Woah, long time no see earthdome. How r u? Where've u been? LOL Its been ages man.. And yup, now maybe the right time to buy 1.. Hehehe Welcome back!

was so busy with my thesis. now just graduated. lol. need to find a job and a car.
still have the most interest on preve. my family are against it though. all ask me to buy conti car. i'd prefer 70k price at max. so can invest on something else like house etc.
will test drive it in few days. but hopefully the test drive car is already updated with new ECU/TCU.

ok, below are just my point of view. feel free to comment, but no offence to city, vios, almera car owner

i test drove following car
a) Proton Preve (2 times! 1 time on old ECU mapping, 1 time on new ECU mapping)
+ full spec and full accessories car
+ 7 speed auto with turbo
+ cheap, at RMxx000
+ relatively bigger car
- pickup relatively slow compared to Japanese car, but very smooth pickup from 0-120km/h, can feel the car is powerful (0-100km/h take 9.6sec!)
- very worry on workmanship (proton bad reputation!)
- engine a bit noisy compared to Japanese car

b) Nissan Almera
+ good suspension
+ engine very quiet
+ very good choice for mum car (good basic car @67k for local drive to school/market, better than myvi)
- 4 speed auto
- expensive, at RM77k, full accessories at RM80k
- very basic car, to add accessories, expensive
- good pickup from 0-70km/h, but slow from 70-120km/h, suspect due to 1.5L engine limitation

c) Toyota Vios
+ good handling
- 4 speed auto
- expensive, at RM78k, full accessories at RM89k
- very basic small car, to add accessories, expensive
- good pickup from 0-70km/h, but slow from 70-120km/h, suspect due to 1.5L engine limitation

d) Honda City
+ sporty car
+ engine very quiet
+ 5 speed auto
- expensive, at RM82k, full accessories at RM85k
- basic small car
- good pickup from 0-70km/h, but slow from 70-120km/h, suspect due to 1.5L engine limitation

good and valid points
but the point of your review?

the preve does sound decent overall - it's just the brand is tarnished and based on after sales you quiver a bit when planning to buy a proton.

Not yet... why steal Preve, sell parts? Sell the car? Who is going to buy. There is no incentive YET to steal Preve.

However that might change in the future. No security system is thief-proof. Not in Preve, not even in the latest S-Class. Thieves will be able to steal them in due time...

did "5 star ANCAP compliance" official already?
or just Proton claim so?

it was design to comply... wait till Preve on the road in australia, then wait for ANCAP to pick Preve for testing.

abs wont be triggered if the speed is less than 80km/j.. the thing that control the car fr being strayed is the body control module aka Electronic Stabiliser Control not abs... no? hmm.gif

Preve R3? CFE 180HP and 6-speed manual. That is possible. I think the CFE is detuned a little bit because of the CVT gearbox. If they are using manual they can tune it for more performance.

too much of work and effort to get the cps inline with the euro emission... i dont think there will be an enhancement on that... on the other hands, cfe had limitation on the cvt gearbox. unless Punch Powertrain could improve the withstand of the cvt to handle more torque, the cfe will remain as is..

but anything can happen lah.. this is only my prediction.. heard the news they are buying E01 petronas engine with the exclusive rights?! coupled that with the borg warner... or sprintex turbocharge.. fuuuuu....

How about a hot Preve hatchback. Call it some other name, not Preve. Make it a Type-R or a Golf GTi-type car. CFE engine with more power, more torque, 17" wheels, 6-speed manual, sportier-tuned suspension. No more limitation of the CVT when you are using a manual gearbox.
