maybe i should rephrase. u still need to MF, but doesnt have to be that accurate cos of the bigger depth of field. the 10.5mm has MFD of 14cm, at that distance with f/8 there is still 5.45cm of DoF. Added on July 4, 2012, 1:38 pmof cos infinity at 1m...like the pic of those 2 ppl sitting. u tell me the background not in focus? u still need to roughly set the MF distance scale...set around 50cm already if subject is about 1m away like the table. Added on July 4, 2012, 1:39 pmu can post all the pics u want to show how great u are at getting OOF shots, but depth of field calculator doesnt lie This post has been edited by Everdying: Jul 4 2012, 01:39 PM

Getting Started

QUOTE(andrewtyy @ Jul 4 2012, 02:43 AM) I feel like to take macro photography, currently not enough budget for a macro len and check out that wide + close up filter can get in few hundreds. So would like to seek advises from everyone that is it wise to buy close up filter? or just save for a macro len better? If it is worthy, which 1 should I buy? Thanks. Only having 18-105mm and have a stable tripod, few gear only as I'm still a student. Some of your photo are soft or out of focus, just my 2 cents. I'm newbie too. since you are starting off, suggest you get a set of closeup filter first, practise taking photos and see what you are omfortable with, thing about filters is that is quick to put on and take off, and you can use it for a variety of of other lens, there's also extension tubes, but i believe the tubes will allow dust ot get into the camera sensor, so best to avoid unless you take macro in confined dustfree spaces/areas. lastly, you'll need alot of patience with macro photogs, and use alot of manual focusing my hoya close-up filter kit for sale here

Im just saying, to have a mechanism for focus is better (clearly not shown in my examples, because I chose them for a reason, even with AF still can get OOF shots, and its CLEARLY VISABLE) rather than to do Manual focusing chill bro. Im not as technically proficient with calculations and mfd and scales. I flunk maths. This post has been edited by gerald7: Jul 4 2012, 01:50 PM

lol. no la, thats why i rephrase...still need to roughly set the MF distance...and depends on distance to subject also. of cos closer it is, the DoF thinner...but its still 5cm at the minimum...just simply set the MF scale roughly around there enough already... not like some lenses DoF can be like 2cm only

and clearly one needs patience and a good eye to do MF. Which is why I didnt want to try macro photography because I dont have patience and I cant squad down for too long. hehe tummy too big. Im not saying MF is bad or wrong. when playing with the tamron SP90, i MF a lot, didnt like it, but thats the lens I borrowed, thats how I use it. That said, the SP90 hunts a lot. I guess the best advice is to learn the lens that you have and live with it(if cant, then sell it lo). All the reviews would not mean anything unless you take it and use it. Its a photoshop effect. Displacement effect. An abstract digital art form that took the world by storm as the style were greatly mastered and used in the year between 2006 ~ 2010.
