Well, there are so many O&G co. around, so many fields, some work offshore, some work in the office. Some work in remote places while others enjoy the buzz of city life. So, in a way, you choose to become what you are... Got to lie on the bed that you've made, right? |

There are so many ONG company that give you high paid, with normal working hours (most of the time that is). When you factor the working condition, facilities, location, you can see some line of work is not as bad as what you said that also give you big bucks. Also, dont compare freshies salary, of course it will be different. Try to compare people with experiance of 5,10,20 years experiance. It might not be too different. |

OnG, a technologically cutting edge industry. new industrial equipment/standard/practise generally comes to OnG 1st before trickle down to others.
i.e one of my old manager tell me that last time OnG use safety harness when other plants just use safety belt. true? false? mostly true? |

Actually, what jingle bubbles says about operating companies and servicing companies are correct. When one is on the client side one will, well basically hammer the contractor cos heck! we paid for it and when one is on the contractor side kena hammer lor. lol. Certain position salaries can be higher on the client side but most of them are lower vs contractor but do remember when being on contractor side the salary is based on the contract you signed with the company and only for the duration of the project. You will not get the benefits of the client when sitting on contractor side, etc.
For example Shell's max payout for a HSE Advisor is only rm13.5k whereas should one sit on contractor side it can go up to 20k and more depending on the project. However, specific positions have recently come to light which actually bumps that figure up such as Marine HSE, which commands a min of 17k up to 25k depending on contract and situation. SO it's pretty much how you negotiate and how much you think you are worth to the company. |
