Found a write up on 408 2.0NA on The Malaysian Reserve Nov 2012
------------------------------------------------
The C-segment market today offers a competing variety of choices for young executives who want a car that’s power-packed with sleek looks and space to boot.

Enter the all-new Peugeot 408 which comes in two variants — a 408 Turbo and a 408 2.0. The new Peugeot 408 fits into this segment market like a glove, according to Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of the Peugeot brand in Malaysia, adding that the new model will “redefine Malaysia’s C-segment market”.

Launched in May this year, the two new variants are targeting the middle class, the young professional, and the young family.

The 408 2.0 is a “feel good” model when it comes to aggression, speed, looks, space and comfort, and comes packed with a powerful 2.0 engine that delivers unrivalled performance and swift response on every command, making it an enticing attraction for sedan lovers.

“The 408 is ideal for young professionals with families who are looking for a car that offers space, performance and elegance,” joint group executive chairman of the Naza Group of Co SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin said.

Being a stylishly power-packed car, the 408 2.0 variant does offer a combination of the dynamism typical of a Peugeot with a high-level of comfort and premium quality. The 408 2.0 and its turbo variant feature design cues that are sleek and balanced.

Sleek Appearance The 408 2.0’s sleek appearance with its 4.68 metre-long front end, includes Peugeot’s classic feline headlights and the fluid lines sweeping right to the back are seductively styled and is a definite head-turner.

The car’s thin chrome strips on the radiator grille and sculptured lines on the bonnet that flow naturally into the wide slopping windscreen portray it’s aggressive character.

The sides feature carved wheel arches, while the plunging body line from the rear lights to the front wing showcases an extrovert nature that delivers enthusiastic characteristics of the car.

At the back, the ruby red rear lights are trimmed with a clear white strip that hint at a lion’s claws within the cluster, which is an interesting element that grabs attention.

According to Nasim, the rear lights take on the form of three diagonal strips that are a tribute to Peugeot’s historic models such as the Peugeot 307 CC and the 504 coupe.

Innovative Features Safety-wise, the 408 2.0 comes with an array of innovative features and ground-breaking technologies built-in, such as two smart airbags, the antilock braking system (ABS), an electronic brake-force distribution system (EBD) and electronic braking system (EBA) among others, which is also featured in the turbo variant.

The car also has a double impact force dissipation channel to provide maximum passenger compartment protection together with a host of other safety enhancements.

According to Nasim, the 408 2.0 has the biggest cabin space in its segment and its engine offers more power and higher torque compared to both the Toyota Altis 2.0 and Nissan Sylphy.

It also comes with a lot of premium features that the competitors do not offer such as the automatic dual-zone air-conditioning system with rear air-conditioning vents, “World in Peugeot sound” with six speakers and CD/MP3 playback capability, The 408 2.0 also features a tilt and telescopic steering, one-touch power windows with anti-pinch for all four windows, sensor-activated headlights and wipers, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, 17” alloys and a bigger boot space of 562 litres.

Extra Large Cabin Space The 408 2.0’s cabin offers the largest cabin space in its class with its long 2,710mm wheelbase, its width measuring 1,815mm and its height at 1,525mm provides ample leg room, elbow room and head room respectively.

Although some may say the 408 2.0 was designed with over-achieving business types in mind, the sedan actually appeals well to young spirits who crave for power and smooth driveability.

Test-driving the 408 2.0 though highway curves, the car performed smooth road handling characteristics, driveability and possessed real onroad finesse, which should fit well with the younger group.

With its decent seat space and position, efficient driving capabilities, safety features and an impressive audio enhancement system, the 408 promises dynamic driving performance for both the younger and older customer market.

Precise Road Holding The 408 variants are fitted with independent MacPherson-type struts and antiroll bar for the front suspension to offer precise road holding.

At the rear, the suspension comprises a deformable Ushaped cross member and an integrated antiroll bar to provide good vibration control and well-controlled body movement.

Powered by a four-cylinder 2-litre engine, the 408 2.0 produces 145hp and 200 Nm of torque fitted with an auto adaptive gearbox with Triptronic and a sport mode.

Other than the premium features, Naza offer customers the benefit of five years warranty with unlimited mileage, lifetime 24-hours Peugeot Assistance and Lifetime Peugeot Privilege Membership for both 408 variants.

Hi Chan,

Seems like no one answer you here is the answer and it's an addition to the #Design flaw list;

PTY: Program Type. This coding of up to 31 pre-defined programme types – e.g. (in Europe): PTY1 News,
PTY6 Drama, PTY11 Rock music – allows users to find similar programming by genre. PTY31 seems to be reserved for emergency announcements in the event of natural disasters or other major calamities. This allows you to search for ROCK stations, news etc.

TA, TP: Travel Announcements, Traffic Program. The receiver can often be set to pay special attention to this flag and e.g stop the tape or retune to receive a Traffic bulletin. The TP flag is used to allow the user to find only those stations that regularly broadcast traffic bulletins whereas the TA flag is used to stop the tape or raise the volume during a traffic bulletin.

Cheong,

Yeh, all #Defect & #Config list item shall be reverted back to SC for fix.
#Design ones 'Bo Pien' it's the DNA can't do much. Unless do own pimping or drive it 2-3 years, sell and buy other cars and the cycle of rebirth continues. flex.gif

Hi all 408 owners,i am sort of undeciding whether to get the turbo or the 2.0NA.in town,i normally drive at about 60 to 80 kph whereas in highway just 100 to 130 kph only.I had tested the turbo, it was so powerful.I plan to use this car for at least 5 to 7 years, so I am worried about the turbo engine might be causing problems in the future.any advise?and any 2.0 owner here why u chose 2.0 instead of turbo?
*
2.0 was just within my set budget.

I prefer the fabric seats as they are much cooler when you start to drive the car.

Speed wise it is still a good car, you just need to floor it. smile.gif

Do you call Peugeot careline when you encounter the problem? Is it Peugeot who arranged for the towing service? You need to pay anything for the towing service, and changing the thermostat is claimable under warranty? If it's indeed Peugeot who arranged for all of these, how do you rate their respond?

p/s : Now I sounds like NASIM employee doing a satisfaction survey  blush.gif

Sorry for late reply. So many thing happens lately.
Yes i call the Peugeot careline and they want to arrange towing service but too expensive. Peugeot cover for RM150 only. Then use my father's friend for the towing. So, for towing i bear myself. Changing thermostat is under warranty, so not charge at all. The respond quite OK for me. The service center that fix my car also not bad because they manage to diagnose my car problem on the phone.hehe

For comparison purposes against 408 THP

VW Golf TSI 1.4 15000km service price

Total: RM469.00

Engine oil 5W40 (3.6) - RM244.80
Labor (?) - RM120
Sundry (???) - RM20

Not exactly cheap either, lol. It may very well be much more expensive compared to the 308/408 THP

i think it would be great if we are able to compare the total cost of service from 0km to 100,000km or 5 years among all c-seg cars

It would be great of course. What it only needs is time and also for owners to be forthcoming with their service cost.
