over there, big a not? It's taller than a fully grown "ang moh"
user posted image
In Singapore and HK, you won't see large size cabinets on the roads, they "sorok"(hide) them inside HDB flat riser rooms/huts. If you get to see one, it's at least twice the size of ours on the road.

Woa, thanks for the knowledge. I am glad that my network is kinda future proof, but damn they haven't launch Unifi. By the way are you a network engineer?

ps wuts songlap?

Oh well, I decided check the actual postcodes that are officially listed in the Unifi coverage page.
The results are fairly interesting.

user posted image
17 out of 220 postal codes are under Unifi coverage at Sarawak.

Whereas, Sabah only scored 7 out of 398 postal codes.

Do keep in mind, the all postal codes listed are retrieved from a third party site, which may not be necessary accurate.

Anyone here lives in the Imperial Grand Suite Condo at The Boulevard mall?

Can you imagine that residential condo itself has no UniFi or any fixed internet access? P1 also got no coverage there from their coverage map.

TM signed an agreement to provide in-building UniFi and HyppTV for the hotel and shopping complex but the condominium was not in the deal.

Also there's another condominium complex off Jalan Song called The Tropics. Also got not UniFi coverage ah?

You'll no longer be jealous after you start paying for the monthly charges and being tied down for the next 24 mnths.
Their world class service will surely impress you. laugh.gif

RM4800 for 24 months is no joke for many Malaysians even among the middle classes today.

For the first month when you make the leap from slow access, you might get addicted to the downloading but once the excitement dies down, you'll be regretting the contract you signed.
*
lol, when you put it that way, it does sound a lot less appealing. But as Malaysians, what choice do we have especially when you don't live in the major cities. TM monopoly is too big. Right now with my current internet, streaming shows/movie is such a hassle, never mind online gaming like Dota.

News:
East Coast of Borneo ( Lahad Datu etc ) will be getting UniFi next year, 2016.

--
Default router ( provided by TM ) shits.
Rather unstable download speed and crappy bottleneck ( around 20 mbps ).
Instead of the new HyppTV box ( the white one ), I was instead provided with the old one.
When I asked the contractor, he claimed that the old was actually better than the new one. ( wot ) hmm.gif

Anyway, back to the story. It's totally worth to get a new router and stay away from the crappy default equipment, the modem.

Anyone getting UNIFI connection issues around 8pm-2am tonight and the past 3 nights? For normal browsing it's not obvious, but for gaming and upload streaming the spiking is very very serious.

Note: Forgot to mention my other friend also from Kuching but different area has faced the same thing
Note2: There was a letter saying there will be some 'exercises' but I think it's not related

I posted this last time. Still relevant now. From 93150 Kuching here so should be the same result

The following are from 'properly stressed 24/32 slots servers'
Malaysia 41-91
Singapore 26-94
Thailand/Vietnam 89-113
Australia 170-230
Hong Kong 76-122
United States 200-300

lowest I had for west malaysia was definitely around 4x. I think I had 2x when connecting to my friend's server (within Kuching) but very rarely there's server around here so I didn't bother to include that sweat.gif

if you play dota2 or csgo mostly likely it's the singapore one (Singapore 26-94)

The following is NOT confirmed but I have seen evidences that many people are having this issue right now:

UNIFI been having major connection issues during peak times from 6PM-2AM for the past 1 month now. This includes ping connection quality so things like online gaming and even VOIP will be severely affected. Currently working with TM technical staff regarding this and will update accordingly

Normal connection @ 10am

You can't.

What you can do is pay a minimum fee every month to keep the old number active.

Thanks! all si-fus here. It's much clearer now.

I also find it weird that VIP 5,10,20 has free unlimited fixed line calls, whereas VIP 30 and 50 doesn't. My mom definitely wants the free fixed line calls.

I just asked TM about what happened to the supposedly official Sarawak fb page. This is their reply:

QUOTE
The Facebook page given is not an official TM page. For any inquiries, you can drop us a message. By the way, you can refer to us or any nearest TMpoint (http://bit.ly/18oqjT0) for Streamyx coverage or you can check UniFi coverage via online at bit.ly/f0bgcz
If this is true, that is one awesome fake fb page. tongue.gif What about Sabah's fb page? blink.gif

officially TM never use Fb as a medium to communicate.

instead they use twitter @TMConnects

usually the unifi agents use facebook and they act as TM

they do and they have been https://www.facebook.com/everyoneconnects. If those fb pages were agents would have seen agent links but this is not the case. Most of the coverage images in this thread are from those fb pages as well

you can check Sabah's page to see what I mean:

TM is now very speedy nowadays. From built-out to general availability now takes less than a month, unlike 6+ months like back then.
