QUOTE(Dendroid_King @ Nov 27 2012, 05:17 PM) Hi guys, Work for big 4 in KL 2 yrs already 5k mang.why join small sg construction firm? The accounts are messy somemore.I am working as an accounts executive in a small local company in Singapore. My working hours is from 8am to 6pm Mon to Sat. I have already signed the employment contract. My total working hours is 54 hours. However I check the MOM guideline which states no employee shall be required to work for more than 8 hours a day or more than 44 hours in a week. My question is can I tell my company that is illegal and I need not work on Saturday since my 54 hours already exceed the 44 hours rule? However I already signed the employment contract a few months back. This is the problem. Thanks in advance. Hate to work on Saturdays. Added on November 28, 2012, 11:16 am QUOTE(Dendroid_King @ Nov 28 2012, 10:51 AM) Yeah what you say is true. Thanks for that. Language you use in that company is mandarin? It's just that this is not the only job that I work less than a year. In a way I really screw my resume. And becoz I am holding S Pass its not easy for me to find jobs since it will be given to locals first. And usually the jobs that I get can be very bad. Right now I have to rethink about my plans. Vincent, I am just a low level accounts and not really a real certified accountant. Anyway most business needs accts ppl becoz u need to know how much profit u r making and calculate wages. Anyway there are regulations to submit ur company accounts to the government. This post has been edited by Materazzi: Nov 28 2012, 11:16 AM |

QUOTE(mercury8400 @ Nov 29 2012, 09:05 PM) Why is it hard to work in Big 4 especially in SG? High salary and high turnover? Why?They are perpetually hiring. Last I heard from my intern, they hired everyone who applied in his class. I think its KPMG. Neway auditors are in short supply in SG. I always thought those Big 4 would grab as many as they possibly can get their hands on since the turnover rate is quite high. Unless, of course, your petty with this and that. |

Big 4 hands down commercial la.Aren't you the one who said that your current company has a going concern and might bankrupt soon and you don't want to stick around for that to happen? Aren't you the one who said that its difficult finding another job? The Big 4 will be a good choice then. As long as you're willing to work in teams that have crappy bosses, long hours and no one else wants to join, I don't foresee a reason that they would not want to hire you. Afterall, you don't have much of a choice and at least a Big 4 on your CV looks better than trying to explain the unemployment gap in your CV Big 4 has transparent salary. The salary is quite high there for the increment. Added on November 30, 2012, 10:31 pm QUOTE(mercury8400 @ Nov 30 2012, 07:33 PM) Wait a minute... QUOTE(mercury8400 @ Nov 30 2012, 11:33 PM) Not really. To work long hours or not is a choice once you become manager. That's what i hv learned. I jist delegate to subordinates so i can go home earlier.Managers also depends on the company and team. My ex is also a manager for one of the big 4 and she works crazy hours too. She believes in leading by example, something I don't believe in. once u go home earlier your boss will add additional jobs to u. U hv choice to reject the additional jobs too. If you are young and love to go travel then choose big 4 |

QUOTE(seantang @ Dec 15 2012, 10:39 PM) Thanks. This will not happen if you stay in big 4. Luckily, you are single, if you are not single walau..I'm actually as front office/customer facing/rain making as a finance person in a MNC can get... doing business partnering accountable for profitability.. But am in one those "developmental" roles in fast growing biz units & geographies where every US or European finance person hoping to escape to Asia, will target my role in their development plan. My survival depends very much on the survival of my sponsors and supporters in the new global mgt team. In big 4 there is no lay off kekekekeke.. My friend in purchasing just resigned.he chose to resign rather than being laid off.. Added on December 17, 2012, 1:28 amNow european company choose to do cost cutting.move their operations to low cost country. Big 4 people in restructuring make monry now. QUOTE(T3N5AI @ Dec 18 2012, 10:31 AM) Food : Sg is not much diff compare to M'sia, but even cheaper if u do not convert the currency How come u dont hv 30k rm after worked for 5 yrs? Maybe u already had house here?Car : No need car in SG. Public transportation in SG is unlike M'sia ones, theirs are much more on time. I seem to find jams in Sg more manageable compare to KL jams. Family : Definitely in M'sia Friends : Part of them in M'sia, part of them in Sg House : Thats the sad part. Double storey house and big room in M'sia, but small HDB room with prices like SGD of 700 and above at prime areas. Well said that $$ is the only thing that attracts. Which is also the only thing that cased many to actually flock to Sg. To be honest, if M'sia was doing a little better in its economy, say closing in the currency gap, who'd rather work in Sg compare to our homeland? All of us have no choice but to bear with the Sg cultural shock and the living environment and lifestyle in SG. I've decided to finally make my move after 5 years of working in Malaysia and seeing no future to it. My friends who started out in Sg already has more than SGD 50k savings and I don't even have RM 30k to begin with, many of them are eyeing on property investments in M'sia and I don't even think of owning a property in M'sia. This is so sad. |

QUOTE(T3N5AI @ Dec 18 2012, 01:01 PM) Well, I have a 2nd hand car to begin with, need to pay parents, insurance, handphone, room rental, what else is left? Then why don't you aim the oil and gas? As an engineer, u will be earning peanuts everywhere in malaysia unless u r in oil and gas. Engineers are more in demand in singapore than accounting. If you don't have family then go for it. |

QUOTE(seantang @ Jan 28 2013, 02:56 PM) You have to put it into perspective. How about CUHK or univ of leicester? The Harvard-NUS MBA or Insead Singapore MBA will trade at a discount to a Harvard US MBA or Insead France MBA. No doubt about it. But then, I would rather get Harvard-NUS or Insead SG in my resume rather than spending a year or two in University of Bath or Herriot Watt or what not, to do a full time MBA.
