I think you'll have to go down to specifics of what you're looking for... sporty look, diver, military, dressy and so on.

Seiko makes automatics from RM199 like what Everydying posted to a million ringgit spring drive minute repeater.

seiko with sapphires are close to rm1k.
if not mistaken, even casio quartz ones with sapphire are around rm700.

go to work?
seen it here around rm1.2k...i think...limited to something like 900 pcs...then again seiko got shitloads of limited editions.
http://www.nzwatches.com/seiko-presage-cla...e-in-japan.html

orient star also got models with sapphire for around rm1.2k after discount.

what i dont like about it, as for other watches too, is a date at 4 position.
the spork movement also cannot hack / wind right?

Yup.. its big. (its the biggest in my collection) but not ridiculously big.

The date is what makes it unique - its at 4:20 position actually hehehe

Yup no hack and wind just like the 7s26/36s

correct me if I am wrong but I think the 4R15 is so far the only movement used in two models? the spork and the sport 100m versions.

I don't like dates at 4 or so position cos I wear on my right...and most are accommodated for left hand wearers...tho some like the spork is also a design consideration so won't mess up the numerals.
4r15 I duno in what else...just tired of no handwind...

was looking for a cheap leather strap that's similar to the di-modell chronissimo...and here it is.
fits the 2.5mm spring bars, flares start at 26mm so fits the case nicely...and its about 1/5 the price of the di-modell...just that its not water resistant like the di-modell.

ya i saw that seiko, first thing that came to mind was they stuck that into a monster case.

Military fever detected biggrin.gif It is a nice watch...no matter what colour they are..simple and neat...with nice military touch..most importantly very affordable smile.gif

Anyway here's my new acquisition...SBBN007..quite vintage already tongue.gif My wrist is small...thus explaining the extra long rubber strap behind my wrist biggrin.gif

i checked out the seiko astron again up close.
its quite thick, but pretty light cos titanium casing.
its also weird cos it is 100m WR, but it has a main screw down crown, while the other 2 pushers arent.
the guy who demo it basically said its irritating to set the time manually, cos u cant really wind the hands like u do a regular watch...just at the mercy of the automation as it extremely slowly makes its way around until it gets to the right time...and im still not exactly sure what the main crown does tongue.gif
then again its not often that u have to do that since the internal batt should last quite abit.

I think the SNK is much better looking than the SNZG posted earlier.

Main difference is that its quite a bit smaller at 36mm vs 42mm for SNZG. This is up to personal preference though the military styled watches its based on, are about 34-36mm.

Other than that, the SNZG has better water resistance rating of 100m vs 50m for the SNK

I use the SNK809 as my daily watch. The transparent caseback is inscribed as WATER RESISTANT. According to the manual, it is designed and manufactured to withstand up to 3 bar (30m) for accidental contact with water or rain.

It does not stop me from washing mine daily. No problems so far after using it for roughly 6 months.

If the caseback is inscribed with WATER RESISTANT 5 BAR (50m) then it is suitable for taking a shower or swimming.

You can always download the user's manual from Seiko's website.

I made the same mistake too. I thought it has the same resistance as my Seiko Kinetic SKJ006P1. Did rinse my watch under 2 feet of water a few times. Thankfully nothing bad happened.
I believe yours is inscribed with WATER RESISTANT 10 BAR on the caseback?

Yeah.. it says 10 bar. I believe most of the newer seiko 5 release also upped the WR to 10bars.

It's old school.. but lets call it an acquired taste. Wish whatever next reiteration of these models bring back the cushion case look of the 6105 though.

The 4R36 has the same dimensions as the 7S26. It's possible to swap the movement and the stem, but require a 4R36 that is configured with the crown at 4 o'clock else the day will not be aligned with the dial. The position of the dial feet is also different depending on the crown position.

The picture is not very clear under zoom. But here's my best guess:
From the bracelet design and and watch case design, he's wearing a rare JDM:
H601-5400 Model No. SBJ145J.
Attached Image
(Only 2 variants were made by Seiko: Silver and Gold)

It's slightly different from the more commonly available model with many colors and styles.
H601-5461 Model No. SBJ243P1

Update: Added picture.

Got an email from Paypal a couple weeks ago, saying I can get 5% off plus free shipping from creationwatches. Not sure if it's still valid but no harm trying if you're buying from them.

Added on November 26, 2012, 5:51 pmAnd of course there's the additional 8% off for Cyber Monday deals.

Just bought one today for collection only....
I pity that the watch has been on siting on the shelf for years, so I took it home. It's from Seiko's 08/09 release and mine is dated to December 2007.
The watch is flawless, the bezel rotation clicks smoothly and the lug to lug height of 50mm fits my wrist perfectly. wub.gif

I bought it to appreciate the Cal. 7T92 movement and design of this watch.

Previously, I had reservations about quartz watches. After seeing how good my Kinetic runs after complete overhaul by Thong Sia SC, I'd like to try out Seiko's quartz movement. Back in 2008, the trend of large watches are in vogue and the SNDA13P1 is a fine example for collection. No plans to wear this watch because it is big and thick. Not practical for daily use.

One is JDM, and the other one is for international market. On the dial itself, the JDM version (denoted by "J") got "21 Jewels" wordings under "Diver 200M" while the other one just plain.

Technically, both are the same smile.gif I would say no different at all, except for the one mentioned above.

Just to add...
JDM means just exactly that. Japan Domestic Market. It does not necessarily means that the watch was made in Japan.
Other than that the watch usually have English/Kanji or English/Arabic day dial.

Very true bro...thanks for the highlight...if simply said JDM, it might misled some to believe it must be "Made in Japan"...not necessarily. I guess the best example is this Seiko Spirit model:

http://www.seiyajapan.com/product/S-SBPG00...ar-SBPG001.html

It is a JDM model...however was made in China

Perfectly understood.

That's what I was trying to understand as well; they look the same except for some slight difference in script on dial. Same movement, same size... even looks like the same strap.

So I guess then the 'dilemma' is whether or not '21 jewels' is worth $30. I think not, but I'll sleep on it, I guess. Thanks so much for the feedback!

Anyone else in here have the same model? Wristshots appreciated smile.gif

Since we're in the topic, I read from the interweb that the newer 007's are seemingly not as well build as the old ones. What's your 2 cents on this?

Military fever detected biggrin.gif It is a nice watch...no matter what colour they are..simple and neat...with nice military touch..most importantly very affordable smile.gif

Anyway here's my new acquisition...SBBN007..quite vintage already tongue.gif My wrist is small...thus explaining the extra long rubber strap behind my wrist biggrin.gif

What? You never owned one? That's the self-destruct pusher button... wink.gif

Anyway, that's the pusher for the power reserve indicator. Notice the extra markings on the dial from 12 to 6. To use the indicator markings on the dial just push it when the seconds hand reach 12 o'clock and it will tell you how the power that the rechargeable battery has. Back then when it was introduced, 3-Hand Kinetic watches had a 7 day charge reserve. Nowadays, they have a 6 months power reserve after Seiko upgrades the battery. IMO it was more useful back then than now.

Its normal to have 2/3rds of power reserve under regular use unless you a very active person.

I think it's gotta do with the dial design.. mainly the trimmed index markers. A little more grown up... especially the SRP307.

Hows the accuracy of the 4R36?

ya cleaner looking dial, no more fat looking indices too biggrin.gif
accuracy of the 4r36...well...accuracy specs is +45 / -35...
one of mine is slowly settling down to around +7s / day...another seems to be slowing down to around -17s / day...so still within specs...but it irritates me...i prefer it +17 fast tongue.gif

yea, i guess so.
spec wise tho the 4s26 is marginally more 'accurate' at +40 / -20.
doesnt bother me that much anyway, i still rather have the handwind function.

I would say, go for it smile.gif You'll get Seiko, and superb quality that always come along with their brand. Esthetic wise, yes it is a catchy watch...not hard to like, especially with the romanised dial, classic hands, exhibition caseback, and nice looking bracelet with solid end link smile.gif

Auto watches would run fast or slow over a period of time. But nvr need to worry about changing batts.
If you are not the person that wear watches regularly/have a lot to choose from, it may be a hassle for some ppl to adjust the time/date once it stops

Hmm... thinking aloud here.

Although technically different, isn't both Solar and Kinetic achieve essentially the same thing?

Powering quartz movement with long power reserve?

I plan to buy a seiko criteria watch by online & postage. The only thing that bothers me is that where do I go to adjust the watch bracelet or remove watch links? and how much does it cost me?

Room light is not sufficient enough...need to expose it to natural light...if you intend to expose it to direct sunlight, try not to expose it for too long. I cant remember exactly how long...I guess max is 2 hrs like...correct me if I am worng tongue.gif

Auto watches would run fast or slow over a period of time. But nvr need to worry about changing batts.
If you are not the person that wear watches regularly/have a lot to choose from, it may be a hassle for some ppl to adjust the time/date once it stops
*
I would always go for Auto watches to keep, and pass it down to generations.. smile.gif

Less than what you paid for yours after discount. It depends on how much the retailer is willing to give you. Having said that, you have paid for yours at a fair price.

Any sifu here know how to advise?

Basically, my skx009j1 has a day function, but from 12AM - 3AM, it will display some Arabic wordings, before turning to Romanized wordings. Believe I've probably set the day incorrectly, and I've rtfm but I'm still unsure on how to solve this.

Pic as attached for easier reference.

You have set it correctly my friend. Most MIJ seikos have English and Arabic days. 12AM to 3AM is the transition period. Seiko assumes everyone sleeps during that period.

Personally I prefer Arabic days as I dont usually lose track of what day it is and I can learn sumthing new thumbup.gif

Sunday - AL-Had - Ahad
Monday - Ithnin - Isnin
Tueday - Salassa - Selasa
Wednesday - Ar-Ba'a - Rabu
Thursday - Al-Khamsa - Khamis
Friday - Jumaat - Jumaat
Saturday - AL-Sabtuh - Sabtu

Wear it in good health

cheers

Around RM190 shipped bro. Mine is using straight end link. For custom endlink, I believe it will cost you more, depending it is a hollow end link, or solid end link. Solid is more expensive

I think all Seiko 5s have the '5' logo. Perhaps you're thinking of a Sportura of Chronograph?
*
dun think so.. chronography will be completely different model. Seiko 5 is automatic watch..
this is another automatic without 5

Nice seiko solar diver, and also the skx009J...thinking of buying the solar diver as well...it is quite big...but i think it wears smaller...looks good on small wrist thou smile.gif

The skx are the watches that i kept flipping and buying...due to being discontinued, i think this time must get it again and kept...especially with the wordings "21 Jewels"...biggrin.gif i basically the same with k version..but with soul...at least for me biggrin.gif

Anyway, the much awaited anvil bracelet from Harold yobokies has arrived smile.gif

Does anyone in this forum own this watch below? The dial looks really good with black and yellow contract, but IMO the strap looks too bright, it would look better with a dark brown leather strap maybe.

Also, is it possible to get this seiko 5 model in this kind of strap in malaysia? or it has to be custom made/ replaced?

bought my 1st seiko monster from sg wang yesterday...
went back to check with the seller today bcoz when i shake it. it kindda have a loose sound, n the lume is weak, not like in the photos of various review
so...
well i shake all the other monsters in the shop, sounds the same...uncle said auto watches r like tat...ok sry for my ignorance, my wrong here i think.

then about the lume, I'm very sure it's weaker than the other monsters...uncle didnt really want to check n assured me that there's nth wrong n it's the same. at 1st i tot maybe so bcoz their watches r readily charged by the display light. Then i thought...the outside sun should have already charged my watch even better...i cant say anything much bcoz mayb my anxiousness somehow clouded my sight.....so i test it when i went home. Put it under sunlight 4 10mins n close it in the cupboard...1 hour later...no more lume....obviously something is wrong rite?

My Seiko SNK807K1 Time Comparative Test:
This watch has been my daily wear watch since I bought it in May this year. Been using it for about 7 months daily and I'm satisfied with the accuracy and the reliability of the watch. The only improvement that I wish for is sapphire glass.

Here's the comparative test result between the watch and Maxis mobile network time synched hand phone from the beginning of this month for a period of fifteen days . (IMO It's the closest to a radio wave controlled clock here.)

Date / Time difference / Time Checked

01/12/2012 -45 seconds 22:55
02/12/2012 -42 seconds 22:34
04/12/2012 -37 seconds 00:03
04/12/2012 -36 seconds 08:17
04/12/2012 -34 seconds 23:33
05/12/2012 -32 seconds 22:45
06/12/2012 -31 seconds 08:45
07/12/2012 -30 seconds 00:06
08/12/2012 -28 seconds 01:14
08/12/2012 -28 seconds 23:34
09/12/2012 -27 seconds 02:34
09/12/2012 -26 seconds 18:21
10/12/2012 -23 seconds 23:57
12/12/2012 -18 seconds 00:41
13/12/2012 -18 seconds 00:33
13/12/2012 -15 seconds 23:52
14/12/2012 -14 seconds 23:27
15/12/2012 -12 seconds 23:47

33 seconds gained in 15 days.
Average daily gain of 2.2 seconds / day.

Not bad for a watch costing less than RM 250. I'll carry on checking the comparative time measurement till the end of this month.

maxis mobile network time isnt constant.
sometimes its 10secs behind, sometimes as much as 30secs.
currently at this time it is about 3secs behind the atomic clock.

u compare phone daily?
do u know http://mst.sirim.my/ exists? and it is also based on the atomic clock?

do u know maxis were doing some upgrading to their network last week also?
that time it was much slower than atomic clock.

the usual accuracy for maxis clock i see is always 2-3 secs behind atomic clock.

after 1hr? just under fluorescent light? wont glow much.

to continue on from that last pic of mine under fluorescent light for a few mins only...bottom one is after 20mins in the dark.
monster is of cos on the left, the ones still barely glowing are omegas.

it's kind of misleading from the videos n pictures of google. But then again, the insturction manual clearly states that a 10mins charge under fluorescent light(500lux) giv 5-8hours.

monsters are very much well known for their lumes. So much hoohaas going around. they are like really ligthing up a small area rather then jus glowing.

wow 620 is damn cheap, i got it for 720. virustar of lyn offered me 680 but they're out of stock. I think it's a damn good bargain here. All the sg wang sellers really slaughter their customers. 1 even go as far to say that srp313 is LE n only 1300 made. RRP 1800 after discount 1500. I do want to know where can we get it for 620?

10mins under 500lux, i dont think a normal house fluorescent light reaches that level.
anyway, 5-8hrs...probably...if ur eyes get used to complete darkness...then may be able to see a faint dim.

rm620? dunno...thought i read u bought it for that price just now...then edited tongue.gif

3metres form a 40watt daylight fluoresent light(average room luminance) is 500 lux accordind to manual lah....

probably will send an email to thongsia..better not tell me the watch is fake. Paid extra n got this kind of product shakehead.gif

even if it's indeed lume-faulty, dun even know if we have the expertise here to relume or not....not to mention the extra cost n time that need to be spent. And opening up a watch, getting touch by the technicians...there's always a risk to everything...I think i kindda have OCD

maxis mobile network time isnt constant.
sometimes its 10secs behind, sometimes as much as 30secs.
currently at this time it is about 3secs behind the atomic clock.
*
Wow. Is time constant? So Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity is wrong? Can you prove it?

QUOTE(Everdying @ Dec 16 2012, 01:15 AM)
u compare phone daily?
do u know http://mst.sirim.my/ exists? and it is also based on the atomic clock?

do u know maxis were doing some upgrading to their network last week also?
that time it was much slower than atomic clock.

the usual accuracy for maxis clock i see is always 2-3 secs behind atomic clock.
*
Nice to see you calm down and edit your post. wink.gif
What was your expectation regarding the result of my test?
Did you expect me to give accurate time readings by visual time comparison up to 1/100ths of a second?
Did I mention anything about absolute accuracy in my test and does absolute time accuracy exist?
I did a visual time comparison, with several references including a quartz watch synched with NIST time clock from 1st December, that can be repeated by anyone, share the results if they wanted to and make their own conclusions.

Maxis network upgrading work cause time difference as much as 30s? Show me. laugh.gif

I know mst.sirim,my exists. Just because I don't use it does not mean I don't know it exists.

(IMO It's the closest to a radio wave controlled clock here.)

so if u know it exists why not use it?
since u also probably know maxis references sirim time and then only broadcasts it out which is network dependent.

and i never mentioned anything about your result, just mentioned maxis time.
so if there obviously is some downtime, what kinda broadcast is it going to be sending out?
you do know that 2 telcos were recently fined by MCMC for failing to improve QoS...but i would guess u know too.

anyway, not gonna really bother with u, as are a couple others i know here too.

Fine. Let's discuss about accuracy.

Here's my summary and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Open these in two browser windows and compare:
NIST UTC Time
Malaysian Standard Time

Depending on the user's internet connection ping times there is no difference in the time displayed. I can't see the fuss over which standard should I use. Someone has too much time trolling around.
Posting about stick up the ass, and asking whether my phone is Quartz COSC specs does not help giving a proper reply either.

All hand phones that I have used have an internal clock that can run with or without the auto update enabled. All will run just fine even without a sim card and the accuracy will depend on the internal clock. Does it have anything to do with Maxis? Anyway I'll continue the test and check till the end of this month and see if h/p can deviate 10s, 20s or even 30 off the time standard.

So far I've seen it deviate 5 +/- 1s from the beginning of this month. Feel free to observe yours too, and if it doesn't then make your own conclusion.

Observed accuracy for the past 2 days is +6 of the standard time.
(86400+6)/86400 =100.007%

Good enough for daily use.

Been using the same h/p for the past 6 years and haven't worn a watch for the past ten years till May. My renewed interest in analog watches is that it is easier to visualize time and time elapsed.

There are many people out there that do not use a wristwatch and my intention for posting the comparative test is not to show how accurate the watch is, but it is to show how it can complement the h/p. All one needs is a quick glance, even when there is a variance of 30 seconds +/- or more, one can still tell time fairly accurately to the minute using a cheap Seiko 5. I no longer keep taking the phone out of my pocket to check the time now. Perhaps my previous post and lack of information is not ideal and gives the wrong impression to certain people.

Finally, if I no longer have to respond to a Mr. Obvious or a Mr. Troll then I have nothing to complain either. thumbup.gif

Bought these 3 recently:

Seiko Honda F1 2006 SND659P1 - going to bring it to Thong Sia to adjust the straps, anyone know how much the labor charge for this?
Bought it from Singapore.
Like the simple interface design, with sweet black dial mixed with red lining.

Somehow discovered that it looks like Seiko Titanium Military Chronograph SNA107P1, except that is a black dial, mine is not titanium and it is a panda dial.
Still thinking should I let it go, or to overhaul the whole thing.
By overhaul means change the screen and to coat it black, anyone can recommend?

For good prices, (if you are a collector and buy once a year or less) just choose one shop that treats you well and get familiar with them. Style Watch in Mid Valley LG is my first stop for watches because of that now :-D

OT - surprised there's a Seiko thread here... Will post mine later!

2006 isn't that old. I'm confident parts are available and you can get it fixed and overhauled at Thong Sia in Central Plaza, KL. I doubt that Thong Sia does case & bracelet polishing so you probably need to send it elsewhere.

The model code for your watch is SND119P1.

Guys,

Can i know where can get reasonable price for Seiko watches?

Visited city chain today, although with 20% discount, but the price is still

much more expensive than online seller.

Or any online website can recommend?

The reason why i prefer buy from shop is to make sure the color, model everything is correct.

thanks in advance

I would check model and price online and then only go to the shop and haggle kaw-kaw coz I already know my target price should be lower if not same as online price hahaha

Hey Sifus, I had a very minor scratch on the case of my seiko, is there anyway/any service center that I can go for servicing, perhaps polish it off? sad.gif

if its a minor scratch, dont bother.
if its on polished steel, u can diy using autosol.
if brushed metal, then need to use other stuff.

Thanks! It's polished steel. Reading up on Autosol, seems like it does the magic. Found someone selling in Mudah.com as well, might worth a try.

Final Results of my 7 months old SNK807K1 Comparative Test with my phone.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The phone that I am using for comparison is consistently +6 of standard time. Not sure what happened on the 31st.
Checked yesterday and today -> Still +6 of standard time. wink.gif

Summary:
A Seiko 5 is a reasonably priced watch that will complement a mobile phone for daily timekeeping and scheduling.
A new one will normally run fast +10 or more (set by the factory) but after a few weeks of daily use, the daily error rate will be lower.

I usually wear mine 12 ~ 14 hours per day.

There are claims of super accurate Seiko 5 on the net. But it all depends on how one wears the watch.
From personal experience, worn 4 ~ 8 hours daily with the watch positioned to take advantage of the watch's balance positional error it can be regulated close to zero daily error rate.
Tried it for 2 weeks.

Finally, my 16 year old SKJ006P1 Seiko Kinetic that was overhauled last year was -4 seconds of standard time after 31 days and my 20 years old Tag Heuer quartz was more than 12 hours behind.

My father gave me that 15 years ago, not able to accept the classic look and lay in the drawer till now.
Googled found some seller offering USD120-USD199, not much of cash value, compare with my father purchased it at year 1980 with RM1XX.

That is right.. Got my orange monster from creation with 2 years warranty..
Did compare prices and found creation to be most attractive both in terms of pricing and warranty..
Most sellers offer 1 year warranty with higher prices..
Free delivery with tracking as well, delivered within 3 days..

update on my lume problem of seiko monster...

I sent the watch to thong sia n had it checked. The technician there confirmed that there is indeed a problem with the lume. Currently awaiting reply from seiko Japan on what to do. So I ask if I could have a 1 to 1 xchange, thong sia said no.

What do you guys think? Should I b eligible for an exchange? The watch was bought with a defect, it's not even 1 week in my possesion. I bet that u guys dun wan ppl opening up ur watch for repairing after using it for just a week right. I mean it's not fair, we spend money to buy a good watch, not a watch which needs repair. So naturally, we would want a new replaced watch, not sum repaired watch.

Thong sia said that if I want to exchange, or my money back, shud be done with the local watch shop. What...i mentioned in the previous post that the shopkeeper dun even want to look at my watch(afraid to be responsible i guess). Isn't it the same? the shopkeeper would have claimed it with seiko....

Opinion? We dont buy repaired watch!

Just curious.. what's wrong with the lume?

IMO, nothing wrong with what thong sia said.

Their job is to honor the warranty... ie fix the problem.

It's the same with other products also.. even if buy a Lamborghini and something went wrong on the first week, they will repair it and not 1-to-1 exchange with a new lembu. laugh.gif

in this case, you should deal with the shop instead... not thong sia, unless you want them to fix it for you.

my lume was very dim, n it didnt last an hour..

thong sia was skeptical at 1st because apparently I was the 1st customer to hav such complaints. However, they do have their methods/machines? to check. So after a few days, they confirmed that the lume was faulty.

ok firstly I do not even know how to argue with a shopkeeper who do not even wan to look at the watch he jus sold...scared maybe? secondly, if i were to successfully xchange with the shop, the shop will still claim something from thong sia right? In which i firmly believe that the shop will NOT wan thong sia to repair the watch so that they can sell a REPAIRED watch to som1 else...it jus isn't ethical....get my point on why I wan an exchange? Nobody wans to buy a watch which is defective in the very 1st place...if it was defective halfway thru the warranty then it's another matter.

Just curious how did you test the lume?

How long you charge it and for how long

Btw, on the topic of repaired watch. Even in the factory ...if a unit failed QC before shipping, it'll be re-worked and then test again. So in effect, new watches can be "repaired" watches as well. Same with returned goods etc.

after 1hr the glow isnt visible.
it say 5-8hrs of glow, provided ur in a dark room and ur eyes already get used to the dark.
sounds like u expect it to keep glowing strongly even after 1hr?
maybe u need to get watches with tritium instead.

Fuh.. U got closeup pic of your watch?

If lume is applied and not glowing, then it could mean a whole batch of non-glowing limited edition monsters out there.

Or did they didnt apply lume at all

while your 214270 should also be near silent.

The rollie is silent so that's the problem plus I'm on nato now, hence the rotor sound is especially obvious.

i only see the 4R36 SRP 273/275/277 ones.
except for the black pvd one, the rest are about the same price as the SNZ ones right.
i feel the SRP ones also look nicer abit.
*
Yup, the SRP ones seems to be same price with SNZ now.
But the SNZ used to be lower in price.
They've increased the retail price.
For instance the SNZ black PVD on used to retail at approx 680, but now it retails for 830+ rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Do you guys get annoyed by the rotor noise? Tried out a 4r36 monster just now and it also got that rotor noise.
*
Looks like you have an allergy to Seiko watches. wink.gif The noise is there only when I look for it when wearing the watch. Otherwise, it doesn't really bother me.

Some noise or I prefer "sound" is inevitable due to the design and function of the Magic Lever winding system. It is was first designed in 1951 and is used in the current 7S26 all the way to 8L35 movement. It uses only 4 components for the winding mechanism. Compare that to the conventional winding gear design with reverser. The Swiss have something similar: Pellaton winding mechanism that uses more parts and jewels to achieve the same function.

This is also one of the reason why I love Seiko watches.

Like the theme song sung by Carly Simon from The Spy Who Loved Me:

Nobody does it better
Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you
Baby, you're the best.........

thumbup.gif

If you want a mechanical Seiko with conventional winding system that is quieter, go for Grand Seiko 9SXX movements.

My vote, 1st 309 2nd 307. the rest i'll pass

Reason : 309 is the Iconic "Orange Monster" but now with hack and wind while 307 is the "Black Monster"

I dont like PVD coatings on any Seiko's as I find that they dont last.

Thanks, eyeing for a srp309 and hoping to get one in the new few months, do you have any monster? If you do, do you mind taking and showing a pic of any monster and this model of seiko 5 that you own? And since it is categorized as diver watch, is anyone here actually a diver and wear their diver watches diving? :/

If you do, do you mind taking and showing a pic of any monster and this model of seiko 5 that you own? And since it is categorized as diver watch, is anyone here actually a diver and wear their diver watches diving? :/

Hi, where you bought the straps? How much for it?
Does it made by Hadley-Roma?
Been look for it quite some time, only managed to found it at Pertama Shopping Complex.

What beauty! but for me, rm150 is a little bit too much for a watch leather strap, unless the original one is worn out. Probably will go look for some Fossil leather straps, from my experience they are pretty decent.

Yup, RM150 also sound quite expensive for me, but this is absolutely looks so nice!
Hadley-Roma which can purchase from Amazon cost USD35, and the watch shop at Pertama Shopping Complex selling the similar strap for RM135 before discount.
Anyone has better data regarding this thick leather strap?

I love the lugs on the Sumo and the current pricing in Taiwan is not too far off from the new monster.

But the size... very much on the fence on this.

do the lugs curve to fit the wrist? or is there a little gap?
it does look almost borderline, but imo best way to see is via a reflection from a mirror a few feet away.
thats usually a better perspective.
i got 7.25" wrists, and even i find 43mm watches look big...cant imagine the spork tongue.gif

Yeah, I think its too big. The diameter of the wrist viewed from the top ideally should be more than the lug to lug measurement of the watch. Why don't you try out the SBDX001 Marinemaster? It has the same lug to lug length but appears smaller than the Sumo.

Just asking.. Anyone mod their Seiko 5? Mine is 7S26, so mechanical wise is a NO NO for mods, but how about the dial, the case, the lume, strap, anything..

I know leather or Nato strap can be found, but other than that, seems impossible.. Can teach or share?

Thanks.

standard disc most places is 30%.
but the ones here apparently are made in taiwan, although there is no indication anywhere on the dial / case of where its made in.

Some stores allow you to swap the strap with another watch on display. As long as it is genuine and you got a fair price for it, its not really a big issue anyway.

The important thing is to do is to research before buying.

My initial thought was that all of the models has two strap options for it. Either the bracelet or the rubber strap. Haha.

thats why i always buy watches with bracelet first, then source for strap.
i did that with my old monster, then bought the strap from thong sia for rm38.
i sold off that old monster awhile ago, but kept the bracelet for my new monster tongue.gif

u can always try call thong sia see if they will sell u the bracelet or not, code is 49X8-G-C.

Hi guys, plan to buy a Seiko SNK809 black dial. Thinking of changing the band with a 16mm brown leather band. Will it fits? The band width on the watch is 16.8mm.
and what's the reasonable price for this watch?
Thanks smile.gif

More spam of my new love!

Frcsw, you came into seiko's thread. so i guess the answer would be a seiko.. as for models, quite hard to recommend you since you did not mention anything other than your budget. smile.gif

Surely better than the Tissot and Certina quartz that you were previously looking at...

- Sapphire crystal like both the Swiss
- 100m water resist (not that you'll be swimming with it) vs 30m for the Tissot and 50m for the Certina
- Screw in caseback vs the push pressure type for the Swiss
- Seiko lume
