Looking back, this is my thoughts of our season.
The price of a being a modern Corporation football club. ie an american sports franchise. (we don't like to be seen as one, or politically correct to view us as one but it's how american view modern sports as a form of business enterprise. Expectations. Fans, their partners that pour huge monies in sponsorship, the owners. While I think our season, went slightly below of the standards we set ourselves, getting into 2 finals, winning one, actually shows there at least some unity, some believe in the squad. Sure, the poor league standing somewhat nullifies whatever 'progress' that the team had shown. While we do have questionable buys, but it's kinda expected not everyone fit into a round hole on day one. As much as he managed to secure the targeted players and them not living up to their valuation. That together with the weight of the hefty sum ultimately wielded the axe on our DOF. (my guess FSG thinks commoli didn't offer a alternative to KD in signings if they/he feels the valuation does not match the fee). What i think ultimately had our king unceremoniously dumped out was the suarezgate affair plus the sum of a few. Not about him being found guilty or otherwise, but the manner the episode that became a PR disaster. Everyone had high regard for Dalglish in Liverpool, no one could pull him aside to offer a alternative view point or a PR proper in handling the case. Maybe Dalglish was stubborn, maybe he was not. But my guess the episode turned out a little more ugly then the usual mind games managers throws at each other. I think Liverpool partners (sponsors) may have offered their piece of mind. They (sponsors) might not thrown an ultimatum but being owners who are continually looking to inject fresh capital injection via commercialisation of our marketting appeal, they prefer not to allow the sponsors having excuses or going one up in negotiations. I don't think the failure or the loss of no less 4 place alone costed KD position. Thats why we are restructuring the roles in Liverpoolfc having read Ian arye comments. We didnt play disastrously like how Roy sets us up, but the weight of losing key players (thru injuries and suspension and the other lengthy suspension of a key personnel that could be avoidable one or minimised) ultimately drag any momentum or rthym we had to assault the upper standings in the league. Expanding my view (was rushing earlier in the morning, now as i write from the hospital premise To be fair, I support suarez, more so then the 2 face French *****, any time. the cost of 4th no less doesn't surmountable to a axe, think rationally, if every other top manager fails one every season for the next 5 years, it must mean we have another 5 new manager every time? No right? It doesn't take any fan to realise this and tell FSG how to run a club. It's pretty much the sum of all the above that wielded the chop. I do think if we removed the episode on suarez (if it didn't happen at all) Dalglish would still be on his 2nd year into his contract. This post has been edited by koolspyda: May 21 2012, 12:38 PM |

perhaps you fail to mention the persistent use of underachieving and off form players, and to give an impression that our squad is 15-16 players thin...

Remember how Drogba cried like a little girl with some other Chelsea players when Mourinho left? Well that wasn't the case for Rafa. Rafa was more of a respected figure in the dressing room I guess.
Though he proved what he is capable of, I feel we should go for a younger and hungrier one in AVB who surely is desperate to prove himself just like how LFC are trying to prove ourselves again as one of Europe's best. Torres wanted to move to Chelsea to win trophies didn't he? He should stop whining then. He would have played games and been a more central figure at Liverpool. Play football on the pitch vs Winning trophies from the bench, he made his choice, no one else to blame but himself for his poor form. This post has been edited by Cloud0890: May 21 2012, 10:44 AM |

I am just worried AVB has his own agenda > the club, more like proving himself to Chelsea than doing it for the club, then it does no good to the club.Though he proved what he is capable of, I feel we should go for a younger and hungrier one in AVB who surely is desperate to prove himself just like how LFC are trying to prove ourselves again as one of Europe's best. Unlike KK, he does everything for the club and I think Rafa will do the same that's why he has been waiting for opportunity to come back for unfinished business. He could have joined other club. |

QUOTE(twtang @ May 21 2012, 10:43 AM) I am just worried AVB has his own agenda > the club, more like proving himself to Chelsea than doing it for the club, then it does no good to the club. FSG are trying to implement a structure that is similar to those in Spain. Managers are only head coaches who concentrate on matchdays, trainings, tactics. Whilst there is a Director of Football to make signings and etc. Managers like Rafa and Mourinho will never want to work under this system and Mourinho was promised by the president that he will have full control over matters before he took the job hence Jorge Valdano the general manager was dismissed after his rumoured internal feud with Mourinho.Unlike KK, he does everything for the club and I think Rafa will do the same that's why he has been waiting for opportunity to come back for unfinished business. QUOTE(imin @ May 21 2012, 12:20 PM) Thats the thing....ull nvr know till its too late. U cant really judge to bring someone in just because of their success with other team on a different league. Coz winning has alot of factors involved. Its not just the manager. |

I was reading rafa's website and i saw something particularly interesting.
12/05/12 at 11:59:27 #18 Ajay Hi rafe I have a question which is off the topic ... I became the fan of liverpool ever since i witnessed a special brand of football livepool played under you especially after the arrival of fernando torres.... you changed the system from 442 >451 then liverpool had most of possession /1 touch movements/ played the ball with speed everything was perfect on the way suddenly a change on your mind ...... what's made you more special for barry than alonso........? Response: Hello, we were playing 1-4-2-3-1 it depends of the movements of the wingers. Barry is a good international english player, good professional and can play in three positions. Good for the team and good for the future and good for the club. Alonso submit a transfer request. Thanks. |

The response is quite brief but what I can make from it is that Rafa wanted to add Barry and at the same time wanted to keep Alonso. Maybe Alonso felt that he won't be first choice with the arrival of Barry hence requested for transfer.12/05/12 at 11:59:27 #18 Ajay Hi rafe I have a question which is off the topic ... QUOTE(Rotuham @ May 21 2012, 12:41 PM) I was reading rafa's website and i saw something particularly interesting. rafa already explain why he want to sign barry up. it because he could play in different positions. not just to take alonso places. i guess alonso's relationship with rafa already not very good after the stuff happened during the birth of alonso's son. then it become worst when rafa paraded alonso to all europe clubs (ie: juve) to get the funds for barry. remember, alonso's form has not been very good for more than a season before rafa try to sell him up. miraculously, alonso form come back and he become midfield's god after that. to make things worst, madrid comes calling and there's no way alonso gonna pass the chances up. barry put salt in rafa's wound by joining city after he gave his word to join us. this wouldnt happen if the 2 yanks had given rafa the money to sign barry up.12/05/12 at 11:59:27 #18 Ajay Hi rafe I have a question which is off the topic ... I read further comments and i saw this. This doesn't help change my mind that he isn't the right person.
Mark anfield Rafa, what do you think is the more effective style? A team with superior defence but inferior attack or a team with superior attack and inferior defence? I.e chelsea v barca/bayern. Response: Hello Mark, the balance is the key, but better defences win more leagues. Thanks. I don't like his slant towards defending.Real madrid conceded more than barca this season yet they won the league. His tactics suit italy the best not the premiership. |

His tactics suit italy the best not the premiership. to me, the original question also not valid and a bit childish.....where got good modern teams having superior attack/inferior defense vice versa.....? the last i can think of are the Brazilians of 1982...reckless defending... Barca--everybody raves about their midfield and attackers..but see how they defend (chasing and pressuring every passes made by opponents)? and how much they rely on puyol and pique? Man UTd: the outcome of their season is always associated with the form of their defenders........Vidic, Rio, Silvestre, etc..one is injured, Utd will always struggle... Arsenal- after Adams, Dixon, Campbell, etc left....they've won nothing.. IF anything, i think to do well/survive, its important to get the defense right FIRSt..and build from there....meaning once you have a solid keeper and back four...its much easier to build from there...rather than the other way round.... but to be successful, its about balanced...that is why when Hyypia/Carragher/Fabio/Arbeloa clicked together...it was always easy for Alonso, Gerrard to think about releasing the killer passes to Torres...
