I've been on the RM88 4mb Streamx Unipack plan.
Now the 24 month contract is ending. I heard that we can continue with it. Should I continue with the RM88 4mb Streamyx? Or go on and install my RM118 10mb Maxis plan? I'm really satisfied with this 4mb. It's more than enough for me as I only use internet for work. I hardly download and dont play games at all. It's really stable. Never give me any headache. Then when I look over at this Maxis thread, there seems to be a lot of problems with the router. I need stability. That's the most important. Don't know what to do. Maxis installer will come in mid September. I dont need IPTV. I still can cancel it but Im still on the fence. Is it worth it to pay RM30 extra for a 6mb more speed? But then get a potential headache.. And does the modem/router need to be next to the TV? Or can we put the modem/router wherever we want to like streamyx modem? |

From the words and sentence of your story: better don't install this Maxis FTTH 10Mbps plan because:Now the 24 month contract is ending. I heard that we can continue with it. Or can we put the modem/router wherever we want to like streamyx modem? 1) You really satisfied with current Streamyx 4Mbps, NEVER give you ANY headache 2) 4Mbps is more than enough for you as you only use internet for work, not a heavy downloader/gamer 3) You don't need IPTV 4) You don't have to pay extra RM30 per month If you still want to install this Maxis FTTH 10Mbps, the fiber modem and wireless Thomson router can be placed anywhere in your house during installation - be it in the kitchen, in your bedroom, in living hall or at car porch. It recommended to be installed near to Television so that easy for you later to install TV Set-top Box and connect that box to your TV for IPTV viewing purpose. In my opinion, if you don't use IPTV you may put the modem and router where you usually use the internet. Closer to to you means better coverage and speed for your wireless internet experience |

QUOTE(barca96 @ Aug 31 2012, 12:39 PM) Well, you can either:1. Cancel, and wait till Maxis sorts out their problems, but end up paying RM138/148 for 10MB. 2. Proceed with the 10MB installation, pay RM118, but deal with the technical issues for a while until Maxis sorts out their issues. I chose the first one, since I'm likely to move within the next 6 months and didn't want to deal with cancelling my subscription and paying any fees. But in your case, the second option might be worthwhile. Since you are not a heavy user, you might not feel the pain of dealing with the technical problems as much, and I suspect Maxis will soon enough sort it out. You'll also be saving yourself about RM720-960 over your 24month contract period by going with the lower RM118 price, and obviously more if you continue your Maxis subscription. The only thing we won't know, of course, is if other ISPs will offer more attractive packages over the next few months. |

Or can we put the modem/router wherever we want to like streamyx modem? if i had $88 4mb package, i would not change. especially when it is fast enough and stable. issue with signing new package - waste of money (you can buy something else with $360/yr saved). - commitment to long contract (then you may miss even better package in future) - fibre internet required drilling wall. - unknown technical issue (eg trottle, private ip, instability etc) anyway i'm happy with this from 1mbps streamyx. coz more bandwidth for 3 of us, surfing and streaming smoothly. QUOTE(swimming @ Aug 31 2012, 05:46 PM) It's simply because VOIP using different VLAN compare to Internet. As long as your fiber cable is connected and VOIP vlan don't have any problem, your phone should work even during Internet is fail to connect.QUOTE(sparrowed @ Aug 31 2012, 06:39 PM) Current Maxis FTTH international routing very bad, so if you play online game with your friend located in international internet link it will give high latency and almost unplayable gaming experience. |
