andi,
forget the 2cr5s, its obsolete now.
you could possibly get a generic En-El1 battery or the original, not usre where to get, I have gone thru 2-3 originals, so now have genric ones. Sometimes mudah.com has some for sale. The charger is mh-50. This cam is now my 4 year old plaything, she shoots pictures, n have fun with it...... icon_rolleyes.gif

which lens is good for taking architecture building? wide lens? 14-24mm?

The lens that has least distortions, nevertheless, you could always PP the pictures to correct distortions

My vote will be a prime lens

either 12-24mm or the 14mm or the 18mm manual-yum yum

if its too wide can always crop, on the 14mm, use your legs to zoom, since you are taking buildings and stuff, they will not run away or the light won't suddenly switch off

with the first 2 , you need to watchout for distortions and probably do PP to correct it, it may sometimes come in handy to have that little fisheye_esque effect, although you could also get this effect done on the D5100.....

i had a D5100 before and with the 12-24mm ( now selling) , you can certainly get some nice if not awesome shots if framed carefully and properly.

I feel like to take macro photography, currently not enough budget for a macro len and check out that wide + close up filter can get in few hundreds. So would like to seek advises from everyone that is it wise to buy close up filter? or just save for a macro len better? If it is worthy, which 1 should I buy? Thanks. smile.gif
Only having 18-105mm and have a stable tripod, few gear only as I'm still a student.

Some of your photo are soft or out of focus, just my 2 cents. I'm newbie too. blush.gif

since you are starting off, suggest you get a set of closeup filter first, practise taking photos and see what you are omfortable with, thing about filters is that is quick to put on and take off, and you can use it for a variety of of other lens,

there's also extension tubes, but i believe the tubes will allow dust ot get into the camera sensor, so best to avoid unless you take macro in confined dustfree spaces/areas.

lastly, you'll need alot of patience with macro photogs, and use alot of manual focusing

same hereĀ  blush.gif i see the price i str8 go buy AA batteries instead... at least still can use in my remote controls tongue.gif
*
i didn't buy new, just wait till those D3s owners selling their cam and with extra batery then get from them lor.....

AA batteries quite heavy, the EN-EL4a feels like having a EN-EL3 inside, but the 8 fps burst sound on a D700 is so sweet.....chechechechechechechecheche........ rclxm9.gif

Given the choice, I would pick the 11-16 and 50 combo.

I tried 300mm f/4... old lens, focusing is darn slow...

I set my D700 to focus priority on AF-C mode... my camera like bursting at 2fps due to the lens not able to keep up with my 8fps.. LOL! 70-200 VR2 keeps up easily, even with TC-20E III also no issue!
*
Celciuz,

this is what i would do to get faster focus
1. set release priority to release+focus, some will be in focus some not, but fps would be faster than focus only
2. AF-C
3. shutter release button set to release only and focus is done with the AF-ON button only
4. 9 focus points

maybe try trap focusing if the AF can't keep up with the action

Mine is AF-D two touch version. Its mostly the very soft focus issue at F2.8. Mine was pretty bad, 180mm onwards cant really use F2.8 because it'll turn out all fuzzy and only usable F5.6 above. After repair everything is okay now ohmy.gif

Just like in the link above unsure.gif

plus changed the name plate on my 80200

That name plate sure looks super nice!..... drool.gif

I can't recall where i read but seems every now and then there are some screws loose inside the lens causing the focusing plane/projection or something like that to be off.

What was the repair cost like?

I think what you are looking for is a split prism focusing screen? You can purchase it online but it would be quite costly!

I use the nikon focus assist on the bottom left for my manual focusing lenses

http://brightscreen.com/styles.html

Here's a link and list of camera's they provide for! Enjoy shooting manual!

i'm getting this soon.....

reminds me of the focusing system on my old F3 rclxms.gif

The reason why I want to get the focusing screen is because I once played with friend's Leica M2, Nikon F3, got hooked instantly. Now whenever I manually focus and shoot on my dslr, nothing seems sharp unless I auto focus. sad.gif
*
now you know how it feels like to manual focus the ultimate way..... rclxms.gif

and thats why i'm so into getting the katzeyes screen... rclxm9.gif
