kalkulator85, good choice to go back to studying. SLB is very smart not to let their people learn too much from the helicopter point of view but make you focus on proprietary technology within SLB, which unfortunately is quite untransferrable.

Anyway, the MSc will help you reverse that, but then again, ex-SLBians are known in the industry to be able to take all kind of shit a.k.a. die hard & also at times excessive planning - pre-job meeting, HARCs, Q-STOP, JRI, PRA, etc, so make sure you use that to your advantage! Don't join back O&G services, target oil companies but again remember your SQ training, plan plan & plan ahead and also excellence in execution! You're now officially in charge of your life and you kinda only have 1 choice!

So, take advantage of the extra free time you get with uni life! I know after 2 months in yemeni desert with no internet no phone (if you're lucky at least a slow VSAT connection) and your highlight of the week being the terrorist drills, you feel like you deserve a break but don't let that get you! After joining SLB, you should know how hungry the other ppl from other third world countries are but they are your competition now! Make sure you join local SPE chapter and become one of the committee members & be very active & gung-ho. Like you said already, networking is important. The job is not hard but people like to work with people they like.

If you're shy, go & join Toastmasters to develop your public speaking skills. If even more shy than that, go sign up in the weekends to be those guys doing outdoor sales, selling credit card, MLM or membership of this & that but don't buy those things yourself of course and no need to put in CV. Also, don't forget to pick up a sport e.g. golf.

Anyway, good luck and enjoy!

Hi bro,
care to share what is your previous job with scumberger and what are you planning to be after you complete your Msc? You mentioned that you interested with reservoir e.g subsurface, perhaps you want to venture in reservoir engineer? Or maybe you can be petroleum technologist? both job is office based, but pay wise is still consider very good.
Although three years doesnt seem long, but it will give you a advantage when you going for interview later since you have a basic knowledge in ONG.
Anyway, good luck in your study.

bro, i give u plenty of hints already so no need to be so clear-cut. Need to maintain some form of anonymity lah. But do share with us your experience & what you think could be done better if you met any obstacles.

well basically yes im going to that.. becoming RE, PetTechnologist or even geologist but wat im really looking for is wellsite geologist, surveying works..working on ship n sailing.(more money and i like to work offshore)just to mention some of the companies so u would b clear..western geco, furgo, geoservices, i really wanna fell both sides d planner n d executor..n as exp007 advice go to oil company, i'd like to go to oil company since once i graduated i already 27 but i would preferably wanna involve in formation evaluation but i guess baker hughes also have great team on that.but if theY put me IN office based y not..for a start not going to b that picky but mayb i would suggest to the bos to select one day where everyone has to wear coverall in office.. laugh.gif

basically d previous job d challenge is more on operation n d instruments..its more on learning d equipments n handling them n do maintainence n collecting data etc...this is d segment where d company man would b asking which one is d engineer. cause he would c everyone holding a sladge hammer connecting 3-4inc pipes n some of them climbing the tanks.. flex.gif

Hi guys, could you share your experience while hunting for job opportunity in this field
while you're as fresh grads? What you do during that time, how you find the job and
how you try to impress the interviewer. Now days, I find it quite hard to get an interview
in this field. It is because I'm a freshie? I don't know. Probably you guys can helps. smile.gif

Bro,

Looks like you are one of the slb trainee/junior engineer who need to becomes GFE in 3 years...

I dont know how it is in slb but i do work for 1 of the slb segment.....i bet you ever heard about westerngeco...

yeah i am one of the specialist onboard seismic vessel.....i know and i've seen numbers of seismic engineers quit coz they cant complete gred 11 within 3years...most of them were under pressured d/t they need to take over chief's job when they get to gred 11 which is normal crew spent 10-15 years
before became a gred 11 chief ...one more thing is, the 5weeks onboard, 3weeks office assignment and only 2 weeks break schedule seems the main reason why most of the engineers quit...

not sure what was your reason....if you hate the hard work and shitty schedule in yamen you are most welcome to joint seismic crew coz i can give guarantee there is no hard work, greasy coverall, sweat like a pig at all....you will enjoy recording room, sitting on the chair, starring your eyes to 12 diff monitors for 5 weeks and a solid break...no on call, no stay over or no surprise at all...

4 sure i heard bout western geco ..we used to be brothers..haha considering i 've already quit..thanks 4 d info bro. ..just let say i am demotivated..even with USD 6-8k.. seems d money only could keep my motivation for less than 3 years.got an idea..in ur early career buat hutang2 banyak@kawin , 4 sure x nak tinggalkan company..hehe4 sure after finishing my msc western geco is definitely the type of company im looking for....hopefully they accept me this time..i'll become ur junior..please stay k amarah.. icon_idea.gif 4 ur info before i took a post as FE i went to final interview with western geco as seismic engineeer but i got reject by them because they told me they need someone with petroleum eng/geologist/geophysic ..well basically a degree where u learn bout sub surface...at least that's wat the western geco manager told me..( i called them asking d reason i got reject..haha)not sure bout other excuses..but those who wanna try become FE in my previous company u should try. there r also people who survive in the company n become manager in the company..(big salute to them but only to those brilliant manager-those with human skills)try it,maybe this is d place for u..but amarah..'5weeks onboard, 3weeks office assignment and only 2 weeks break schedule' that's definitely a good schedule..even 4 start WG less usd1000 from us.. whistling.gif whistling.gif ..

well ya...i was talking about seismic engineer program...but for a slave program..or so called specialist we enjoy our great rotation, 5week on and 5week off...

money wise....no doubt other segment in slb makes more than us....
the only thing make me stay here is the fix rotation...no prob at all to plan for vacation…

once you done with ur Msc you are most welcome to westerngeco...you could choose either to become specialist or engineer...then you will enjoy your life...money….OK larr….
