QUOTE(Kent3888 @ Sep 22 2010, 03:05 PM) Hi All experienced person here..... Can give me some advise? I'm a fresh grad holding a Master in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering(Honours) from University of Nottingham. I just started working for 3 months as a Sales Engineer at a ESD manufacturing company from Singapore for Semicon industry. I'm still under probation for 6 months, 3 more to go. (Previously I've chosen this position over a R&D engineer in Panasonic A/C Malaysia because having higher pay and benefits here) I felt a bit wasted to work as sales engineer, and wonder how far can I go in this job. How do you guys advise me? I really thinking of venturing into O&G industry, but I have not contacts at all around me. Nobody into this field, anyone here can provide me details and intro pls?? Your advice is very much appreciated. maybe u wanna try working in Singapore? heard higher pay and better benefits there. http://bit.ly/d2G4LU

leer.. all young 'uns best thing to do is not complain, suck it up and get the experience you need before demanding for high pay. You do realize earning like 10K is basically quite low in this industry. SO if that's what you are aiming for then too bad lor. The others who have the experience and work hard will get their fair share while the one who sits behind the desk pushing pens and complaining will be the one who well sad to say earn the least.
Oh btw, someone with masters in Eng vs someone with a degree in Eng BUT with work experience.. well u do the math, the degree holder wins.. why? cos he did his time and did not complain.

People think that with master degree or PhD, they deserve the right to demand more salary. it just don't happen if you have ZERO EXPERIENCE.

hey guys!! been reading through this thread..very informative.. i wonder, is it better for me to join downstream contractors dealing with big operating companies to gain some experiences before moving into upstream considering that i'm a fresh graduate. or directly apply for upstream companies?? i know that would be tough though..

dialog has been awarded jobs from PCSB worth Rm 60 mil. no wonder they're recruiting now.
Added on October 7, 2010, 1:57 pmcontrary to the popular belief of 'all work & no play' in O&G field, there are a lot of career opportunities from support side of O&G.
jobs such as design engineers, proposal engineers, estimators, etc normally not as 'rough' as on the field jobs, but salary wise is still competitive.
also because the nature of work is not labour intensive, normally the 'client' would hire you as employee.

It's kinda weird to me that a lot of people in peninsular have trouble finding oil and gas jobs but this seems like a cake walk for Mirians. Maybe its true if joining manpower supply company such as bayong or gas...I found most of our outsourced worker are mirians..i.e; roustabout,roughneck.etc...they come from nothing and worked hard to become someone...I met a guy who already 50+ but still working as roughneck...and I also met a guy who just 29 yrs but already worked as driller and being direct hired to our company... As for engineer or other specialist, I think the oppurtunity between east and west malaysia is about the same... This post has been edited by meonkutu11: Oct 9 2010, 09:13 AM
