AsusWRT-Merlin 376.48 Beta 2 has been released.

Changelog:
CODE
376.48 Beta 2 (26-Oct-2014)
 - NEW: Added logo to the webui header
 - CHANGED: Samba 3.6 will now use libiconv to handle
             charset conversion (will resolve CP850
             warnings amongst other things)
 - CHANGED: Updated miniupnpd to 20141023 code from Github.
 - CHANGED: Updated dropbear to 2014.66.
 - CHANGED: Reverted NTP update code to GPL 2678 in hopes of
resolving the few cases where it didn't work anymore.
 - FIXED: minidlna is once again able to use inotify for updates.
A temporary workaround has been implemented where
minidlna will be staticly linked with a threadsafe
build of sqlite3, while BWDPI will continue to use
the shared non-threadsafe library. (Asus bug)

Hi vickyrao,

May I ask some question regarding the problem you faces,

1. What is your current firmware you are using?
2. Which WiFi frequency you connect to, 2.4GHz or 5GHz?
3. What is the distance between your laptop and RT-AC68U, it is line of sigh?
4. What is your USB HDD connection type, USB2.0 or USB3.0? And which USB port you connected to.
5. What is the speed of your laptop WiFi and it is single band or dual band.
6. What file are you transferring to the USB HDD?

Thank you
vickyrao

Hi ASUSmy

Just to let you know the router replacement you've provided is working good so far. smile.gif

No hiccups like the A1 revision. I will further comment if coming months the router still give any problems.

Anybody using RT-N18U? How is the performance with UNIFI? Can this model use it for HyppTV/IPTV?

hi all,

need some advise here please. Please do excuse my lousy network drawing. This is the best i can explain.

Current Setup.

1. Living Room. Modem Router sits on WP1, connected to BTU via CAT 5E1 using AC87.

2. Upstairs . Wireless Extender using AC68.

3. Study Room. None.

Using single SSID.

Proposed setup. Refer to attachement

1. Modem Router sits in utility room. ( Dunno which modem/router to use). Will NOT be using wireless here. just to dial up to Unifi

2. Living room. AC87?AC68? as AP connected to Modem Router at Utility Room via CAT 5E1 plus wireless here.

3. Study room. Connect to Modem Router at Utility Room via CAT 5E2 and join the current wifi signal.

4. Upstairs. Connect to Modem Router at Utility Room via CAT 5E3 and join the current wifi signal.

Prefer single SSID.

MY apology if the details above are not clear.

What i have in my hand now is :-

1. AC87U
2. AC68U
3. RTN14UHP
4. Airport Extreme
5. Airport Express

The question is which one should i use as modem and which one to use as APs or should i get another ASUS modem ?

my Living Room, i have it currently wired up (Ethernet)my PS4 and Apple TV

my Study room I plan to have my IMAC and printers sitting in there.

Thanks all !!! looking forward for all the replies.

Download the firmware again & use an ethernet cable to do the firmware upgrade.
DO NOT upgrade firmware over WiFi.

Once the download is finished, extract the file to the root folder of your harddisk. Do not extract it into another folder.
Example: "C:\"

thanks for yr cautionary statement, i was very careful when i upgraded just a few minutes ago.

RT-N12HP B1, using old firmware for 3 months. been reluctant to upgrade since it worked good, no problems.

this morning i decided to go 3.0.0.4.376.2048:

my pc is on wifi.
log in, downloaded firmware on usual download folder, extracted it there.
use firmware update option, it asks u where to update from, select that file in window prompt.
message wait 3 mins.
when done, it asked u to go thru the settings, password, etc.
then, at the point after unifi pw, trying to set internet connection, it kept saying timeout...
nothing worked, all devices no connection!
i sweated! sweat.gif

then i did REBOOT.
message came up, new settings now being applied, 1-2 minutes.
and ... viola, all is good again. biggrin.gif

so, not so hard after all, just a few minutes, and need to reboot. thumbup.gif

Sorry but there's nothing from ASUS that fits your requirement at that budget.

The cheapest ASUS DSL modem router with Gigabit ports is ASUS DSL-N16U.
But it's not available in Malaysia.

Your only choice for now is ASUS DSL-N55U priced at RM485 in lelong.com.my.

ASUSmy

The router is 'faulty' again. WiFi is very very very very slow. My phone, my sister's are not able to connect to the WiFi. Running the firmware you provided via PM.

The LAN is OK.

Wireless Mode : Auto
Channel bandwidth : 20Mhz
Channel control : 6

When I'm in my room, the WiFi doesn't work at all (including laptop)

When I'm outside, OK again. And the signal still shows 2-3 bars on the phone, 4-5 bars on the laptop. Cannot even access 192.168.0.1 from the room.

I think I really need a refund already.

Asus technical,

I am unsure on how to use the Firewall_Network Services Filter.

I am trying to block access to any ports from the LAN to WAN from 1025 upwards.

I've left the first three columns empty and on the 4th column I place the 1025:65535 TCP ALL and UDP.
Is this the correct way ?

I then try to use my PC to access a website at port 8080 and it is able to do so ?
Then I try to on my bittorrent and based on the denied traffic logging, it is dropping the packets.

What is the right way to do this ?

Thanks.
