My brother has 15 Special edition i7 8gb ram, gets hot after a 30 min video and also turn on sometimes can on sometimes cannot! Last time he had to wait more than half an hour. What happened to Dell man? This is only 3 weeks old.
I think something went wrong. Need to ask Dell come and check
wifi cant connect to network (other devices can connect, no prob. distance also not far )
cant detect LAN connection also..
seems like the problem hasn't been solved since years ago... I have this problem for my Dell studio 1557, just get a wireless adapter (~RM30) I think dell got issue with their drivers. I was updating my BIOS and drivers...since then laptop started to go crazy.
Lesson learnt: don't update any of the drivers(if your laptop is performing well with the current drivers)
Yes my brother will not update automatically again but it is annoying when reminders pop up. Still is hot! He is not sure which update or is all 15 Special edition with full hd display are like that.
Hi, anybody has any idea how to install ubuntu 12.10 to dual boot with window7 on 15R SE(with 32gb ssd cache)? I tried installing using wubi but when I choose ubuntu from the dual boot menu it says "root.disk does not exist". But my window7 is working fine.
I think it has something to do with the 32gb cache msata, ive tried disabling the 32gb cache (in intel rapid storage technology) before install but it doesnt seem to work... I have not change the BIOS setting because many people say it causes BSOD if change from RAID to other sata settings
For those early bird who has bought Ins 14R/ 15R SE@2999 without RM400 rebate (200 cash rebate plus around 200 EPP discount). Pls call Dell and nego kau-kau.

hi! would like to ask for opinion, i got my brand new Dell Inspiron 15R two weeks ago, but discovered that the spacebar does not work from 1 angle. Emailed Dell and they are going to send an engineer to replace keyboard. My question is: is it better to request for a new laptop replacement? or just let them replace the keyboard part? will replacing the keyboard damage the laptop somewhat?
Won't hurt your notebook, unless the technician is bad in his job.
Unless you have a fetish on new things, it's fine to have just your keyboard changed
lol of course it's better to have new things last week after i've installed everything i certainly didn't want it replaced, but a few days ago a BSOD happened after i (think) i interrupted a windows update process (took too long to shut down). restored and reinstalled the windows. now i feel like a new laptop is not a bad idea...
Nvidia Optimus is a technology (program) allowing you to switch in between your Nvidia card and the Intel HD3000/4000 of the CPU. Optimus will automatically switch to the Nvidia card when you are playing games for better performance; and will automatically switch to the integrated GPU when you are trying to save battery
From what I heard the Nvidia card still consume power (albeit lesser) while not in use. For me, I will go for integrated GPU as I would not play game on my laptop thus I want maximum heat reduction and power saving.

uh, hi again all! regarding my Dell Inspiron 15R, anybody here with the same model? the engineer came to replace the keyboard, but still got exactly the same issue. the engineer said is not sure is it the design of the keyboard or what, they will replace with another keyboard next week, and take a motherboard along just in case.
i don't think is design, cos every Dell/other laptops i used before have no such problem. i can't possibly change the way i type bcos of 1 spacebar??
anybody else's inspiron 15R's spacebar cannot work from the bottom, like this? (sorry too dark, but u see got 1 angle not working)

you mean the right angle?
i suggest get a total replacement with a new unit and see how. if it really happens again, it could be the design problem. even my elitebook 6930p doesnt register the space bar very well, especially at the side of the space bar.

no no, left, right and top(back of bar) are fine, it only cannot work from bottom(front of bar). i usually push the bar forward with my thumb, so if i type a sentence, most of my words become unspaced (though not all).
can i request for a replacement unit? the engineer said might change motherboard, i guess replacing the whole unit will be better? it's only 2 weeks old anyway... btw, thx for your answer...

yes. i personally dont trust technicians in fixing the compartments, so get a total replacement will be better.

i emailed them this morning, they just replied with 'sorry, a replacement unit is unavailable'. they said must be problem with keyboard mechanism. well.... i just hope the third keyboard they replace will work *rolleyes* this is very time-wasting... ugh

hmm, just pray and hope the third keyboard replacement goes well.
yep, hope so... thx anyway... if it doesnt go well i'll be complaining here again
If after a few service on the keyboard and the problem persist, insist on getting the whole laptop replaced. Call, don't email, apply pressure If Dell keep saying cannot replace whole laptop (which is unlikely, unless Dell is phasing out the model), just say you want a refund because the laptop never work as intended

hi thanks for the advice! yesterday the second engineer came, and wow... exactly the same problem again!! i can't believe it! how can there be so many defective keyboards??!! and all not working at the exact same spot also!! this is ridiculous!! and the engineer said they will replace with a new keyboard... again???!! wow then every week i wait for them to replace keyboards??!! why didn't they check what's wrong with the first keyboard they took back?? this is just poor technical support, cannot find out the root of the problem...
ugh so angry... i emailed them, threaten to ask for refund... so far no reply yet... you are right, guess i should call them...
