Hi, I have some question regarding Citibank credit card approval.

I never had any credit card before (1st time applying for a credit card) & my salary is RM24k per annum. I just want to apply a card mostly for online shopping.

I applied the Citibank Gold Visa & just received a letter from them today stating that they're unable to offer me a Citibank credit card at this point in time.

Does this mean I will not be able to apply for any Citibank credit card anymore? And will this also indicate that it will be difficult for me to apply a credit card from other bank(s)?

Thank you for any kind suggestions & advices in advance.

Someone posted here a while ago that Citibank no longer offers credit card to those who have never had a credit card. This apparently is a new Citibank policy.

Hi guys, I bought a smartphone last week on my Clear card and am currently trying to turn in into installments before my due date on Jan 2. However I keep getting this error message below.

"We are unable to process your request at the moment. If you continue to encounter this problem, please call our 24-Hour Citiphone Banking at 03-2383 0000 for assistance."

Called Citiphone on the 26th and they said they will look into it and give me a reply within 3 working days. In the meantime anybody know what's wrong with it?

You still can apply for Citibank card in future.

Different banks will have different set of criteria, some are more lenient than others.

Thanks for the reply.

That seems like a strange policy. So I guess I won't be able to get any Citibank credit card then since I didn't even have 1.

Thanks for the replies & have a Happy New Year smile.gif

It has been like this for a long time now that they rarely approve if your first credit card is citibank.

Is it possible if I open a citibank account locally and link it to my overseas citibank account? Would you recommend me to do this to transfer my money internationally ? Would the charges be on the high side as compared to hsbc? Sorry a bit noob in this.

Like i said before at previous post. Citi only approve listed/gov & mnc company employee if the person do not have any c.card/loan from other bank more than a year. If u got more than a year record from other bank and payment/dsr is good..what company also can approve if u meet the requirement except u got 2 bank issuer <36k p.a income or non target market for banks. Home verification is 1 of citi important criteria/score for an application, so if u know ur home phone no ppl pick up or whatever reason that they fail to contact u. Pls attach ur phonebill statement 1st page that show ur name and address together when u submit ur docs for processing. Hope this info help abit smile.gif

Hi Guys,
I am thinking to apply for a Citibank card. But I read those promotions like Coffee Bean buy 1-free-1 ended in 2012. I know there are some other promotions too but if someone could confirm these promotions still on going for 2013, then it would be good.

Thanks!
