Hi, need a recommendation on ultrabooks, which is better? Dell or Asus?
Looking for performance, reliability, portability and worldwide warranty, because might want to further study oversea. I'm not gonna use it for gaming, just words and surfing. Backlit keyboard is a must My budget is below rm4k. Thanks! This post has been edited by vivakarna: Aug 13 2012, 01:17 AM |

hey everybody..few months ago i asked for suggestions and you all said that the dell inspiron 14r would be great.
I bought it from lowyat plaza on 11th of june. Now im thinking of giving my laptop away to my sister, not that it isnt good, but she needs one. so i thought i would probably buy a new one so uh 1.preferred brand: any 2.budget: under or around 2500 RM 3.usage: web browsing, photo/video editing, audio production, little to no gaming 4. screen size: 13-15 5.now, i do require portability. i will be moving around with the laptop. so an ultrabook-ish kinda profile is better for me and also i do need daily battery life for over a minimum of 6 hours of web browsing with wifi. need a good keyboard, and a good /touch/click pad looking for a more rigid kind of a laptop like uh, say carbon fiber or maybe like a metal unibody chassis. sidenote: i like almost everything about my current inspiron 14r. except for the battery life. in terms of build quality, its ok. it produces MASSIVE amount of heat while gaming so i have to keep over a plain surface. touch pad is nice. so is the keyboard. display is ok. have 8 gigs of ram so quite fast but not when booting.takes over a minute for booting had the new vaio t, vaio s, xps 14 and few others in mind, turns out they are either too expensive or doesnt that good of a battery life or not enough horsepower. thanks in advance guys..sorry for the long post! |

QUOTE(vivakarna @ Aug 13 2012, 01:14 AM) Hi, need a recommendation on ultrabooks, which is better? Dell or Asus? Dell would be better imho because of the longer warranty period (assuming you extend to 3 years) Looking for performance, reliability, portability and worldwide warranty, because might want to further study oversea. I'm not gonna use it for gaming, just words and surfing. Backlit keyboard is a must My budget is below rm4k. Thanks! The on-site warranty which is available in most countries would come in handy as well If you really wanna buy the laptop here, then these would be good: 13" Dell [Ultrabook] XPS13, i5-2467M + Intel HD3000 + 128GB SSD@RM3499[1.36kg], 4GB, external optical drive 14" Dell [Ultrabook]XPS 14, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm) HDD + (1600x900)@RM3799[2.1kg], 4GB, 8-cell, backlit, spill resistant keyboard *Dell's warranty coverage is only international if you extend the warranty to 3 years ya *Some coupons you can use: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Otherwise, these: Asus [Ultrabook] UX31A-R4005V, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920 x 1080)@RM3499[1.3kg], 4GB, W7HP, 2 years international warranty You can try to upgrade to 3 years international warranty as well if you want, but it'll be expensive, and its not on-site *And do take note that there were many complaints that the current batch of UX31 suffers from monitor blacklight bleeding, so be sure to check 1st if you are buying this one |
