My brother has 15 Special edition i7 8gb ram,  gets  hot after a 30 min video and also turn on sometimes can on  sometimes cannot!   Last time he had to wait more than half an hour.  What happened to Dell man?  This is only 3 weeks old.    rclxub.gif

May I ask where your brother use it? Don't block any of the inlet / outlet air vents. The i7 processor generate lots of heat.
If you feel there is problem with hardware, give Dell a call, describe your problem, they will guide you to do online diagnosis. If all else fail, they will send technician to your house to look at it.

I'm currently using my Inspiron 14r special edition, i7.

I have a question, why is the color different compared to my previous laptop, i'm having difficulties when the graphic I printed out is like 30% different from what I did.

Any idea on this?

You need to calibrate the screen first.
*
lee_what sifu is right.
If you don't have any special tools or software to help, win7/8 has a inbuilt calibration tool to do visual calibration (not the most accurate).
http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows...te-your-display

However, most laptop screen does not have the wide gamut to display all colour accurately (you need some high-end screen in high end laptop. Alternatively, connect your laptop to a good external screen with IPS panel).

yep, hope so... thx anyway... smile.gif if it doesnt go well i'll be complaining here again tongue.gif

If after a few service on the keyboard and the problem persist, insist on getting the whole laptop replaced. Call, don't email, apply pressure tongue.gif
If Dell keep saying cannot replace whole laptop (which is unlikely, unless Dell is phasing out the model), just say you want a refund because the laptop never work as intended laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Just look at the number of spec variation Dell has for each consumer laptop models, and compare with other brands smile.gif

Even for laptop models with Nvidia / AMD GPU, if you are not running software that need it, the discrete GPU will not be used. Owner just pay for something that you are not using laugh.gif

If you want laptop to run cool and energy efficient, you should pay more attention on the HDD rather than GPU. Take out the HDD, replace it with SSD. Laptop become lighter, run cooler, quieter, more responsive, much much more energy efficient (at least 45min more battery performance) ....

QUOTE(paddyps @ Mar 27 2013, 02:33 PM)
third engineer came just now, with another keyboard, and with the exact same problem!! the engineer called the Dell support to tell them about the problem, and Dell support said "I don't see the issue here, do you know how to type?" wow apparently my problem is i don't know how to type even though i've never had any issue with every single laptop i've ever used before. he refused my request for a replacement, saying that i'll have the same issue if they send a new one. what??? then give me a new one before you make an assumption!! geez... i told him i went to lowyat last week to try their display unit of the exact same model, there was no such problem with that unit at all. and he had the nerve to suggest that 'i should press the spacebar in the middle only'. and they said Dell customer service is the best???? i asked for a refund and he said they'll charge some RM80 for refund??? what??? you gave me a defective unit and you want to charge me for refund??? and the laptop is not even 1 month old!!

the engineer took over and suggested to change the motherboard and maybe palmrest? i'll just have to wait until then. but really, Dell customer service is the worst ever. they can't even find out what's the problem and belittle their customers so they can get away with their defective products.

Call Dell, DEMAND a new laptop. Tell them changing keyboard 3 times and still could not eradicate / identity the source of problem is not acceptable. All the engineers that serviced you can confirm your complaint is valid.
Just demand it cold and collected.
If you don't like to talk to that particular Dell support, demand to talk to someone else smile.gif

Thanks for the reply.

Are they come with dedicated GPU? I would prefer one without it as I like my laptop run cooler and power effecient.

did exactly that, except the cold and collected part i guess... anyway the guy kept saying "i don't see any issue" "engineers said there's no problem" (wow, just lied like that, if their engineers said there's no problem they won't be sending so many keyboards to me) "i'm sorry we cannot give you a replacement unit" "you will be charge RM80 for a refund" since when does a refund get charged, anyway??? and this is a new laptop somemore??

at least the engineer (somewhat) helped me by asking the guy to change motherboard or some (palm?) rest... they may come again tomorrow, so we'll see...

i see the con of on-site service like Dell's now, with issue like mine, if you go to a shop, you can probably change various spare parts until the problem is fixed. with Dell's, you have to wait for each spare part to arrive, make appointment to meet them each time, wasting a lot of time and dragging out the problem...

As I said, if you feel the person on the other side of the line (Dell Support) is not "happening", demand to talk to another person.

Have you actually been to SC of other brands before? laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif I count lucky star for Dell Malaysia warranty support for consumer laptops. You have technician coming to you to fix thing for you, and yet you think it is better to send laptop to SC? And you seriously think technician in SC (for other brands) will fix it on the spot for you while you wait? smile.gif

Anyway, if the technician come this time and the issue is still not resolved, call Dell Support, and DEMAND a replacement of new laptop. Refer to 1st paragraph smile.gif

W8 at RM100? Is this good or bad? Bear in mind that I will need to buy W7 and install it on the notebook. I just hate W8 GUI.

compare with this spec. This give you Linux (free) but with medium low end Nvidia GPU (which cost ~ RM100), and is RSP RM1499.
The 1st link come with W8, no discrete GPU, RSP RM1399 (other specs are the same).
W8 retail cost ~ RM300.

Now you tell me which one is a better deal? laugh.gif

BTW, could I easily install W7 myself (there goes the W8 down the drain)?
Will there be any issue with driver availability as well as the UEFI sh*t that people talked about?
*
Yes, you could install W7 yourself.
You can find all the necessary W7 drivers on Dell website.
Aiyo, UEFI is a good thing smile.gif People has been complaining about the limitation of BIOS for a long time, and UEFI address lots of the issues.
What MS do with W8 secure boot is another matter laugh.gif
Normally if you go with 64bit W7, it will work with UEFI.
