The only broadband available in Bau, which is 35min drive from Kuching, is Streamyx 1Mbps! No free upgrade for current streamyx users.

According to https://www.theborneopost.com/2018/01/28/cm...e-infra-access/

CM launches Sacofa Open Fibre Infra Access
Abang Johari (seventh left) and Abdul Wahap (fourth right) seen during the DBKU 2018 Agenda launching ceremony at the Kuching Waterfront last night.

KUCHING: Kuching took a significant step into becoming a smart city with the launch of Sacofa Open Fibre Infra Access (Sofia) here last night.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sofia has the ability to deliver high speed internet connections to residential or commercial buildings.

He said with the new infrastructure, residents of the city will be able to be connected with outside world with more ease.

“This infrastructure helps the city’s people with their business and communication. It also helps the people with education as well,” he added.

Abang Johari was speaking during the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) 2018 Agenda opening ceremony held at the Kuching Waterfront.

Also present during the launch was DBKU mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.

Yes....Kuching only for now

my fren in miri was upgraded from 50mbps to 100mbps for free last year end

nothing change, same equipment he use, just make sure your router is at least WiFi AC 5Ghz + N 2.4Ghz Dual band, for best wifi connection

and a decent one, dont use Dlink

no special equipment there, except if you are still using the old wifi n 2.4Ghz router

he's direct fiber to resident house, so no problem using 100mbps

if you are living in condominium or apartment, then you might be limited to 50Mbps

btw,

my area all FDP has been labelled and attached, cables are tied last few days, does that mean service availability is near? hmm.gif

those fdp has been hanging there incomplete for about 2 months and they just finish it recently

they have been busy at the new fiber cabinet nearby for 3 weeks

They will either give the TP Link AC1200, it the D-Link DIR850L, for basic day to day use, but if you want something better or if you have a bigger house or make devices accessing the wireless network, I would change if I can as these two will not be good enough.

Got a call from TM, offering me an upgrade from my 50 Mbps (was on 30 Mbps at RM199) to 100 Mbps for additional RM20. Yes, additional RM20!!!!!!

Saw in Unifi forum and a friend in KL got the upgrade for only RM10/month.

I am from Sarawak. Why are we treated as a 3rd class Msian where we get the lousy service and have to pay more?

Sorry for airing my anger and frustration here. Hope someone high in TM management is reading this. May contact someone in Sarawak govt on this where they proudly boosted about the broadband development and growth in Sarawak. Really?

What to do, Gov very eager to expand, but only 1 player monopolise the major market here. Maxis is still at very limited area, the rest just depend on TM. Meanwhile, our friends in KL, Penang, and Johor there can get 100mbps for RM149 on Time.

Normally kampung rural area already cover by this monopolise market.
If use maxis, same it's using TM infrastructure. Nothing different, but only the service.

Oh ya... My side here Siang Siang garden miri already 3 years still masih don't have Unifi, some-more Streamyx pun tak ada... thumbup.gif
Really racist less than 500 meter there those residential got unifi, while my side here don't have..

You may hope for Celcom Fibre & SOFIA (in near future) using SACOFA infra which is cheaper than Unifi.
SACOFA has extensive fibre networks across the state but yet to build the last mile connection for existing residential areas.
They are given fund/task to build the fibre connection to the areas not covered by TM.
SACOFA is / will be the monopoly, not TM / Unifi.
