I just started so I wouldn't be familliar with the situation. But to my knowledge, the comapny is expanding so there might be more opportunities.

Hi All experienced person here..... Can give me some advise?

I'm a fresh grad holding a Master in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering(Honours) from University of Nottingham. I just started working for 3 months as a Sales Engineer at a ESD manufacturing company from Singapore for Semicon industry. I'm still under probation for 6 months, 3 more to go. (Previously I've chosen this position over a R&D engineer in Panasonic A/C Malaysia because having higher pay and benefits here)

I felt a bit wasted to work as sales engineer, and wonder how far can I go in this job. How do you guys advise me? I really thinking of venturing into O&G industry, but I have not contacts at all around me. Nobody into this field, anyone here can provide me details and intro pls?? Your advice is very much appreciated.

Oil and Gas industry may bring you the big bucks, but there are many trade-offs.
One of the most obvious, the time spent with your family and friends are definitely lesser.
Having spent 8 months interning in an O&G company, it definitely wasn't all fun and joy there. The stress and workload is high, the working hours are long, and basically, oil and gas companies are situated at remote places, i.e. no fun.

However, if you really want to venture into this field for the sake of money, go for servicing companies such as Halliburton, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes etc.
Operating companies such as Petronas and Shell does not have that high pay compared to servicing companies.

For example: basic pay for fresh grad in Halliburton RM4.5k+, in schlumberger RM5k+
In petronas, it is only RM 4k, Shell RM 3.8k

But you have to set your priorities right.
When I interned there, my collegues always tell me, yes the pay is good, but you get shit all the time, no life.

Just my 2 cents. smile.gif
