About the licensing of LAME otherwise known as licensed aircraft maintenance engineer... I have heard about this EASA incorporated syllabus offered by nilai college. But seriously, no one can be a LAME immediately after getting the diploma. A LAME's job is to certify aircraft to be airworthy. It is a job with high responsibility. How could anyone without working experience sign out the aircraft to be safe for flight..

But the City of Bristol College got 3 months industrial training. I dont know maybe In a country like UK where in Europe itself the training is more intensive than in Malaysia.

nope. u don't get a license after 2 years course. u only get "basic training certificate" if you pass all your module in 3 attempt, 95% attendance and finish your OJT(on job training). This certificate will allow u to issue your license after u get at least 2 years experience, after your finish your course. 3 months OJT is nothing. I think the same thing goes to other EASA course. no idea for nilai college. but I just wondering, is it Nilai college got approval from EASA to do it the course? better check through to EASA. because what i heard only an approval training school from EASA will get this benefit. if u want to know more about city of bristol and the EASA course over there, i can help u. i got a friend over there.

In my opinion, if u get the training under an airline (Air Asia, MAS or Transmile), it will be the best. but if u can't and still have the passion, u have to make a first move. a lot of master in here that can answer your doubt about DCA license and other training school in Malaysia (MIAT, TAFE, Nilai college) or EASA license as well. i just can answer what i heard only. cheers..

The aviation field is very broad/wide, you have to be specific..

Maybe I've missed this or overlooked it before, so I want to apologize first if these queries have been discussed before in this thread.

To quote Lestat in his post #22 in this thread, if a candidate is fresh from SPM, or diploma, or degree in whichever courses other than aviation-specific courses, they are as good as zero. This has also been reiterated a few times by other members and experienced persons in this thread as well.

So, my query is, other that passion and dedication towards the job scopes, on what level of expectations does a prospective employer such as MAS or AirAsia have towards the prospective aircraft engineering trainee in this instance? For example, do they expect a candidate to have at least some marginal aptitude or knowledge in, lets say, fixing a car or a bike? Do the candidate needs to be familiar with types of aircrafts, for example, being able to differentiate between a B747 and B737, or be able to give general opinions on the pros and cons of maintaining a Boeing aircraft and an Airbus aircraft?

Or do they expect that at least a candidate is familiar with Flight Sim (although more in the line for pilots, but many aviation enthusiasts are into it)? Is Flight Simulator practise for engineers a good way to get valuable insights on the trick of this trade?

from interview they do expect you can think technically rather than depend only on ur knowledge based like you mention but its not as hard as it seem kinda technical like how you know your car tyre is okay or not or under pressure or in eelectrical term how to splice a wire ... just basic tecnical thing will be okay . but those extravaganza knowledge really help if get into it

P?s:fligth sim do give you how the basic of aircraft works

Is getting a diploma worth it if I want to become a LAE? How about the job prospect with just the diploma?
I'm deciding whether to study in college such as MIAT or TAFE...

thanks iirnii for quoting me...i almost ditching this thread from must-read lyn threads. i seconded kabadi, engineers need to decide in a second or lose money/life/credibility tongue.gif

this EASA talks are contradicting each other between those who talks and those who actually going thru it (esp. in malaysia and malaysia not yet adopting EASA). and guiding new comers thru this rubbish is troublesome ler...

in short.. go join MAS/AA/Transmile/etc TAME program and u'll almost guaranteed of being LAME in 5 years (EASA or oldies BCAR isn't your concern coz they'll groom u to their plan).

or go join MIAT/TAFE/Nilai if u want an academical diploma cert which could give a helping hand if u have trouble in aircraft maintennce rolleyes.gif or if u planning to go further, say get a degree (but useless for aero/mech engineering degree path) well, miat was much in hype nowadays..dca approval and all.. o yaa.. u'll have to get your LAME by yourself after the diploma. for this route i suggest reading AN no. 85, i think i posted the pdf copy before.

how useful is this diploma outside aircraft maintenance? i heard one is working with astro, my guess is technician la. one of my close friend is currently with oversea-based power engineering company, a techinician-almost-engineer with handsome pay nod.gif

Xtain, do u see your route now?
