- How much r u willing to spend? ---> close up or extension tubes are the cheapest route.  rclxms.gif
- What kind of pictures r u interested to take? ---> may determine your interested focal length or DOF that u r looking for.
- What lens do u alrdy have?   ---> potentially just add close up lens or extension tubes.
- Ready/Willing to use tripods when doing macro shots? ---> VR may help you if u want to do handheld shots.
- If go by macro lens, willing to use manual or do u want auto focus? ---> I'm using tamron SP AF 90 (no VR lens) and sometimes pair with Raynox & tripod ... I do try them with extension tubes too (macro+ET+raynox). But I don't have nice pics to share.. hehe. I'm noob.

There r many options out there. Macro lens, close up lens like raynox or others, extension tubes or ... a combination of these three for a supper macro works! hehe
I'm also a newbie ... smile.gif laugh.gif

pic spam :

Which one looks nice/appealing to you guys eh?
Was playing around with single light source, editing and tones/colors.
**All shot with D3100 + Tamron SP AF 90

I feel like to take macro photography, currently not enough budget for a macro len and check out that wide + close up filter can get in few hundreds. So would like to seek advises from everyone that is it wise to buy close up filter? or just save for a macro len better? If it is worthy, which 1 should I buy? Thanks. smile.gif
Only having 18-105mm and have a stable tripod, few gear only as I'm still a student.

Some of your photo are soft or out of focus, just my 2 cents. I'm newbie too. blush.gif

Probably because your focused point not catching attention... personally I had to look hard for the focus point.. if just glance through I probably would have the same impression hmm.gif

U can get new one for around 3850..
Bt his SC is low, so, it should be fine..cz when ur fren bought it, it is 4k plus..if it's a camera without problem, then u can consider to buy it from him cz u'll save some $$ which can help u get some lens later.

Actually I miss typo about the date. He bought it on 2011, not 2010. My bad.
And he rarely used too. That's why SC so low.
Maybe I will make a deal with him 2morrow. Thanks for your thought smile.gif

Nope, buy the DX fish eye if you want it as a fish eye lens. FX fish eye is only a fish eye on FX.

DX fish eye is still fish eye on FX, but image is a circle / not a 3:2 ratio.
but it requires a little mod not for the faint of heart...tho quite a few ppl have done it.

no la...still will have huge DoF.
http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html

put subject distance 1m, far limit is infinity tongue.gif
put distance say 50cm, far limit is still infinity.
go closer 30cm, far limit is 1.1m...still a huge 94cm depth of field.
