Second attempt using latest tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-MIPSR2-100-AIO.trx on Asus RT-N16. Still fail. Give up. Will get Mikrotik or TP-Link.

Use OpenWRT, it has better VLAN tagging capability than tomato or DDWRT.

I changed to my old TP-link1043 and connection are more stable comparing Maxis given Thomson router. Wifi definitely stronger too and installed QoS to the 1043 for better n smooth browsing/torrent/streaming activities.

So far still facing session hang and need to manually disconnect/reconnect too but not as often as when using Thomson router. I called Maxis and demand for a technician call back today, they confirmed the Thomson is giving a lots trouble (We all know cool2.gif ) and they are aware of the recent high ping issue and they are working on it, they promised me within a week the ping issue will be resolve. (As they said need to liaise with TM too, I understand caused Maxis backbone and traffic rely on TM's 1 so i agreed for 1 week let them to resolve the issue)

So for ppl using Maxis FTTH, i would suggest you to change the router if you have the capability to flash/setup/KNOW WHAT YOU R DOING (On your own risk), Thomson router only serves as a oversize phone adapter right now doh.gif

TM already block the access... unless you can find a way to go through the block then no way...

Either version is fine but make sure you flash using the factory FW first then once you're on openwrt already then you upgrade with the sysupgrade FW. So you need to download two FW of that version you going to use. I would recommend these two:

openwrt-ar71xx-tl-wr841nd-v5-squashfs-factory.bin  20-Nov-2010 04:30            3932160
openwrt-ar71xx-tl-wr841nd-v5-squashfs-sysupgrad..> 20-Nov-2010 04:30            3547140

Yes, maxis uses VLAN 621. 500 and 600 are UniFi's for data and IPTV respectively.

Hi Sayboon,
I am a bit confuse here. In this article, http://stanleytiang.blogspot.com/2011/08/u...using-your.html, it says change the vlan tagging in the modem but now, it's like changing the vlan tagging in router. Can you help to clarify?

Stanley's guide was for those modem on the Huawei Echolife which allows the user to connect via LAN port to perform the relevant configuration. That would be useful if you want IPTV on UniFi.

However, for maxis, you don't need to configure the modem because everything is controlled via the router. TM will run a script on the modem when you install maxis' FTTH which will open LAN 2 for you to connect the maxis router. The Unifi uses LAN 1.

Asus router support Vlan tagging with official firmware... but it has it's own problem according to the Asus thread.

Is the following true ?
The Huawei HG665a has VLAN tagged for 621 for Internet (Maxis Home Fibre) on Port #2. Thus we need a wireless router which is able to connect via a VLAN, right ?

Get Mikrotik RB751G-2HnD or RB751U-2HnD and thats stock firmware out-of-the-box working with configuration applied. No free lunch.

I haven't try Mikrotik with Maxis but RB751U-2HnD works for my UniFi. icon_idea.gif brows.gif

I guess you need to do some hacking/configuration to get the phone feature work in your Thomson. hmm.gif hmm.gif

These Mikrotik ain't cheap.... Read from klseet's website that TP-Link's W8960N is able to handle UniFi. I wonder if it works for Maxis Home Fibre (50% cheaper than Mikrotik)

For me, i using to Tp-link tl-wr1043 as router with vlan support and also wifi

Thomson for VoIP and connect to tplink router
*
jssc , shall i upgrade my stock firmware for tplwr1043 to dd-wrt first ??

My model was from ALU-> Thomson ->

If i get a TPlink , i believe the configure shall be ALU -> TPLINk -> WIFI/Internet
-> Thomson -> VOIP

if i need to flash dd-wrt , can i follow http://klseet.com/index.php/tl-wr1043nd-ver18 ?

From my previous settings, I'm using openwrt and not ddwrt. Ddwrt is not so suitable for vlan tag
