Hi all, have some question regarding tax for EP holder... I just changed to new company in Oct. So IRAS has taxed me for my income from previous employer, so will I get taxed as non-resident rate (<183 days in SG) for my Nov and Dec income?

Thanks.
*
I am not sure, but for my case, My employer didn't tax me anything because it shows my income below 20k since i left the company in January.
They do provide me with an IRAS letter showing my income for year 2012 but no tax deduction was made. I work in that company more than 2 years though.

Hi guys,

I am working as an accounts executive in a small local company in Singapore.

My working hours is from 8am to 6pm Mon to Sat. I have already signed the employment contract. My total working hours is 54 hours.

However I check the MOM guideline which states no employee shall be required to work for more than 8 hours a day or more than 44 hours in a week.

My question is can I tell my company that is illegal and I need not work on Saturday since my 54 hours already exceed the 44 hours rule? However I already signed the employment contract a few months back. This is the problem.

Thanks in advance. Hate to work on Saturdays.

Big question: Do you earn more than 2k per month? (there is neg. to increase the limit but not confirm yet)

Sencond question: Did you read this http://www.mom.gov.sg/employment-practices...es/default.aspx ?

Accountant more than 2k is not covered. Count yourself lucky as some accountant need to work till 10pm.

This is Sg, most info are there on the gov official site. There is a MOM number on the web for you to make complain. The last things you need is any advice from a person not working in SG on local legal issue. You better don't reply here if you are work permit holder who earn less than 2k. Another guy will call you a rubbish and advise you to work in Malaysia stay in your parent's house.

Let's recap.
1) Dendroid_King said he works long hours and think it's not fair.
2) I replied it's the norm as i work about 54 hours a week as well.
3) All of a sudden, from nowhere Mackiddo came and and said told me to F*&k off about my pathetic working hours

I don't know about you but its clear to all who is the troll here and who's the idiot here.
And here, this idiot keeps harping about previous posting. Well, i guess nobody wants to know coz nobody's interested.
Mr. Troll, if you decide to continue trolling i suggest you go to /k/.
That place would suit you just fine!
*
you tell people your pathetic working hours is norm which is not. You tried to manipulate him further by asking him not to seek further clarification. And you are the moron who trying to twist the fact just because you have a pathetic working life and think everyone should be like you, the norm. well the thing is, nobody is interested in your post since day 1, judging from all your previous post.

Mackiddo and Mercury,

The both of you offer very constructive advise. Thanks to both of you.

Please don't quarrel because of me. I am sure this is just a misunderstanding. Sometimes in life it doesn't matter who is right. When I am angry, I would also say things that hurt others which made the quarrel worse.

Anyway I just read more carefully and the max hours from the employment act does not apply to me as my salary is above 2k.

It's time for me to move on and to get a new job as soon as possible.

Thanks to both of you. And please try to forget the conflicts.
*
Some parties try to lift the limit to around 4k next year. Hope for some year end bonus and move on after CNY.

1. I told him. yes. NOT YOU. I did not tell you. But you feel the need to interfere. Why?

2. Where in my comments did i ask him not to seek further clarification? Kindly point out. I did not say those things. You did. again why?

3. I did not twist any facts. I certainly did not say i have a pathetic working life. You did. Why is it your concern, i still don't know. If you do not want to be like me, that's your problem. Calling me a moron and putting words in my mouth is NOT. It becomes a personal attack and like anyone being attacked I will strike back.

Seriously the more you talk, the more moronic you sound.
What you stated is a personal attack from the start and it continues.
But rest assured I will not back down. I never did.
Idiots like you should really see the light.
And what is this judging from all your previous post?
You keep track of all my previous post? Am I that important to you?
Or do you agree with my previous post and was still anal about it?
For Christ sake, move on. Get a life. If your life revolves around keeping scores of what people said, i feel for you.
You're just pathetic.
And you clearly shown that here, for all to see

Calling someone a moron and twisting facts is not an exchange of opinion, its a personal attack.
Uncalled for and moronic is what you are.
Worst of all is keeping count of all the "previous post".
Seriously get a life, you pathetic little bugger.

Wow! Now you say i don't have life? You staling me or smtg? If yes, then you might have stalked the wrong person. Coz the last i checked, you were the ones keeping score of what everyone says in lowyatnet? No? I gave a reply to some forumer -again I stress NOT to YOU - and you feel the need to call my working hours "Pathetic"? I did not even comPlain about my working hours but somehow you seemed pissed about my pathetic working hours. Where is the logic in that? Why is my working hours your concern? And then you go on to claim smtg about my previous post? You keep track pf what everbody says? You have a scorecard? Seriously you need to get a new hobby man. And now it seems like you know me? You spend your free time stalking people in lowyatnet? If that is not pathetic i don't know what is!

My salary is above 2k. Looks like I have no protection at all.

So it seems that under Singapore law, it's okay if the contract signed is for working 24 hours and 7 days a week. As in for those above 2k. Looks like most employees would not have any protection at all.

Actually I am not really complaining about working
more hours. I just want to check whether my contract breached the employment law. If it does I will have the upper hand.

Normally most companies would give a standard working hours unlike mine. And if they wan u to overtime, they will use bonus or warnings for poor performance. My company is kinda odd. They nvr ask me to overtime beyond my working hours anyway.

This is no different than Malaysia what. The employment act (in Malaysia) is there to protect the uneducated general workers from being exploited by their employers. It's there because these class of workers do not have the education, knowledge, smarts, whatever to properly read employment contracts. Once you're above a certain salary treshhold, it's assumed by the government that you are smart enough to read contracts and decide whether it's good or it's utter crap before you sign up (and not, say, after you sign up and then later on change your mind).

But I can tell you it's a construction company. It's a small local chinaman company. If I were to let u know, my company will die even faster.

So is it familiar to u? Haha......

Construction companies might face alot of cash flow problem because of those progressive claims by sub-cons.

I think your working hours is LONG but many people have worked/are working longer hours. There's no point telling on your employer now afterall you've agreed on the working hours before.

Look elsewhere lah if not happy. Try to leave things amicably if possible biggrin.gif

If it is just the sub con, it would be alright.

I have workers starving becoz nvr pay wages overdue for 2 months. And rental of the land for their operation. The thing about construction company is once you don't have the funds to complete the Project on time, the revenue would not come in and will be delayed. Anyway they are not making money also.

Now my boss is ignoring me whenever I request for any payment. He is hiding in overseas and it's hard to contact him. I feel abandoned. But partly is my fault. Becoz I told him how much debts we have and it is impossible to sustain the company.

Anyway you guys are right. The company is dying a slow death. And I have to get a new job.

The bad thing is I have only work there for a few months. So my resume would be very bad. Sigh. The interviewers might not believe me. I guess this is what happens when u sign the contract out of job desperation.

What are you going to say to the potential employers if you were called up for interviews? And why do you think they might not believe you?

I think you need to be focus now and stop being negative. Resign if you wish and then send out your resume for job applications. The more bickering the more miserable your life would become.

There's no point frowning on your past decisions; ie accepting a job out of desperation. This is a life lesson.

Yeah what you say is true. Thanks for that.

It's just that this is not the only job that I work less than a year. In a way I really screw my resume. And becoz I am holding S Pass its not easy for me to find jobs since it will be given to locals first. And usually the jobs that I get can be very bad.

Right now I have to rethink about my plans.

Vincent,

I am just a low level accounts and not really a real certified accountant. Anyway most business needs accts ppl becoz u need to know how much profit u r making and calculate wages.

Anyway there are regulations to submit ur company accounts to the government.
