Had a good calisthenics thread going before, but somehow the ts of the thread emoed over something and went missing from the forums.
Consequently his fans and followers disappeared from this section as well. Try searching for it. Its a guy who's doing bw stuff using a power rack. Don't remember his nick though. |

QUOTE(FLampard @ Aug 5 2012, 12:03 AM) not really, calisthenics also have been widely used to gain muscle, the differences between calist and c.weighliftings is that calisthenics uses more calories than c.weighliftings but not much enough that we could say its for burning fats.why?because ur muscle would've tear up first before u gets tired by calist. |

QUOTE(mikehuan @ Aug 2 2012, 09:58 AM) Had a good calisthenics thread going before, but somehow the ts of the thread emoed over something and went missing from the forums. Yah laa.. where the thread? I also haven't update there for so long.. more than 1/2 a year already. Chronic gout, no workout. Consequently his fans and followers disappeared from this section as well. Try searching for it. Its a guy who's doing bw stuff using a power rack. Don't remember his nick though. Well I look at other calisthenics forums too, mostly the threads are not active at all. I guess for calisthenics, there isn't much to talk about, no fancy equipment, no gadget talk, basically not so much stuff to talk about. After a while, conversation runs dry. Convict Conditioning is a good start and then try to find on internet on "bartendaz", calisthenics kingz or youtube calisthenics. Heck, the best now is olympic, just see the Gymnastic part. That is pure calisthenics. I am not any good at calisthenics, but it helps me maintain basic strenght and fitness level. |

This thread looks so dead like the previous 1.. I am actually interested as I only have a yoga mat and only able to use some pull up bars near my house's playground..
Now trying to do a frog stand, looks like I couldn't balance up my body.. |

When it comes to calisthenics, the only way to improve is with frequency and something hoxy always mentioned in the old thread, GTG, or greasing the groove.

Hey guys. It's my first time here. why?because ur muscle would've tear up first before u gets tired by calist. I myself am trying to gain weight. With calisthenics only exercises and lots of eating (healthily) in 6 months I gain 10kg in lean muscle mass. I was a scrawny, skinny, wimpy looking man at 47kg before. I consider myself a beginner still. So far my workouts are hanging leg raises, various forms of raised push-ups, various dips, various pull-ups, chin-ups, squats, jumps, sprints, and hanging upside down crunches. I'm on my way into handstand push-up, one arm push-up, one arm chin-up, pistol squat (or one-legged squat), and the fancy-schmancy planche. Need more mid-body strength and balance for that last one. I can kinda do that thing where you go side-to-side on top of a pull-up. Dunno what that's called though. Also I like to challenge myself every week by doing 100 diamond push-ups in under 5 minutes. A few tips that have helped me a lot: -After you've mastered the proper form and posture, do fast and explosive positives, and slow negatives. Helps to improve the fast twitch muscles, and gain muscle definition. -Never go too much into failure. I have seen my pull-ups being from 15 (which surprised me the first time, didn't know I had it in me to do past 10) down to about 12 reps because of that mistake. After weeks of limiting myself to 10 reps, I got back my form and went forward from there. I experiment by adding 1 or 2 more rep to my usual number of reps after every week. If I can't do a proper one, it doesn't count. -Good form is the key. Saves you from injury and you gain the maximum benefit. -To gain weight, never workout more than one hour a day. Regarding dip, i find it my elbow always go wide rather than backwards..
Is there a way to fix it? I just started it for one of two weeks, it feels really hard that it's hard to check on your own foam. I record it with a camera and review it myself at the moment.. But my goal is to lost weight rather than gaining, lost 4kg since I started.. Still long way to go |

I am assuming you are doing dips with something like parallel bars (or 2 chairs, or whatever you can use to simulate parallel bars). Is there a way to fix it? Have your shoulders back. Try not to shrug your shoulders. What you're doing is probably working your chest a bit more. |

I'm thinking of installing one for the house. Then again, I think it's better for me to master every form first before taking on the ring. The extra imbalance might screw up my form because I don't have enough strength to keep myself from wobbling.

I would be so cool if you can get a chin up bar, gym ring, and a parallel bar in your backyard.. I am actually thinking to to make them in my garden.. but I dont think my parents would be happy about that.. |

My weight been maintaining around there now. I am fortunate, the playground near my house, like 200~300m away. Has a parallel bar (but a bit too wide for my liking), a stroll bar (very good for me to train on before I can do a proper form chin up). There used to be chin up bar too, but they demolished it =(, I use the monkey bar instead, it's around 2m height which is just nice for me. |

I wish I can gain 1kg a week easily. In order for me to do that I eat 3 HUGE meals a day plus snacks in between. I can almost throw up after each meal. Losing weight is so much more fun since you still have the feeling of real hunger. The first time in months since I felt real hunger was on the first day of the fasting month.

Try to split them to more multiple meals (probably 4-6) instead of 3 HUGE meals. That is usually the easy fix for your kind of problem. |

I probably have the discipline now to force myself to eat. |

I've recently been inspired by alot of Callisthenics workouts simply because the premise is simple - body mastery. It's like the story I remember once about this guy who was playing in a snooker championship. While everyone was bringing 1-2 of their custom super grand cues, this one guy pulled a stock one out of the centre and whooped everyone's ass, lol.
For some inspiration, you can head to this page ( http://ashotofadrenaline.net/49-best-calisthenic-masters/ ) as as a starting point for names to search and do the rest on You Tube. I've recently made this my ultimate fitness goal! But right now strength/weight ratio is still not adequate so gotta lose weight first, lol (I'm a big boned 95kgs mofo btw lol) |

QUOTE(nivlanauk @ Oct 21 2013, 02:37 PM) Work the negatives. Get yourself on top and lower yourself down slowly. Negatives are good as well as hangs. They're a good pre-training workout to condition those arms and shoulders before your work on pull ups. Another good workout to do if you cant do pull ups yet are Australian pull ups.if you can't get yourself on top then just hang on the bar for 30 secs or something. at least that's how I started.... from 0 to 10 max in 15 months. oh, and it took me 2 weeks to do 1 proper pull up. So don't ever give up OR never start trying. All About Australian Pull-ups |

Another good workout to do if you cant do pull ups yet are Australian pull ups. I was doing this exercise last year and I can do 2 sets of 5 pull up with narrow grip. I am training to do wide grip pull up.All About Australian Pull-ups I realise this exercise is not about strength alone as it involves the skill to do proper movement. I am happy that this exercise has made my upper back bigger and in a way make my waist look smaller. |

QUOTE(GirlOnaMission @ Feb 28 2019, 09:05 AM) I know bar-risan has a gym in Jitra. But not sure if they're still openYou can just find any park or playground that has decent calisthenics equipment in the evening and I guarantee you'll see calisthenics guys training. Just join them. The calisthenics community is really friendly and open and lastly, the whole purpose of calisthenics is being able to workout anywhere without a gym. |

Im a newbie here, currently starting off with below cycle x4. 5days a week, 2days rest
1. plank for 1min 2. squat for 10-15times 3. normal push up 10 times 4. lunges around 10times for each leg 5. leg raise 10times 6. mountain climber 1min 7. wall sit 1 min Is that okay for a beginner like me, previously only do some push up and squat. |

calisthenics is the shit!
started a year plus ago, only put my mind to achieve PLANCHE somewhere in the future. but the process gave me a pretty nice body! but no, my aim is not the nice body, is the MOVE i want to achieve. This made me stick to workout way more effective than traditional training. TLDR: aim to achieve the dream calisthenic move! it keeps you going despite already having super nice body. |

Tbh I've tried calisthenics and going to the gym
Calisthenics definitely has a higher chance for injury because it's hard to overload safely. True, in the gym you can decapitate yourself when benching, but if you just use dumbbells and keep the weights reasonable you're good. Also much easier to mark increases in strength by just adding 5 pounds to your lifts. Also at the gym you can barbell squat. It trains your lower back in a way that pistol squats just dont I still love using calisthenics movements but if I had to choose I'd pick a gym. |
